How Do I Find God's Perfect Will For My Life? Apr 08, 2020
    Show notes

Episode 418 | Dr. Michael Horton and Adriel Sanchez answer caller questions.

    Show Notes

    CoreChristianity.com

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. If you believe in Jesus and you are justified, how can you lose your salvation? This seems like it would be saying that Jesus doesn't have the power to finish the salvation he started.

    2. How can Christians go through life with the joy of salvation knowing that they have loved ones with their spouses or children grandchildren parents are not saved and are going to spend a lifetime eternity in hell? How can we reconcile that? How can we go through life joyously as a believer knowing that we have loved ones that are not saved and are going to be in hell for eternity? I myself have a hard time dealing with this knowing that I have family members that are not saved and will be going to hell and I just cannot come to terms with this.

    3. I really believe in striving to lead a holy life but the more I strive the more I realize that I can't do what I want to do. I have heard people say that we need to rely on the Holy Spirit. How do we do this? And how does our striving for holiness fit with our relying on the Holy Spirit?

    4. What does Jesus mean in Luke 10 when Jesus says that he saw Satan fall like lighting from heaven. Is he talking about a time before Adam and Eve where in the garden? Can you explain the fall of Satan and what that means for us today?

    5. How should I go about finding God's perfect will for my life? I know that I could do a lot of things in life, but I tend to worry that I am going to settle for something less than God's best. Thanks for any advice you have.

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. Can studying theology ever be bad for your spiritual well-being?

    2. Can believers lose our salvation? Among my congregation I hear that people are saved and then lose their salvation and then are saved again. I don't think God plays games with our salvation. How can it be that people are saved one moment and then not the next and then saved again?

    3. How do you maintain hope in the face of all the confusion in the church today?

    4. Is Romans 8 talking about the salvation of the natural world?

How Do I Get Rid of My Guilt? Apr 06, 2020
    Show notes

Episode 416 | Dr. Michael Horton and Adriel Sanchez answer caller questions.

    Show Notes

    CoreChristianity.com

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. Starting at Acts 21:10 Agabus prophesies about Paul's arrest. I've heard it claimed that Agabus got some of the arrest's details wrong. And therefore it's ok if we prophesy and get some details wrong. Was Agabus wrong on some of his details about Paul's arrest?

    2. I understand how Jesus takes away the penalty of sin but how does he remove the guilt and shame, especially of my backsliding?

    3. I grew up thinking that if I was faithful God would provide me with a good life. Yet, I know of so many Christians who are not blessed, and especially when I think of Christians in poor countries that are faithfully enduring persecution it seems like being faithful to God doesn't lead to a more blessed life. And as I read the Bible, especially the psalms it seems like even the wicked prosper. Can you explain this?

    4. How can I have a close relationship with God? When I was part of a church that ministered to widows, I was amazed at how close some of them seemed to God. They just seemed to have a strong love and sense of his care for them. What do you think makes for a close relationship with God?

    5. My question is Jesus says if you ask me anything in my name, I will do it and there are other similar quotes that come from him. But what's very difficult is even things that seem to be God's will: asking for people's salvation, asking for people will severe illnesses to be healed aren't answered. God does not answer those prayers on many occasions. So I'd love to hear your encouraging thoughts on how Christians can take hold of promises such as these without being discouraged when prayers aren't answered. Thank you and God bless you.

Episode 415 | Dr. Michael Horton and Adriel Sanchez answer caller questions.

    Show Notes

    CoreChristianity.com

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. In the Bible it says we need to give an account for every thought, word, and deed? If there is no condemnation in Christ, why do we need to give an account for that? And what kind of account do we have to give?

    2. At the institution of the Lord's supper, Jesus said, "this is my body," and "this is my blood," in reference to the bread and wine. So, are we eating the actual body and blood of Christ when we partake of the Lord's supper?

    3. Why do you think studying theology is practical?

    4. How can I have a close relationship with God? When I was part of a church that ministered to widows, I was amazed at how close some of them seemed to God. They just seemed to have a strong love and sense of his care for them. What do you think makes for a close relationship with God?

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. I was not aware that any Psalms were written during or after the exile to Babylon, but that appears to be the case with Psalm 137. Can you shed any light on this Psalm—who wrote it, when, and how are we to grapple with the last, brutal verse (Psalm 137:9)?

    2. Should Christian women wear head coverings?

    3. How should we encourage others to be more edifying in their speech?

    4. What should we focus on when we take the Lord's Supper?

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. Why do you guys encourage people to remember their baptism as a response to doubting their salvation, if we are not saved by baptism but through faith in Christ?

    2. Hey guys, is Hebrews 12:14 talking about imputed righteousness, or something else? Thanks.

    3. In Matthew 5:44 Jesus says that we should love our enemies. Does Jesus really want us to love people who hate us?

Is it Wrong for Mothers to Work if they Have Young Children? Mar 31, 2020
    Show notes

Episode 412 | Dr. Michael Horton and Adriel Sanchez answer caller questions.

    Show Notes

    CoreChristianity.com

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. How does Paul use the terms flesh and spirit in the book of Romans? Is he talking about material and ontology or is he talking about something else? And if it's not something that is material, do we still have a sin nature after we have been regenerated by Christ?

    2. Can you explain what eternal subordination of the son (was) is and what the implications of this error are? Thanks.

    3. My husband and I just found out we are pregnant (praise God!). There are other young mothers in the office where I work that continue to work while raising a family. In our church, however, there are very few, if any, working mothers. My husband and I have decided that I will not continue with my outside job once the baby comes, but because it is not the "social norm" in my office, I already know my boss will not be understanding when I break the news. Could you provide some Biblical references on what God says should be the right reaction to this decision and how to have that tough conversation with my employer (a devout Catholic) when the time comes?

    4. I have been through two church splits over doctrine. John 17 seems to make unity really important. What do you think about this?

    5. Can you explain the parable of the 10 virgins? I have heard it taught as the difference being works or love or Holy Spirit.

How Do I Conquer My Sin? Mar 30, 2020
    Show notes

Episode 411 | Dr. Michael Horton and Adriel Sanchez answer caller questions.

    Show Notes

    CoreChristianity.com

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. How does a Christian mortify sin? Because Scripture says that if we put to death the deeds of the Body than we shall live. So, can you give some practical steps on how to mortify sin. For example, how to mortify profanity. If someone keeps using foul language and they keep repenting and they get tired of repenting because they keep doing it the moment after they repent, how does a person overcome and mortify that kind of sin?

    2. What does Paul mean when he says that 'we are to judge angels'?

    3. Why is it important to believe in justification by faith and have assurance? Doesn't a lack of having assurance help us to sate motivated to do good works?

    4. In John 14:27 Jesus says, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid." But in Matthew 10:34 Jesus says, "Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword." How do these two fit together?

    4. My question is from Colossians 1:21–23. How do I make sense of the word "if?" Is salvation dependent upon us? Can we abandon it?
