Episode 26 True Crime: The First Recorded United States Trial The Manhattan Well Murder of Elma Sands and the Legends of Lavinia Fisher - the First Female Serial Killer in the United States Jul 09, 2020

Show notes

In honor of Alex being the first Bachelor and Trista being the first Bachelorette, we both took that theme of firsts and ran with it.

Danielle discusses the first recorded trial in the United States, The Manhattan Well Murder of Gulielma “Elma” Elmore Sands. The Defendant in the case, Levi Weeks, had a star-studded cast of attorneys, including Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton (yes we do discuss Hamilton the play a lot in the episode, which Megan got Danielle obsessed with).

Megan talks about the legends surrounding Lavinia Fisher, who is widely thought to be the first female serial killer in the United States. Pro Tip: Don’t eat Oleander flowers, and don’t drink Lavinia’s tea.

We also share very recent true crime news about the heartbreaking death of Vanessa Guillen, we share some bad news about the sentence a Georgia child pornographer Peter Mallory and we chat briefly about Ghislane Maxwell, long time romantic partner (and alleged partner in crime) to the piece of shit that is Jeffrey Epstein.

First story begins at 19:35. Second story begins at 1:06:11.

Episode 25 The Bachelor: Crime and Roses Investigates: Crime and Roses Investigates: Where Is Alex? ... Godmother of Bachelorette Trista! (GOAT Alex Michel & Trista Sutter) Jul 07, 2020

Show notes

This week Bachelor GOAT covered two seasons in one night - Alex Michel and Trista Rehn. Alex was the first Bachelor, and Trista Rehn (now Sutter) was the first Bachelorette. This episode was a time capsule back to 2002 and 2003 and man was that a rough time for fashion and eyebrows.

We get to see lots of Bachelor Nation firsts: the first kiss, the first steal, the first “not here to make friends”, and the first medical emergency of the series. We also get to see the first wedding in Bachelor Nation history - the wedding of Trista and Ryan Sutter! There’s a reason Trista is referred to as the “Godmother” of the franchise, she’s such a sweet soul.

We have tea this week, unlike Cassie. We discuss Tyler C., Kaitlyn Bristowe, Shawn Booth, and Garrett from Hannah Brown’s season.

The POC (People of Color) points for the week were sad, VERY SAD, especially with the fact that we saw 2 recap seasons in one! We saw LaNease go on a date and give the first kiss of the franchise and then … basically nothing!

Episode 24: True Crime: The Honor Killings of Gelareh Bagherzadeh and Coty Beavers and the Murder of Muhlaysia Booker Jul 02, 2020

Show notes

This week’s episode is a little long but necessary and emotional, sorry not sorry.

Megan focuses on the 2012 honor killings of Gelareh Bagherzadeh and Coty Beavers. She does a deep dive into what honor killings even are… which, in the very simplest of terms is an EXTREME form of a family disagreement and just gross and violent.

As many people in Bachelor Nation know, Jordan Rodgers, JoJo Fletcher’s fiancee is also the brother of Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers. They’ve got a rather difficult relationship and have been estranged for quite some time. Megan does a deep dive into the brothers and their relationship and connects it all to the murders of Gelareh Bagherzadeh and Coty Beavers.

Danielle talks about the assault and recent murder of Muhlaysia Booker who was a transgender woman from the bustling LGBTQ+ community of Dallas, Texas, where Joelle “JoJo” Fletcher and Chris Harrison are from.

(If you want to skip the Bachelor talk, the first story kinda starts at 18:56 and really starts at 42:12 and the second story starts at 1:14:11).

We also share some true crime news about: The Golden State Killer, The disappearance of Vanessa Guillen, a mini update about Lori Vallow, and COVID at San Quentin.

BONUS EPISODE The Bachelor: Interview Luke Pell (The Bachelorette Season 12 and Winter Games) Jul 01, 2020

Show notes

This week we saw Joelle “JoJo” Fletcher break some hearts and get her happily ever after on The Bachelor: GOAT. We had the opportunity to catch up with one of the men JoJo let get away and who we saw appear on our favorite Bachelor franchise show, Winter Games, Luke Pell! We are reminded what a sweetheart (this) Luke is as we talk about his time on the show, his recent breakup with Amanda Mertz, what’s next for the business owner and country singer and it wouldn’t be us unless we talked a little true crime at the end!

Episode 23 The Bachelor: Chef's Kiss or Hot Garbage: The Men of Jojo's Season (GOAT Joelle “JoJo” Fletcher) Jun 30, 2020

Show notes

This week we saw a myriad of men, some good and some … not so good! We saw The Bachelor spend way too much time showing us the highly problematic Chad but we also got to see Jojo get her happily ever after.

We have lots of tea about Papa Chris (Harrison), Demi, Clare Crawley and a little behind the scenes information from Paige Vigil. We also have a “decent” amount of POC Points.

Episode 22 True Crime: The Murder of April Tinsley and the Exoneration of Nick Yarris Jun 25, 2020

Show notes

This week we discuss the murder of April Tinsley in Indiana, where Bachelor Ben Higgins is from, whose murder was solved decades later thanks to DNA technology (WARNING: This story involves the sexual assault and murder of a child).

We also discuss the murder of Linda Craig and the exoneration of Nick Yarris who spent 22 years on death row after being wrongfully convicted of Linda’s murder. Both of the Nicks get a redemption story this time around, and Megan loves that. Also, because of our recent conversation around Just Mercy, Megan felt the need to continue the conversation this week with a story of another wrongfully convicted person.

(If you want to skip the Bachelor talk, the first story starts at 16:57 and the second story starts at 1:00:44).

Episode 20 True Crime: Peaches and Cherries Doe & the Murder of Robert Knox (from Harry Potter) Jun 18, 2020

Show notes

This week we discuss two high profile cases with a twist. Two unidentified victims with tattoos that lead to a notorious serial killer that is yet to be caught. We also talk about the murder of Robert Knox, who played Marcus Belby in the Harry Potter Franchise.

We mention an episode of the Bachelor Party (a podcast by Juliet Litman) where she speaks with Rachel Lindsay- the episode is called "How to keep watching 'The Bachelor' with Rachel Lindsay," it can be found here. So... in the vein of honoring some of the awesome POC (People of Color) members of Bachelor Nation this episode is based on our favorites Kenneth "Diggy" Moreland and Wills Reid.

The story of Peaches and Cherries Doe starts at 15:12. Content warning - there's a child victim mentioned.

The story of Robert Knox starts at 59:22. Content warning- everyone involved in this story is young (mainly teens).
