Today, I want to talk about what’s different between keto and intermittent fasting as far as their benefits.

Ketogenic diet health benefits: • When you drop your carbs, you produce ketones from fat • Keto starves cancer cells of glucose • The ketogenic diet provides nutrients

Intermittent fasting health benefits: • You’re producing more ketones than if you were just doing the ketogenic diet • Intermittent fasting can starve cancer cells of glutamine • You’re getting more autophagy with intermittent fasting • You activate longevity genes • You drop inflammation • You get a massive spike in growth hormone • You build up your antioxidant reserve

Your brain prefers ketones. • It’s the level of ketones in the blood that determines what the brain is going to use as fuel • If you have low glucose in the blood, you will have high ketones. If you have high blood sugar, you will have low ketones in the blood.

If you have brain damage and you’re doing the ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting, but it feels like it’s taking a while to adapt, I would highly recommend taking MCT oil. I would also recommend exogenous ketones for this situation.

The Benefits of Manganese Oct 26, 2019

Today, I want to talk to you about manganese. Manganese is very different from magnesium. We're going to talk about what manganese is and what might happen if you have a manganese deficiency.

What is manganese? - A trace mineral and a coenzyme.

If you are deficient in manganese, you may have a problem with bone and connective tissue which equal joints. Let's say your mother was deficient in manganese when she was carrying you. You could end up with manganese deficiency symptoms like:

    • Problems with connective tissue (issues like flat feet) • Skeletal Deformations • Muscle Spasms • Inflammation (manganese is a part of a defense mechanism to protect you against free radicals) • Build up of ammonia

    Foods high in manganese?

    • Pecans • Clove • Grains - phytates (phytates inhibit manganese, also grains are not keto-friendly) • Tea - tannins (tannins block manganese) • Spinach - oxalates (oxalates bind with manganese) • Pumpkin seeds • Kale • Squash • Sea kelp

Don't consume large amounts of trace minerals like manganese for a long period of time. Only take trace minerals in small amounts in a blend of other trace minerals for a short period of time.

Have you ever wondered, “why am I craving carbs?” Well, in this video, I’m going to give you the three reasons why, as well as how to stop craving carbs on keto.

3 reasons why you're craving carbs on keto:

    1. Insulin resistance Consuming a high carb diet raises insulin and keeps your blood sugars low, so you keep wanting carbs. In this situation, you will eventually develop insulin resistance. Your cells will be hungry and craving carbs all day long. The ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting will help with this issue.

    2. Low Fats Fats are necessary to allow you to be satisfied, especially when you're doing intermittent fasting.

    3. Low micronutrients Micronutrients are incredibly important, especially when it comes to getting rid of cravings and hunger. If you consume all of the nutrients that your body requires each day, you will be satisfied and healthy.

If you’re consuming the ketogenic diet without nutrients, your diet may be keto-friendly, but you may still feel hungry. The foods that you see over and over on the list below are nutrient-dense and will satisfy your nutrient deficiencies.

As you fix insulin resistance, you have plenty of healthy fats, and you have plenty of micronutrients—you should get rid of carb cravings.

The REAL Reason Why Autophagy Exists Oct 25, 2019

In this podcast, I want to cover autophagy and the real reason why autophagy exists.

What is autophagy? - Autophagy is a condition where your body takes damaged proteins and recycles them. The recycling process provides amino acids for fuel, and to be used as raw material to build tissue. Autophagy was created to cope with starvation. During starvation or fasting, autophagy acts as a survival mechanism.

Damaged proteins are very toxic to the body. It’s very beneficial to get these damaged proteins out of the body. Autophagy also eliminated microbes and viruses.

Types of damaged proteins: • Misfolded proteins • Oxidized proteins • Mutated proteins • Glycated proteins

Autophagy is not a mechanism that switches on and off. Autophagy is always going on unless you have an issue like high blood sugar or an inflammatory condition.

You probably have an effective autophagy system if you’re doing: 1. Keto 2. Exercise (as you exercise your efficiency with autophagy also improves) 3. Fasting (18 hours or longer is great for autophagy)

Autophagy benefits: • Anti-aging and enhancing benefits • It gets rid of things that are very unhealthy for your body

How Many Calories on Keto? The Simple Formula Oct 25, 2019

Today we’re going to talk about keto and calories. Do you count calories on keto? How many calories on keto should you do?

People are carrying around a lot more calories of fat than they may realize. Many people think they will lose weight just by cutting their calories. But, in reality, this doesn’t work.

Counting calories doesn’t really work because of these variables: • Age • Slow Thyroid • Insulin Resistance • Exercise • Stress • Sleep • Dietary Fat vs. Body Fat Burning • Body Problem (autoimmune problem, inflammatory condition, etc.) • How Calories Influence Hormones • How Many Times You’ve Dieted In The Past • Speed of metabolism

Instead of trying calorie counting, discover how many calories you need and how many times you should eat.

