    Chiro Hustle

Chiro Hustle Podcast is a business, mindset, and marketing podcast for chiropractors who want more—from their practices, their profession, and themselves.

Hosted by James Chester and produced by Luke Millett, Chiro Hustle delivers real conversations with chiropractors, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders who are actively building successful, principled practices. This is not theory or recycled advice. It’s practical insight from people who have done the work and continue to push chiropractic forward.

Each episode explores what it actually takes to succeed in today’s chiropractic landscape—practice growth, branding, leadership, systems, patient communication, and personal development. Just as important, Chiro Hustle tackles the mindset behind success: discipline, consistency, accountability, and the willingness to stand for chiropractic without apology.

The podcast respects chiropractic’s roots while addressing modern business realities. Whether you’re straight, mixer, cash-based, insurance-based, or somewhere in between, the mission is the same: help chiropractors build influence, impact, and long-term sustainability without compromising their values.

Guests share their wins, failures, and lessons learned—openly and honestly—so listeners can avoid common pitfalls and accelerate their own growth. Students, associates, and seasoned doctors alike will find perspective, motivation, and actionable ideas they can apply immediately.

Chiro Hustle is more than a podcast. It’s a mindset and a movement—encouraging chiropractors to take ownership of their outcomes, lead with integrity, and hustle with purpose.

If you’re serious about chiropractic and committed to building a practice that reflects your values and vision, this podcast is for you.

    Welcome to Chiro Hustle.

