Amit is joined once again by his Cobra Kai running mate, Reece! We review Orphan and Orphan First Kill and compare the two wildly entertaining but completely different movies. We compare the slow burn of Orphan with the fast pace of First Kill, talk about how creepy the movies premise is and rave about the performance from Isabelle Fuhrman. We also talk about what's next in the franchise, and hope for another instalment of this highly entertaining movie franchise.

Amit sits down to review the blockbuster hit from the Sandalwood industry, Kantara. This movie has so much to unpack including the brilliance of Rishab Shetty (on and off screen), the complex and dynamic mix of characters, the cultural references and significance of the movie, as well as that truely enthralling finale. In a year of non stops hits from South India, is Kantara the movie of the year?

Amit is joined by cinephile extraordinaire Meghan Kadambe Dhawan, to review the A24 horror franchise, X and Pearl. We talk about what we liked and didn't like about both movies, the visual and contrasting styles, the direction techniques of Ti West as well as talk about how 'scary' we found each movie. We also seriously talk about the decision making and motivations of some of the characters which made this movie a little confusing. Where does this movie sit on our D-Scale? Tune in to find out.

Amit and Sunny review the mind-bending psychological thriller Rorschach (2022). We discuss the deeply layered story that keeps you guessing until the end, the outstanding performances of Mammootty and his stellar supporting cast, and the film’s bleak vision of how revenge and greed can corrupt everything it touches. Keanu Reeves and Liam Neeson may need to hold Mammootty’s beer because Rorschach delivers a tale of vengeance unlike any you’ve seen before. This is the latest in a series of Malayalam films D54 has reviewed and our admiration for the industry’s creativity and boldness only grows.

Amit and Sunny review the amazing 2021 Malayalam superhero film Minnal Murali. We react to the journey of Jaison and Shibu, one on the path to discovering his past and accepting his responsibility as a hero, and another crushed by society and on a tragic descent to villainy. We review the terrific performances of the charismatic leads, the unique and grounded storytelling approach, it’s perfect blend of charm, action and humour, and what sets this film apart from the increasingly tiresome Marvel franchise. Minnal Murali is a new vision of what superheroes films can be and we’re here for it!

Amit is joined by Ben from the History Voyager podcast to review one of his favourite films, Let Me In (2010) directed by Matt Reeves. We break this movie down and discuss the incredible performances from the child actors, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Chloë Grace Moretz, the directional style of Matt Reeves (and how he used similar traits in the Batman movie) and how this movie can be seen as a horror and /or a romance, depending how you want to see it. This was one of the most unique movies I have ever seen, and one I will remember for a long time.
