Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by comic, actor and writer MICHELLE DE SWARTE!

An awesome piece of pure Distraction Pieces goodness for you this week with the wonderful Michelle, who drops in for a perfect debut appearance on the podcast! Michelle catches us up on a ton of things past and present, including all of the hard edges along with the gooey centres, such as class and money, unknowingly homeless, modeling, luck vs hustle, production of a show and the team behind it, representing South London and elevating it to go against the cliche, comedy, and loads more. A lot to cram into around an hour but that's a lovely problem to have. You'll love this one - enjoy Michelle!

We Need You! (w/ James Houston aka 1030) • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #570 May 28, 2024

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by creative / creator and Twitch legend JAMES HOUSTON aka 1030 for a very special episode...

Those more up on the Twitch universe will know 1030 for sure as the hands-on tech creator who is very much a part of the greater community of good people over there. He met Pip via the platform, and over the years has secured a beautiful bond which - to cut to the chase - has resulted in the two of them crafting a blueprint for a film! This film, 'Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty (A Long Short Film)' is now available to support on Kickstarter, with all information in the link and a bunch in the podcast itself. On the podcast, you'll hear more about the finer details of how the financial process will work, along with what the plan is for the film and all of that good stuff. There's so much happening on this one, primarly geared around the film but also about the working history of James / 1030, media, the film world and so much more, as well as a true genuine bonus treat at the end which is unlike nothing else you've ever heard. Certainly within the realms of Distraction Pieces anyway. Support the Kickstarter and get involved if it's within your means, and otherwise shout far and wide about this one! It'll be fabulous.

Bec Hill • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #569 May 21, 2024

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by host, comic, writer and podcaster BEC HILL!

One of those long time coming podcasts that even Pip thought had taken place in our 500+ episode history... It's so very welcome though and a very important piece filled in the puzzle, as Bec is a true delight and wonderful presence right here in the DPP archive. Things kick off with candy eating techniques (never not niche over here), and include Fringe experiences / expectations / realities, her Makeaway Takeaway show on CITV and how that started and concluded, wrestling practice, a multitude of show pitches, and the podcasting life. All great stuff and super fun as you can imagine. ENJOY!

Picklebee aka Beth Douglas • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #568 May 14, 2024

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by activist, Twitch pro and all round treasure from Scotland PICKLEBEE aka BETH DOUGLAS!

You may have seen the word Twitch just there and perhaps figured that this would be a podcast all about Twitch. Dear listener this is indeed not the case, and to ignore on that basis is to ignore an extremely fascinating, deep and also FUN chat with the wonderful Picklebee! It's a pretty far and wide ranging one, which goes into Beth's own history and experience of being a trans person in this wild world, activism and politics - Scottish and otherwise, JK Rowling's eerily unquenchable thirst for losing out loud, the mostly safe-space of Twitch and harbouring a community on there, social media and also the origins of the name Picklebee which I'm sure you're curious about... Folks, if you are unfamiliar with Picklebee, this is literally your invitation to make a new friend, hand delivered to your door. Open and enjoy!

John Bradley • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #567 May 07, 2024

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by multi-appearance trophy holder but most importantly, wide ranging awesome actor, JOHN BRADLEY!

The acting part is of course more important than the amount of appearances but it's nice to know that John has a home at Distraction Pieces. With the massive Netflix show 'Three Body Problem' making all kinds of waves of late, it's good to catch him on yet another ascent into the stratosphere but also really cool to hear how things have been going since the last time. And indeed, since the beginning of the acting career. A joy as always, as John's friendly voice takes you through all sorts of elements encountered in the world of cinema and television, including his range of roles, exposure to new waves of audiences, Game Of Thrones, pretending, growing through experience, and all sorts more. A delight - enjoy!

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by comic, host, podcaster and writer SUZI RUFFELL!

Those of you thinking "Wait, has Suzi not been on yet?" would be forgiven in an instant, as yes indeed you would have thought a Suzi appearance would have been completed by now. But no! Through sheer schedule alignment and dates and such like, it's only been possible at this point so without focusing on the past too much, let's jump into the now and enjoy Suzi in the present! It's a great episode as you would expect, which handles a huge amount including social media, process, gathering material, Bake Off, womens football, podcasting and so much more. A very welcome appearance and the first of many, we hope! Enjoy Suzi!

Ed Skrein • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #565 Apr 23, 2024

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined for a second time by the zen master actor ED SKREIN!

Dedicated listeners will remember the refrain of Ed's original appearance on here - "Why the fuck not?" - a mantra that will hopefully have provided a nice ass-kicking to get things done, or motivation to make some things happen. Well here is the very cool, calm and collected Ed back again to chat about so much but somewhat centrally revolving around the actorial sciences. They have a bunch of shared ground, and it's really nice to hear what Ed's been up to since that initial appearance, and what life has looked like since the beginning of the journey back in 2010 or so. A huge amount of ground that cannot be synopsised here so just jump in and trust that you'll enjoy the ride. And peep the first appearance if you missed it too!

Sofie Hagen • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #564 Apr 16, 2024

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by return awesome guest, comic, podcaster and author SOFIE HAGEN!

A fantastic meeting of minds for second time round, as Pip catches up with Sofie to talk about all things that have happened since the first go around! Although it's very fair to say that a good amount of chat is devoted to their new book 'Will I Ever Have Sex Again?', which is some essential reading for a huge amount of people. More people than Sofie initially thought, in fact. So expect some goodness including social expectations, writing a book on a subject that you don't see books about, messy relationships, gender and sexuality and 'the club'. You'll get it. Enjoy!

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by YOU! The listeners... It's an April 2024 edition of ASK PIP!

I wouldn't dare blow the spot on what you're about to hear BUT - just so you're aware of what zones might get a look-in, you can expect to hear topics including: actor pay and how much some get, teacakes vs hot cross buns, casting historically, Shogun, The Scroobius and how 2024 could see the Summer Of Scroobius (for quick reference for the drinkers among you, it's Pepsi Max mixed with Slingsbury Gin), hot sandwiches, and MCCS Superspies. It's like a solo sober Drunkcast. ENJOY!

B. Dolan • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #562 Apr 02, 2024

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by friend and comrade in music and life, B. DOLAN!

You will have surely heard if not every appearance from B on here, then at least the previous one which went into what life has looked like for him since the pandemic. In a nutshell, it's been a period of immense and continued re-invention and almost re-introduction to the world at large, coming out of surgery and therapy which was necessary to avoid life changing injury. Chances are that a lot of you will know B from rap music and tours over the years, and a lot might know him from Twitch, but either way (and if neither, too!), you're in for a sureshot as he and Pip catch up on life, music, album making, tours and how that looks these days, yoga, the world itself on the whole, and outlooks. Enjoy, and peep the rest of the of the past appearances too - it's a hell of an arc.