LET’S HUSTLE !!! LUKE MILLETT (PRODUCER): Hey guys, welcome to episode 541 of the Chiro Hustle Podcast. I’m your producer, Luke Millett, and here’s your host, James Chester. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): So today we have the opportunity of interviewing Dr. Calvin Ng. If you want to hear us discuss how your health is an inside job, stay tuned. Welcome back! This is another episode of the Chiro Hustle Podcast. It’s Calvin Ng. I just got the clarification on that before we start this episode. If you look at his last name, it’s Ng, I-N-G, but it’s N-G. But I’m really excited. I’ve been tracking this dude down for about two years to get on the show. He finally solidified a schedule with me. So here we are. He’s episode 541. So this is a good chance for your friends and family and colleagues and patients or practice members, whatever we call them. Everybody has their own little terminology, what they call people, who shows up to their clinic and gets adjusted. So this is a good chance for people to get reintroduced to you and to hear all about your story of how you got into Chiro practice. But before we get there, I have a couple introduction pieces of our big Y. Why do we do what we do? Well, we protect freedom of speech. It’s the First Amendment. If you’re out there and listening to this, share the show. We’ve never censored anybody on this platform. And that’s really important. We’re about to have our birthday on July 4th, born on the 4th of July, Chiro Hustle. But we do protect freedom of speech. And I think that’s really important in today’s information economy. We should definitely share the show, share the show, share the show, share the show. And then we do support medical freedom and family health freedom. They’re not the same thing. One is for the individual, one is for the family unit. And as we go down the line, we do protect BJ Palmer’s Sacred Trust. It’s BJ Palmer’s last words. If you want to know more about Chiro practice, go right now to your favorite search engine and look for BJ Palmer’s last words or put in the field, Sacred Trust of Chiro practice. You’re going to learn so much more about Chiro practice, things you never knew before. Even if you’re a chiropractor. And then we do support, subluxation based chiropractic. I know I shouldn’t have to say that, but it’s become a part of our mantra. They’re taking it out of the schools. Let’s not let that happen. Let’s support subluxation based chiropractic. And then last, we do believe in an intelligence, a universal intelligence. We believe that when man or woman, the physical gets adjusted, it connects them to man or woman, the spiritual. And with that being said, Dr. Calvin, welcome to Chiro Hustle. DR CALVIN NG DC (GUEST): Thanks buddy. Appreciate it. Yeah, long time coming. Absolutely. It’s been a long time. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): But in the relativity of all this, it’s all about relationships and it’s all about staying consistent and building the brand. Now you’re part of the Chiro Hustle family. So thank you. DR CALVIN NG DC (GUEST): Thank you. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): Thank you. Yeah. So we were out there in Burbank and got a chance to meet you and was like, dang, this guy, I need to get him on a show. Now you’re here. So your backstory pun intended. Tell us how you tell us how you got into this profession of chiropractic and maybe share with us your story. DR CALVIN NG DC (GUEST): Yeah. Man, it’s it’s been a long time. My first time getting adjusted was I think I was in college and I was I wasn’t really competing that hard, but I was getting serious. I was doing Olympic weightlifting. So that’s like the snatch and clean and jerk, just two movements, but a hell of a lot of work. So I was doing that and I was I was at this gym and in San Jose, California and at that time I was going to San Jose State. And so I’m over there lifting, right? And these guys over there are all talking about their chiropractic adjustment, how great they feel, like all this stuff. My hips are all off. My squats all crooked. Like I need to get my get get my chiropractor to adjust me and fix this and do that and do some soft tissue work on me. I was like, what are you guys talking about? Like what what is all this? And so they’re like, you got to go get yourself a chiropractic adjustment. I’m like, okay. So I went and I looked at a spot near my place. And I went in and I got adjusted for the first time and I was phenomenal. And and he adjusted me like one area. I forgot where I think it was my low back and like my lumbars. He adjusted me one area. I was like, okay, cool. I feel great. I feel loose. I felt lighter. Man, this is what it’s all about. I went back that day into my training and everything felt different. I mean, everything. Everything felt so different from my warmup to my lifts, my squat, my squat. My hips were straight. I mean, I felt like everything was activated. So I was blown away. Okay. Now, it’s not like I just automatically lifted like a thousand pounds more, but I felt the connection that I never felt before to my body. So you know, I was curious. I was like, Oh, what’s more? Like, what are the other things that this, you know, this treatment, this therapy, like offers, right? And I got to learn about that. That doctor actually did a RT active release technique. And so I was like, Hey, you know what? This is what I do. You know, I do this Olympic weightlifting thing. Can you help me out? Sure. You know, he did some ART on me. I had some areas that were just crazy tender and painful and tight. He helped me out with that. So that was great. You know, and I didn’t think about becoming chiropractor at all. I was in school and I was a personal trainer. That was my part time gig, wake up early, go to school and then like train people late at night. That was, that was like my hustle. I would just train people. I get them doing like burpees and get people thrown up and yelling at them. And like, you know, it was, it was, you know, being a personal trip. If you got some anger issues, like being a personal trainer, it’s really good. Now, I mean, you just get the yellow people and tell them to do hard stuff. And they pay you for it. That’s crazy. So I loved it for some reason. And, and then they, the company told me, Hey, like, you know, you’re, you’re studying this. You’re doing kinesiology, like at the school, you’re studying nutrition. Can you, can you do like some nutrition coaching for people? I’m like, sure, I guess let me go get a certification, got my, and I was super into nutrition. So started like doing some coaching for nutrition. And I really loved that. And then I worked at the school for a physical therapist, the school’s physical therapist. And she trained me on all the things like injuries and, you know, movement and rehabilitation and sort of the therapeutic side of movement. And so I love that too, you know, but I always felt like something was missing. I didn’t know whether I wanted to do physical therapy, personal training, strength and conditioning, train athletes. I didn’t know what I was going to do. I just know I wasn’t going to sit at a desk, you know, for most of my day. I wanted to, I wanted to be hands on. I wanted to be active. I wanted to live an active lifestyle. So you know, one of my professors was telling me, hey, you know, you should consider chiropractic. And I was