TV & Movie Reviews: The Crow (1994) Oct 29, 2021

Show notes

As a follow-up to yesterday's comic review with Tony and Chris, we review the 1994 cult phenomenon The Crow. Best known for the tragic accident which saw Brandon Lee lose his life. Based on the comic created by James O'Barr and directed by Alex Proyas, we take a look at how this movie stands up. Crossover review with The VHS Strikes Back.

Plot:

A poetic guitarist Eric Draven is brought back to life by a crow a year after he and his fiancée are murdered. The crow guides him through the land of the living, and leads him to his killers: knife thrower Tin-tin, drugetic Funboy, car buff T-Bird, and the unsophisticated Skank. One by one, Eric gives these thugs a taste of their own medicine. However their leader Top-Dollar, a world-class crime lord who will dispatch his enemies with a Japanese sword and joke about it later, will soon learn the legend of the crow and the secret to the vigilante's invincibility.

Femme on Film: Josie and the Pussycats Oct 24, 2021

Show notes

Welcome to Femme on Film where host Ria Carrogan and a guest chat about films made for women, about women, by women… just awesome lady (and those who identify as awesome lady folk) content that has often been unfairly maligned, misunderstood by critics, and are often way ahead of their time and need a revisit.

This is a place to discuss all of this, and more!

This episode, Ria and Tony Farina discuss 2001’s Josie and the Pussycats, whether the critical mauling it received was deserved and just how ahead of its time it was. There’s swearing, feminist rants, Ria’s shockingly loud laugh and a short visit to the Rosario Dawson Appreciation Society.

A huge thank you to the Comics in Motion network who has given space to create this podcast. If you would like to come and chat about a film for Femme on Film, drop Ria a message via Twitter.
