Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip chats acting in THE ACOLYTE and HOUSE OF THE DRAGON, acompanied by Hardcore Listing homie CHRIS GLASSON!

It might have been tricky for Pip to interview himself to talk about recent acting roles in two of the biggest franchises in media history (Star Wars and Game Of Thrones EVER HEARD OF THEM), so he has enlisted the help of fellow podcasting pal and general pal Chris from Hardcore Listing to do the honours. It's a great little chat from a side of the curtain we don't always get to see behind, and definitely a couple of roles worth stopping to observe and celebrate. Enjoy this awesome conversation about how the whole thing went down, progressed and wrapped up. ENJOY! And be sure to catch all said programs on the links below.

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined once more by acting pal and all round beam of light STEVEN OGG!

A repeat showing from friend of the show and acting / performing heavyweight Steven, who always brings forth a tide of positivity and inspiration on the show. A very fun and cosy gathering as he and Pip get to chatting about acting, the sciences behind the whole thing in all degrees of detail, his new book of poetry 'Catharse-Is', collaborating and performance and getting together to create in the same room, accents, death, and what sounds like an escape room in the studio they're recording in. All good stuff, and a ton for you to enjoy be you long term fan of Steven or newcomer to the party.

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by two of the crew behind People Just Do Nothing (and tons more) STEVE STAMP & ALLAN 'SEAPA' MUSTAFA!

The 'tons more' on the above description is holding up a bunch of heavy material of course, as they do MUCH that deserves attention and commentary. Pip has a good history with the Kurupt FM crew having had them on in various guises in previous episodes, and this one is a reduced but no less awesome gathering. Hear the two chat about all sorts including their Sunday Brunch appearance, The Curse, People Just Do Nothing, Peacock and all the various projects they've undertaken, chemistry with actors, 'scenes of an intimate nature', Top Boy, self-made mythologies, ah just about everything. So much enjoyment - jump right in.

Stevie Martin • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #574 Jun 25, 2024

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by the fabulous comic (stage and sketch), writer and podcaster STEVIE MARTIN!

A glorious comical conversation with Pip and Stevie, who is someone to keep up with in the current comedy scene for real. You can actually make a start on that this year if you're in Edinburgh at the Fringe so be alert for that! Stevie made a huge name around the pandemical times via some inspired and hilarious sketch work (often in collaboration with the awesome Lola-Rose Maxwell), but it was more like a natural phenomenon that was waiting to happen. Stevie's been on the grind for a while now and this chat hints at the hard work involved, including building of audiences, podcasting, Fringe madness, journalism, sketch writing and directing, the online forest, ad work, ComComPod, and so much more. Truly enjoyable, catch up with Stevie and enjoy!

HAPPY PRIDE MONTH from all at the Distraction Pieces Podcast!

Every Friday there will be a Rewind episode featuring one of our friends, in case you missed it or simply want to revisit some wonderful chats...

Below is the original writeup from the episode, in this case from Wednesday, February 26, 2020.

Welcome, welcome, welcome to EPISODE 314 of the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by the fantastic in every way comedian, writer and actor MAE MARTIN!

A tremendous meetup of Pip and Mae, and dare I say a long overdue one at that… You’ll get to hear all about Mae in the greater scale and sense, from back in the day to… now… in the day…? Yeah that sounds fine to me… But yeah, everything from then to now, including what she is doing THIS VERY MOMENT, and by that of course I mean starring in the simultaneously hilariously funny and brutally honest Feel Good (well, coming in March), which looks set to blow up worldwide. So expect to hear it all from how to view the series (best served binged), the weirdness of editing trailers, getting the correct audience, Canada (Oh Canada), the process of getting a set together, Mae the character and Mae the person, sex scenes and writing a proudly LGBT show, humanising addition, the casting process, digging deep into personal history and the transition from Canada to London but SO MUCH MORE of course. Ladies and gentlemen, your new best friend, Mae Martin!