like, oh, I mean, I never thought about that, but I guess I could, you know, I already, I already cracked my friends back. So yeah, how hard can this be? I can go do it for money, for sure. So I went to the local school. This was Palmer College of chiropractic West in San Jose, California. I went, that was the closest one. Literally same city. So I went there and I, and I went in for a, I don’t know if you call it an interview, but I went to check it out. And I asked the president, I was like, so, you know, this is my situation. All right, PT, all this other stuff. And why should I choose chiropractic? What’s so amazing about this profession? And he was like, well, you are essentially a primary care physician. You can run labs if you want. You can do nutrition if you want. And there’s just a whole host of techniques and therapies that are open to you that, you know, that’s not quite available to other types of professions, like, for instance, a physical therapist. And then also he talked to me about like how from the business perspective, right, most chiropractors are sort of on their own or they have, they’re small business owners, right? There’s an entrepreneurship component to it. So, you know, there’s no cap on it’s not like you just graduate and, you know, get hired at a hospital and then that’s about it for the rest of your life. So I was like, oh, great. That sounds like a great culture, you know, like I can totally get behind that. You know, as long as I can combine like, you know, therapy and like treatments with like nutrition and lifestyle, like, and helping people live a better life, I’m all in. All right. And so I thought I was just going to go in, right, crack people’s backs. And I know I say that right. I don’t say that now, but I used to say this, I go in, crack people’s backs and, you know, and just like rub under tissues. And I’m like, that’s, that’s the rest of my life. And I opened up a can of worms because on my first week there, I just, I came across there was it was club week, one of the clubs. Every there was, there’s all these other clubs, right? There’s all these clubs that are like in the hallway. There’s your, you know, I remember it was like motion palpation club. There’s rehab club. There’s this adjusting ninjas club. There’s all these different clubs, right? Pediatric clubs and whatnot. And then so this one club around the corner, right? You can’t even see it. It’s around the corner, right? At the very end, and it was applied kinesiology. And I go, kinesiology, hey, that’s my major. Like I’m just, I’m naturally born for this. Super good, you know, and I do Olympic weightlifting. What’s up? So I go over there and the, and the guy, and he’s my friend now, but he, he goes. So I ask him, I’m like, Hey, you know, like, you know, I graduated. I have a degree in this. So, you know, I think I’ll be pretty good at it. And he’s like, he put his hand on my shoulder. He’s like, you have no idea what you’re about to get into. I was like, what are you talking about? He was like, just show up next week during the club meeting show up. This guy did a, a plank and easy ologies all about muscle testing. He tested one of my hip flexors, the so as muscle, right? And it was, it was weak as hell. I mean, I could not hold it up. And I’m this guy who squats like for breakfast, right? Like twice my body weight type of thing, right? And more. And I’m just like, what the hell is going on? Like what, what the hell is going on? And he did this thing. And then like he adjusted me, adjusted my, adjusted my atlas and my ox put and turned the thing back on. And then, and then, and it went back to that feeling of my first adjustment, right? Where I just felt so connected, right? But it wasn’t that it wasn’t only that. And I’ve been adjusted before, but it was the, it was the connection. It was the, it was the realization of like, wow, there was something wrong on my body that you were able to show me. And I felt it. And it was something that was lacking, like in my, in what I typically do. And there was a change, right? We did something and then there was a change right away. And I felt it. And I, and I’ve always felt it after, after that. So it was that that got me so hooked into what I do now, which is applied kinesiology. Anyways, so, you know, long story short, that’s, that’s my chiropractic story. It was really just pure out of purely out of curiosity, really, I think. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): So form follows function. And when you got adjusted, you realize that something changed. And I think that that’s a part where most people when they’re, they’ll listen to this show, I end up like here, this conversation that we’re having about chiropractic and how you got into chiropractic is so many times people come in because they’re in pain, right? And they come in, they look at the chiropractor as their last ditch effort, their savior, like, what are you going to do? I’ve tried everything else. And you came into because you’re a curiosity and it actually made your functionality better. And that’s the thing I love about chiropractic is it doesn’t add anything extra to the body. It simply removes the interference and the body adapts. And then what you experienced was a high level of adaptation through muscle testing. And then you’re like, wow, that was pretty cool. How can I help more people with this, which I think is where we’re going next? So then you finish up at school, you get this applied kinesiology background on top of your kinesiology sports training. And then you said, okay, what am I going to do with my career? So you’ve been out of school. How long now? DR CALVIN NG DC (GUEST): I graduated in 2019. So for four years, four years. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): Yeah, I met you two years out. And four years later, tell me about your practice. DR CALVIN NG DC (GUEST): So my practice is pretty much 100% a muscle testing practice or kinesiology based practice. We treat the entire body. And I always like to say that because this was what we’re really resonant. And I didn’t learn this in school, by the way, my school Palmer West, right, at Palmer. And you said it earlier, which is like, subluxation based, right? We were not like the principal, the philosophy there, there was lack of philosophy, number one. And so we did not get to learn much about that. In fact, it was the culture there, the temperature there was sort of like you just, you bastardize it, that you made fun of it a little bit. You kind of like, you laughed at it and then you’re like, ah, that’s just some like old outdated stuff that people didn’t know what they were talking about. You know, we have MRI machines and next rays and all this other stuff. And then we referred to medical doctors. You know, that was like the climate there. I always kind of go, you know, I came from a family of my family. There’s medical doctors in my family. There’s my sisters, a PhD, psychologist, smart as hell. So you know, there’s some really smart people in my family. And but allopathic smart, you know, like mainstream medicine smart, like mainstream narrative and everything. So, you know, when I saw that, I was just like, yeah, that’s something doesn’t feel right. And so I talked to other students from other other places. I met some people from my life west, which is like the closest Chiro College to us, some people from life university in Atla…

