Do Other Religions Worship the Same God? Mar 11, 2020
    Show notes

Episode 398 | Dr. Michael Horton and Adriel Sanchez answer caller questions.

    Show Notes

    CoreChristianity.com

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. If Jesus is the only way to salvation, how should we understand other religions? Are they just distortions of the truth in your view? Do they worship an entirely different God; or do they worship the true God in the wrong way with false ideas?

    2. If you are saved, why does the person that is saved have to go through a judgment? I thought being saved by the Lord's grace and blood that you would be saved and live be with him. Thanks.

    3. Can you discuss Noah's curse of Canaan in Genesis 9? I overheard a brother talking about how it was a very important event, but when I searched about it online, I found that it may have been used to justify the enslavement of Africans in the past. What significance does Noah's curse here have in the larger story of the Bible and in humanity?

    4. When someone dies we know that they are absent in the body and present with the Lord. But does eternity begin in that moment? In other words, is that loved one who has gone before me racing ahead by millennia and time is no more; or does time remain a factor even after we die or immediately after we die?

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. I have been listening to the show for several months and I have heard you guys talk about Romans 8, where Paul says that God works everything together for good. From your understanding does this mean that God uses suffering and trials to make us holy and more patient?

    2. If we come into the world sinful at birth what then happens to children who die before they come to the age of understanding?

    3. Do you believe that the Scripture can be interpreted symbolically?

    4. Who is who in the verse that says, "the Lord said to my Lord, sit at my right hand until I make my enemies my footstool"?

Should Race Cease to Exist in the Body of Christ? Mar 09, 2020
    Show notes

Episode 396 | Dr. Michael Horton and Adriel Sanchez answer caller questions.

    Show Notes

    CoreChristianity.com

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. What is implied by calling the church the body of Christ given that Christ's physical body has ascended into heaven?

    2. Thank you so much for his show. I have a question about Paul's comments in 1 Corinthians 11:29. When Paul tells his readers they need to discern the body when they take the Lord's supper, I've heard some say this means before I can take communion, I first have to be able to understand the nature of Christ's presence in the bread and wine. But it doesn't seem like Paul is talking about that much in this chapter. His primary concern seems to be how we discern the community of the Church as his unified body. He's upset about divisiveness in the church fueled by selfishness, and because the Corinthians are failing to do this as they sit at the Lord's Table, they are eating and drinking judgement on themselves. What do you think it means to discern the body?

    3. Where are Heaven and hell in your understanding? Because of science we know that hell isn't under our feet and heaven above our heads, so I'm not sure how to understand Heaven and hell in the Bible.

    4. In 1 Peter 2:9, "But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession…" does this mean our own race and nationalities are now erased in a sense?

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. In 1 Corinthians 15 it speaks of a spiritual body that we will receive in heaven. I'm confused about this because the Bible doesn't seem to say much about it. Can you shed some light on what our spiritual bodies will be like and how that will be different from the physical body we now have? 2. How do you understand the story of Judah and Tamar? What are we supposed to learn from this? 3. If I'm depressed and have anxiety am I a bad Christian? 4. Can you speak to the idea that God helps those who help themselves? There are a lot of Christians that believe that we just need to sit around and wait for God to do everything. When the Bible gives us a very different picture. 1. How should Christians think about money, their money, other people's money? Sometimes I hear people speak as if they are free to do whatever they please with their money (so long as it's legal). Is this a Biblical view? 2. The Bible talks a lot about money. Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. I'm confused by what Jesus meant when he said came before John the Baptist for baptism. He said it was to fulfill all righteousness. What did that mean if Jesus was sinless? 2. I just heard episode 282 where you talked about the three levels of forgiveness, reconciliation, and restoration—I thought that was an excellent way to talk about how to handle offenses and especially abuse from a loved one. My follow up question is this: when the abusive person is a parent and you know reconciliation or restoration is unwise or not possible, how do you still show honor to your parent? 3. Since Christians tend easily to divide with disagreements about doctrine, how do you distinguish between what is essential and what is not? Or should we treat all Biblical doctrines the same? 4. In 1 John 4:1-3 what does John mean by "spirit of antichrist"? I always thought that the antichrist would be a person. 5. Is repentance a work we do? 1. I really love your guy's show and have been learning a lot and would love you to answer this question: How can I become a great man of God? What should I really focus on in my walk with God? 2. I attend a church that preaches contrary to the Prosperity Gospel. given that God does not supply Christians with plenty of money and material things but only that God provides us with only what we need, if I become very successful and wealthy do I thank God for all the wealth I have accumulated or do I just say, "I'm a very lucky guy"? 3. When the Bible speaks about the unrighteous, sexually immoral, and drunkards not inheriting the Kingdom of God, is this talking about not receiving rewards in heaven or is this passage saying that these people will not even make it into heaven? 4. I'm wondering what we should do if someone in the church who believes in conspiracy theories like flat earth or that 911 was inside job and is talking about this at church. What should we do about this? Is this a church discipline issue? 5. How do you understand John 8:15: "You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one"? Didn't Jesus judge people all the time? 6. Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. In Matthew 5:11–12 when Jesus says that we are blessed when we are persecuted, does he mean this literally?

    2. My husband and I are looking for good resources to help teach our kids about Jesus. Do you know any authors that write for small kids that would be suitable for our five-year old?

    3. I have a problem with Modern Worship music. A lot of what I hear today is jangle pop and strange things that remind me of the world and sound like bad U2. How do I get passed this?

    4. I grew up hearing that God's church is supposed to be holy, but in our culture today, the church doesn't look holy and it seems to have fallen for much of the same controversies that I see in the world. What does the Bible have to say about this?

Must Christians Sell Their Possessions to Truly Follow Christ? Feb 27, 2020
    Show notes

Episode 389 | Dr. Michael Horton and Adriel Sanchez answer caller questions.

    Show Notes

    CoreChristianity.com

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. If Christians are supposed to follow Christ and do as he did, why is it that so many Christians stop short of the full demands of love? Why don't more people commit to live humble lives for Christ? We are so materialistic and worldly and we have so much stuff. Shouldn't we be like the early church that had everything in common and give most of what we have to the poor? I would love to hear your thoughts on this.

    2. In Matthew Jesus says to be baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. 20 years ago I was only baptized in the name of Jesus. Do I need to get rebaptized? Does this have an effect on my Christian life?

    3. In Acts 8 it says, "And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord carried Philip away, and the eunuch saw him no more, and went on his way rejoicing. But Philip found himself at Azotus, and as he passed through he preached the gospel to all the towns until he came to Caesarea." When it says the Spirit of the Lord carried him away, what does that mean? Was he teleported or just directed to leave?

    4. Loving the show, you guys are awesome. Can you share with us your favorite parables and tell us what you like about them?

    5. Does Deuteronomy 26 where it talks about welcoming the stranger apply to us today or has this command passed away with the Old Covenant? How would Christians or churches put this into practice?
