    Pig Jul 27, 2022
    Show notes

Amit is joined by Johannes from the Movie Mistrial podcast, to discuss the one of the best movies of 2021, Pig. We go into great depths and discuss how visually stunning this movie is, the performances of Nicolas Cage and the supporting cast, as well as talking about how deep and profound this movie is. This is the kind of movie everyone should watch and appreciate as it brings about questions we all face in our lives. We had a blast with this one and couldn't speak highly enough about it.

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent Jul 19, 2022
    Show notes

Amit is joined by the legend and Nic Cage super-fan Grant to review The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. We can't stop talking about this movie, as we discuss the legacy of Nicolas Cage before breaking down this film for all it's greatness. We discuss how well this movie is written, how much of a meta mind trip it takes us on, the perfect pairing of Nic Cage and Pedro Pascal and how we need more movies like this in Hollywood today. If you want to listen to a couple of Nic Cage super fans, tune in for this one.

Thor Love and Thunder Jul 12, 2022
    Show notes

We discuss Marvel’s latest offering, Thor: Love and Thunder (aka Love and Chunder). Is this the messiest, legacy-killing Marvel movie to date, or a refreshingly bold commitment to being ridiculous? We discuss whether this gag a minute comedy hit all the wrong notes, the decided lack of Guardians of the Galaxy, Chris Hemsworth the funny guy, Christian Bale as the terrifically frightening Gorr, and that Russell Crowe cameo. And don’t forget those screaming goats, bao gods and Thor’s true love – Mjolnir (and Jane Foster). The film might not be the GOAT, but is it at least worthy?

Jana Gana Mana Jul 05, 2022
    Show notes

We review the part thriller, part courtroom drama that is Jana Gana Mana (2022). The film takes us on a breathless journey following a police officer who tries desperately to solve a heinous crime, to an impassioned lawyer who makes you question everything you thought you knew. We discuss the ambitious reach of this film, touching on everything from the role of the media to institutional racism and classism, the towering performances of the two leads, and the film’s cinematic and narrative choices. This is a film that will entertain, infuriate and ultimately, shine a light on how a nation, and we as individuals, discover the truth.

    Love Death & Robots Jun 27, 2022
    Show notes

In this episode we take a look at Netflix's adult animated anthology series Love Death & Robots. We discuss the different animation styles used throughout the series, compare the different volumes, try to figure out what Netflix might be trying to do with this show and talk about some of the episodes we liked and disliked. As big fans of this series, we had a lot to say and appreciate what Netflix is doing with this, despite whatever agenda it's trying to drive forward.

    RRR Jun 20, 2022
    Show notes

We discuss the jaw dropping spectacle that is RRR. Cracking top 10 lists everywhere, this is the story of two legendary Indian revolutionaries taking on the British Raj, while educating us on how to catch a tiger and what motorbikes are actually designed for. We discuss the breathtaking action sequences, a colonial dance battle, the immensely talented leads, and the perfectly despicable Governor and his wife.

    Morbius Jun 13, 2022
    Show notes

It's Morbin time! In this special episode of D54 Amit is joined by Otis from the Allentown Presents podcast to discuss the bizarre Morbius movie. We discuss the nonsensical plot, Jared Leto and Matt Smiths contradictory performances, some of the cool action scenes and try to make sense of whatever happened in those post credit scenes. This movie confused the both of us, but it sure did lead to a fun podcast episode.

Top Gun: Maverick Jun 07, 2022
    Show notes

Amit and Sunny complete their Top Gun journey by looking at the unexpected worldwide hit that is Top Gun: Maverick. We talk about the jaw dropping aerial sequences, a mission that felt impossible, the (mostly) new surrounding cast, and an unnecessary romance. Tom Cruise has delivered the perfect sequel 36 years after the original, and it might just be the best action film you’ll see this year.

    Top Gun (1986) May 31, 2022
    Show notes

Amit and Sunny take a trip back to 1986 and review the highest grossing movie of the year, Top Gun. We talk about Tom Cruises dynamic performance, the character arc and the cool fighter pilot scenes in this movie. Then we switch things up a bit and talk about how this movie impacted culture and discuss the interesting trivia behind this movie. This sure was interesting.

Everything Everywhere all at Once May 26, 2022
    Show notes

We review the critically acclaimed Everything Everywhere all at once to determine if all the hype around this movie was real. Spoiler alert, it is. Dennis and Amit break this movie down from its unique visual style, to its storytelling and overall themes and talk a little bit about the influences it draws upon. This was a blast.