When you consume a meal, you should be satisfied and full without being uncomfortable. You don’t need to count calories on keto. You just need to aim for being satisfied.

Action Steps: • Start with healthy keto (shift to fat-burning)

Then, start working your way down this list if you need to as your body adapts. 1. Remove snacks 2. Go down to two meals If that doesn’t work, go to the next level: 3. Go down to one meal (OMAD) If that doesn’t work, go to the next level: 4. Go down to one meal every other day

Today, I want to answer a question someone recently asked, “how long do I have to do keto and intermittent fasting?”

The ketogenic diet is a lifelong commitment. Healthy keto with intermittent fasting will work while you do it, but the benefits will stop if you stop. You might see some awesome keto diet results, or intermittent fasting results and think it’s ok to stop. But, the long term effects of keto are so beneficial, you really don’t want to stop.

The purpose of doing the ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting is for so much more than just weight loss. Doing keto long term is a way of eating to minimize health problems.

You will eventually build up your health reserve, and you will be able to go off of the program here and there. But, there are no phases of the ketogenic diet. After you reach your keto weight loss goal, instead of adding in carbs, you can add in more calories and more fat.

There are multiple incredible benefits of healthy keto, ketosis, and intermittent fasting. Ketones are a more efficient fuel that your brain and heart prefer. But, one of the biggest problems out there right now is high insulin. Healthy keto with intermittent fasting will help you reduce your insulin, which will benefit your:

    • Heart • Liver • Brain • Hormones • Immune System • Nerves • Kidneys • Eyes

In this podcast, I want to cover goitrogens and thyroid function. We’re going to talk about what goitrogenic foods are and if you should be concerned about them.

What are goitrogenic foods? - It is a food that can cause a goiter (an enlarged thyroid).

The thyroid is in the base of the neck, and it can swell up if it doesn’t have iodine. If someone consumes food that blocks iodine, it can ultimately:

    1. Cause more thyroid hormone to be released

    2. Cause the thyroid to get bigger

Reasons Why B12 is NOT Being Absorbed: http://bit.ly/2W93Ol3, http://bit.ly/2MCKVE5

Today, I want to do a quick video to answer a question someone had about the ketogenic diet and depression. This person had started the ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting and was feeling depressed. Why would this happen?

What causes depression on keto? - It may be because of a nutritional deficiency.

Healthy keto and intermittent fasting are supposed to make your mood go up. If you’re having depression while on keto, or depression while doing intermittent fasting, you may have nutritional deficiencies. If you have any type of subclinical nutrition deficiency, it will be magnified when you do intermittent fasting, and sometimes when you do keto as well.

Nutrition deficiencies that can cause depression while on keto: 1. Low zinc 2. Low vitamin D 3. Low B12

How to Reverse Insulin Resistance Oct 23, 2019

In this podcast, I want to talk about a question I received from someone who was wondering how to reverse insulin resistance.

What is insulin resistance? - It’s a condition where the cells are no longer absorbing insulin. Without insulin, the cells can’t get fuel, so they’re starving. This makes you crave carbohydrates. A signal is then sent to the pancreas telling it to make more insulin. The average person with Insulin resistance has 5-7 times more insulin than normal.

High levels of insulin create: • Starved cells • High blood sugar • Damage in the body

What causes insulin resistance? - Overexposure to insulin (chronic carbs and frequent eating)

How do we fix this problem? - The prolonged absence of insulin.

If you don’t fix insulin resistance: • You’re not going to get weight loss • You’re going to be hungry all of the time

In my opinion, it takes about 3-8+ months to reverse insulin resistance. My guess is that healthy keto with intermittent fasting is responsible for 90%+ of improvements. Healthy keto provides the key nutrients you need to help speed up the process.

    90 Percent of Hypothyroidism is Hashimoto’s Oct 22, 2019

The great majority (90-95%) of hypothyroid cases are Hashimoto’s. Let’s talk about what Hashimoto’s is and why this is the case.

Hashimoto’s is an autoimmune condition. This means that there are cells that are attacking the thyroid, which keeps the thyroid inflamed & is more of an immune problem than a thyroid problem.

    A few Hashimoto's symptoms are: • Stress • Anxiety • Depression

You can pretty much have any thyroid symptom, but when you have Hashimoto’s, you can also have symptoms of hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid).

What causes this? • A high percentage of people with Hashimoto’s developed it 3-8 months postpartum. • There are 5-8 times more women that have this condition than men.

This tells us there is a problem with estrogen. Estrogen is a very powerful antioxidant. Many times, women have lower amounts of estrogen postpartum. This can set them up for getting this autoimmune condition.

A few more things that could contribute to this problem are:

    • Gluten • A zinc deficiency • Low vitamin D

    Action Steps:

    • Take around 300mg of selenium per day • Take iodine only if you’re deficient • Start healthy keto and intermittent fasting