Jeff Nichols • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #573 Jun 18, 2024

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by esteemed filmmaker JEFF NICHOLS!

Jeff's work speaks for itself, as a cursory glance at his IMDB page will surely reveal. In speaking for itself, this means basically that you see a list of films he's worked on that is essentially wall-to-wall bangers to put it bluntly. You'll also see connective tissue by way of powerfully great actor Michael Shannon, who is a through-line in Jeff's cinematic output. This chat is a really nice and easy back and forth with Pip and Jeff, getting into aspects of casting, storytelling, detail, adaptation and the enigmatic inside to outside world of actors. OH and also a bonus two part question from a very highly rated actor who you'll be very excited to hear from, trust us. No spoilers. Enjoy this one, it's a sureshot for anyone of a cinematic leaning, and those who appreciate the mysterious art of film making.

HAPPY PRIDE MONTH from all at the Distraction Pieces Podcast!

Every Friday there will be a Rewind episode featuring one of our friends, in case you missed it or simply want to revisit some wonderful chats...

Originally broadcast Wednesday, September 9, 2015.

Welcome, welcome, welcome to EPISODE 57 of the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by musician, comic, actor, writer and so much more, Jordan Gray aka Tall Dark Friend!

This writeup is not from the original episode, but just a quick shout about Jordan. This was their first appearance on Distraction Pieces, the first of many it would turn out, and is one of the episodes you might have heard Pip cite many a time on subsequent episodes. One thing to bear in mind is that this is from almost 10 years ago at this point, and at this point in history we are now at episode 570+. So as you can well imagine, a LOT has been discussed since, much has been learned, many perspectives have been sharpened and multiplied, and we've seen a huge amount happening in the intervening years. Keep this in mind while listening, but also as Jordan has had some incredible leaps and bounds career-wise. A fascinating glimpse back in time, and definitely look back at the then future episodes with show pal Jordan!

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by comic, actor, writer and podcaster SARA BARRON!

If you're a long-term DPP listener this is an episode that will just be a pure snack treat for you, and likely you will be well on your merry way listening right now without even glancing at this write-up (as you will surely know Sara and if not, her circle of pals). BUT - if you are not familiar with Sara, prepare for a very fun, open and generally 'good business' episode with someone who is well versed and sharp in all aspects of the game (be it acting, podcasting, comedy and so on). One of the main threads linking it together is TV shows, but you'll hear goodies involving comedy and Fringe shows (including the ups and downs of all that), and all the other facets of Sara's world. Super nice - you'll get along well!

HAPPY PRIDE MONTH from all at the Distraction Pieces Podcast!

Every Friday there will be a Rewind episode featuring one of our friends, in case you missed it or simply want to revisit some wonderful chats...

Below is the original writeup from the episode, in this case from Wednesday, February 12, 2020.

Welcome, welcome, welcome to EPISODE 311 of the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by activist, author and actor (all the A’s), Michael Cashman! Sorry - let me correct that - Baron Cashman CBE!

An amazing meeting this week with Pip and Michael, a man whose experience and knowledge will come shining through immediately upon listening. As a founder of Stonewall (with Ian McKellen), ex-member of European Parliament, activist and former actor (those of us who grew up on Eastenders will remember him as Colin), his life has been a genuine document of ups and downs, highs and lows, but all navigated with love, conviction and positivity. His story is moving, uplifting and at times incredibly unfair, but as you will hear - from all of this, pure goodness has been his reward. Over 30 years of his journey has been underpinned by long term partner Paul, who is unfortunately no longer with us but as you’ll hear, is spoken of by Michael with such love and compassion and it’s pretty much impossible to not be stirred by - well, the whole conversation, let’s be frank. The rest is yours to discover - listen, learn, and become better acquainted with a strong force for good in the world. Welcome, Michael!

His book 'One Of Them' is available now on Bloomsbury!
