Samuel T. Herring (Future Islands) • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #550 Jan 16, 2024

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by Future Islands lead vocalist, writer, actor and rapper SAMUEL T. HERRING!

What an episode... Samuel was generous enough with his time to give us a full 90mins-ish of pure goodness which will entirely appeal to already-down Future Islands appreciators, but will likely turn a few ears towards their music if not already familiar. Saumel's presence is warm, fun and witty and it's a brilliantly entertaining ride through thoughts about performance, influence, emotion. big life moments, rap music (he's a proper head, have no doubt), ambition, 'that' performance, hurry up and wait, acting, zombie state while on tour, and whole bunch more. Check all links, enjoy all output and get some Samuel into your life.

Joel Edegerton • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #549 Jan 09, 2024

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by film-maker and actor JOEL EDGERTON!

A fabulous episode with Pip and Joel, as we hear the two of them get down deep into the whole mess of life, film, and everything else. As you will expect it's a wide ranging and very honest one, delving into the aspects of pandemic life as an actor and - well - human being, as well as parenthood, empathy, understanding, emotion (including when acting and non-acting seep into one another), roles, Barrys Jenkins and Keoghan, projects, strategies, the world as a whole, and what's on the horizon. As you will know by now, when actors guest on the podcast, you won't hear a sales pitch about a particular project - this is a full on awesome conversation, which anyone with a beating heart will get a huge amount from, Enjoy!

Films Of The Year 2023 • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #548 Jan 02, 2024

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

The yearly tradition boldly continues as Pip celebrates a year of incredible cinema with his FILMS OF THE YEAR 2023!

One of those traditions that comes around every 12 months and makes you realise how much you missed it and how much you wanted to hear it again... A glorious and positive indulgence in a year of awesome movies from all over the world, and all across the spectrum or galaxy of the human soul. As always with this list, just a gentle reminder that if you don't agree, that is all good. But it is not a wrong or faulty list - it's just someone else's. You totally don't need this explained to you but you might be surprised at how people still think Pip's opinions are declarative statements and not opinions. In fact - put simply, to echo the Speech Development code - "We may not be for you, and that's fine". But ya know, with opinions about films. ANYWAY - goddamn, just enjoy the podcast and see how the thoughts of Yung Pip chime in with your own. And enjoy some dope recommendations in the bargain!

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

Gather round, DPP fam... Here we go - it is indeed that time of year once again... DRUNKAST TIME! PART 5!

A welcome return of the Drunkcast gang as we hear from the original formation over five delirious episodes. If this is your first time coming in contact with the Distraction Pieces Podcast, a friendly suggestion would be to perhaps get better acquainted with the podast in regular guest-based form. This isn't anything on the Grade A cancellable list, nothing like that - but it IS three longterm pals getting together, recording and drinking and removing several layers of usual podcast filters for the benefit of a knowing and trusting audience. So bear that in mind. But for those who know - I needn't explain more now need I. You know what it is.

Things get messier as the episodes progress, but if you're an OG DPP / Hardcore Listing head, you'll enjoy the ride for sure. ENJOY THE MERRIMENT AND APPROACH WITH MAYBE JUST A SPRINKLE OF CAUTION!

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

A glorious episode and a long time in the making - this week Pip is joined by acting hero THOMAS TURGOOSE!

A long one in the making not only because this is the longest This Is England reformation in history, but because literally they have been trying to arrange this one for years. And s you will have surely guessed, it delivers on all counts. Thomas is great company, and as a podcast host himself you know for in for some good business. They get to everything including said podcast, the This Is England squad, working with Shane Meadows, synchronicities and serendipties, adulting, interests in film and cinema, football and the wide world contained within, and his general career arc. As with all episodes like this, the godfather Stephen Graham is a welcome overseeing presence!
