Cam shared with us the ins and outs of how he plans to work with his volleyball athletes week 1 when they return to Penn State, and that plan is to get back to the basics, keep programming savagely simple, and get really good at lifting again. This is some advice that I think all of us could use when we look at our programming going forward upon return to campus.

    Show notes

“If we are really serving both of them (players and coaches) what we really might have to do to be best for all of them is almost step back, and say ok, how can we do things to get better in the least amount of work possible?”
How can we support what these young people need to do to be successful for the coaches we are trying to assist?”

As I continue to discuss some of my take aways from FREE-VASPS, today we come to Kaiti Jones presentation on how she plans to develop her basketball players to be prepared post stay at home. Kaiti does some really awesome things to help impact the training load on her athletes by manipulating aspects of her work with them both in training and during sport practice. This allows the sport coaches to continue to progress as they deem fit with out interruption or massive modifications. I’ve spoken many times about how important I feel that this is for us to be able to do, and was super imnpressed with how Kaiti makes this happen.

Podcast 238- An Instagram Live Conversation with Adam Ringler May 26, 2020
    Show notes

I get the great opportunity to talk with Adam Ringler about how we can maximize some of the time and opportunities in our down time. We discuss the role of continuing education, connecting with coaches and athletes, and the unique challenges that we were both having “working from home” and how these will impact us going forward. Adam then runs down the rabbit hole of return to play, which is a project he’s working on, and what impact that has on his view on how we will need to be involved in “return to sport” in multiple levels for our athletes. He then dives into where facts and opinions both fit into the discussions we are about to have with our athletes and coaches, and how important it is to work the objective and subjective together to make the best decisions.

Mike shared with us how he plans on building his preparation program, what were the driving factors behind it, and the questions that he used to build it. Today I review 4 key points that I took from that and how those four points made me go back and review what we have planned for our guys, and even make some changes.
