Should Christians Be Concerned with Climate Change? Feb 26, 2020
    Show notes

Episode 388 | Dr. Michael Horton and Adriel Sanchez answer caller questions.

    Show Notes

    CoreChristianity.com

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. Does Romans 4 teach that we are saved by faith? I'm struggling to make sense of this. I have a friend who is convinced that we need to do good works not to earn salvation exactly but that in some way is necessary to receive salvation and enter heaven. I think she is confused but I'm not sure where to point her.

    2. When witnessing to Jehovah's Witnesses John 14 where it says that the Father is greater and in Colossians where it says that Jesus is the first-born over-all creation, how can I witness to them about Jesus being God?

    3. I have been listening to the show for a while and was wondering where you stand on contemporary music. I have heard some things that makes it sound like you are against it and other things that sounds like you think contemporary music in church is okay. Can you please clarify this?

    4. Is climate change something we can pray for, or should we not concern ourselves with that because it ties in with God's plan for the end times? I'm kind of concerned about it.

    5. My question is, in 2 Thessalonians 2:11 what does it mean God gave them a great delusion? And what does this say about Gods character?

What Should Be the Christian's Attitude Toward Homosexuality? Feb 25, 2020

Episode 387 | Dr. Michael Horton and Adriel Sanchez answer caller questions.

    CoreChristianity.com

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. How do you understand John 20:23, "If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld"? Is Jesus saying that the church can either deny people forgiveness or forgive in the place of God?

    2. What should be the Christian's attitude towards homosexuality in general and particularly in positions of leadership in the church?

    3. I have a friend who is a new believer and is attending Kabbalah classes. How does that line up with Scripture and Jesus' teachings?

    4. I'm confused about the passage in the Bible that says, "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers." Does this really mean that I as a Christian cannot marry an unbeliever; or is this passage talking about something else?

    5. My question is, in 2 Thessalonians 2:11 what does it mean God gave them a great delusion? And what does this say about Gods character?

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. Hi Mike and Adriel. I would like to know to what extent the Old Testament laws still apply to us today. Would you say that only the 10 commandments apply; or would you also say that other laws apply?

    2. Hi Mike and Adriel. I have a question about how to navigate a mental health situation. For years I have struggled with anxiety and depression and was told that it was just a spiritual issue. But after being encouraged by a friend to see a psychologist I was diagnosed with PTSD and now my psychologist is recommending talk therapy to work though some trauma I experienced in college. What are your thoughts about this? Does my faith have anything to say about it?

    3. Do people in heaven or hell know what people on earth are doing?

    4. What would you say really helps in pursuing holiness? Does guilting help; or should we only use the gospel to motivate people?

    5. In Ephesians 5 Paul says that Christians should be submitted to one another. What does that look like in practice? How do leaders in the church, for example, submit to the people they lead; or is Paul making a different point?

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. Why did Jesus' ministry focus on the Jews? Why did he not go out to the gentiles if the gospel is for all people?

    2. Hello, I want to thank you for your wonderful shows which have been so helpful to me in understanding the scriptures, could you explain what is meant in Leviticus 27:29 - did the LORD require human sacrifice?

    3. I'm really confused when Paul says that no one seeks God in Romans 3 because we are the ones who have to have faith and seek God. Isn't seeking God required to be saved? Is it that Paul isn't being literal?

    4. Certain Scriptures that we read we tend to personalize them such as Jeremiah 29:11. Now I love that verse and like to think about that verse in terms of my own life. However, that was said to specific people. And God was making a promise to that group of people. Now is it safe for me to take that verse out of its context and apply it to my own life?

What's the Most Important Thing to Understand About Worship? Feb 20, 2020
    Show notes

Episode 384 | Dr. Michael Horton and Adriel Sanchez answer caller questions.

    Show Notes

    CoreChristianity.com

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. In 1 Corinthians 15:50 it says, "I tell you this, brothers: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable." I'm really confused about this because it sounds like Paul is saying that sin is tied to our body.

    2. Are good works part of salvation; and what are good works exactly?

    3. What is the most important thing New believers need to understand about worship?

    4. My question relates to the end of 1 Corinthians 14 were it says, "let him who is spiritual acknowledge that what I'm writing to you is a command of the Lord." What do you see here that is being commanded?

Should Christians Give Money to Panhandlers? Feb 19, 2020
    Show notes

Episode 383 | Dr. Michael Horton and Adriel Sanchez answer caller questions.

    Show Notes

    CoreChristianity.com

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. How should Christians handle panhandlers? Are there Biblical principles for giving to people who come to us and look down and out?

    2. I'm really confused about predestination in Ephesians 1. Is Paul saying that everyone who is saved is predestined?

    3. I was raised in a Christian family, but I have only been actively following Jesus for the last couple of years, since I started college. What I have discovered is that it seems really hard to make progress as a Christian. Is it normal for Christians to struggle with the same sins over and over?

    4. Where was Jesus for the 3 days after he died on the cross. I happen to believe that he went to hell to pay the full price for our sins. I would love to know what you guys think. I have a few Scriptures in mind when I think about my answer. In Luke, Jesus said he had not yet ascended to his Father after his resurrection and thus he did not go to heaven? He also said that as Jonah was in the belly in the whale so shall the son of man be. Paul said that he who ascended first descended. And cursed is everyone who hangs upon a tree. I'm under the perspective that he paid the full price, which was hell.

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. I have been reading the Old Testament and I see where the Ishmaelites have the crescent moon. What is that all about, and does this have anything to do with Muslims today?

    2. Is it wrong for a Christian to do good works to prove to themselves that they are saved and have Christ? Or should they obey because they have Christ already?

    3. I know that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever, but I struggle with the way God is portrayed in the Old Testament. I have a hard time making sense of God using Israel judging nations through wars where women and children were killed.

    4. Who are the spirits in prison in 1 Peter 3:19? Is this a kind of purgatory?

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. I believe that in every age, Christians have had blind spots. What do you think are some potential blind spots in our age?

    2. Can a person reject God's grace or walk away after receiving God's grace?

    3. I had a theology professor say that it can't be disputed the way someone interprets Scripture specifically when the Bible speaks about man to man relationships and how God abhors those and how some people interpret that to mean pedophilia rather than homosexuality. Are we supposed to correct our brothers on that note?

    4. Does God really work all things together for good? I know that the bible says that, and maybe I just need some reassurance but there are things I have experienced that I can't imagine God using for good.

    5. I heard a Sunday School teacher make the point that Jesus saved by faith. This sounds wrong to me but I'm not sure why. Can you please give me your thoughts?