LET’S HUSTLE !!! LUKE MILLETT (PRODUCER): Hey guys, welcome to episode 540 of the Chiro Hustle Podcast. I’m your producer, Luke Millett, and here’s your host, James Chester. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): So today we have the opportunity of interviewing Dr. Myron Brown. If you want to hear a conversation about Giddy Palmer in the book he’s writing, stay tuned. Welcome back! This is another episode of the Chiro Hustle Podcast. Today it is episode 540. Really excited to have Dr. Myron Brown coming on with me. I met him at the Palometto Chiropractic Association. I was out there giving a talk to the group there, and one of our team members, Duane Hoskin, says, hey, you got to go meet this Dr. Myron Brown guy, he’s working on this book, and he’s done a lot for chiropractic over the years. And Dr. Myron’s been practicing for 49 years. He said that he’ll be good maybe in one year when it turns 50 years in practice. But I let him tell that story. As we get into this episode, I just want to let everyone know the big why. Why do we do it? We do over here at Chiro Hustle. Well, first things first is the First Amendment. We protect freedom of speech. We’ve never censored anyone on this podcast and 4th of July we turned 6 years old. So that’s a long time of not censoring people. Really cool stuff. We also believe that there should be medical freedom and family health freedom. Those are things that we stand true with and they are not the same thing. One is for the family, one is for you, the person. So sovereignty of your body is your choice. And then we get into more philosophical stuff. I know we’re going to have a great philosophical conversation today. We’ll talk about the rotivo-subluxation centered model of chiropractic, which I think is really cool. And we stand behind that too. We protect and believe in subluxation based chiropractic. So that’s something. And I know that the rabbit holes deep with this one, but the sacred trust. We do believe in BJ Palmer’s last words and protecting the sacred trust and guardian at well. And then last, but not least. Inate intelligence and universal intelligence are two things that we really believe in. We believe that when man or woman, the physical gets adjusted, it connects them to man or woman, the spiritual. And with that, Dr. Mayan Brown, welcome to Chiro Hustle. DR MYRON BROWN DC (GUEST): Thank you so much. It’s good to be here with you, James. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): Yeah. First things first, 49 years in practice. What was the impetus for you to become a chiropractor? DR MYRON BROWN DC (GUEST): My brother is a chiropractor. He’s five years older than I am practices still today in right outside of Atlantic City, New Jersey. He was one of the individuals that graduated from a college that no longer exists in New York City. In fact, his last grad, his graduating class of 12 was the last class that they sent out of the chiropractic Institute of New York. And his preparation was very medically oriented, yet he knew something about chiropractic in that our father had had great improvement and health problems after getting under chiropractic care brought my brother to the chiropractic Institute of New York because it was close to where we lived in New Jersey. He went through there and after graduating, he was kind of a little bit of a lost soul, not knowing what he wanted to do and realizing his preparation as a chiropractor was somewhat substandard. So he didn’t have the enthusiasm that I was blessed to have after getting into practice, but he did know something about it and he ran into a fellow by the name of Reggie Gold. Now, Reggie, I’m sure some of your listeners have heard that name because he’s a giant amongst the philosophers of chiropractic. And although now deceased, many people still talk about Reggie, my brother took me to some meetings at Reggie’s house where he would feed you first in a cookout in the backyard. Then he would bring about 30 to 50 of us into his lecture room inside and he’d talk about chiropractic philosophy. And I went to a number of those meetings and my brother supported me through the idea of finding out about chiropractic. Then he also, by the way, my brother’s name is Marty Brown and he’s very well known on the East Coast as chiropractor, somewhat a little senior to myself. And so he took me to meet a few other people who were giants in the profession, took me to meet Joe Strauss, who was a young man just really breaking out in practice at that time. Joe Strauss wrote all those blue books that some of your listeners have, probably a lot of your listeners have seen in red. Also took me to meet a fellow by the name of Jim Ziggafus who listened to all my questions about what would you do if you had a real sick patient? And are you a real doctor? All those kind of novice questions. And I have all the right answers from these giants of chiropractic. So I enrolled at Palmer College in 1970, wanting to go to the best chiropractic school that existed in 1970. And at that time I enjoyed every minute there. But I must say I was a little disappointed because I thought all of what I was going to learn was like Reggie Gold and Jim Ziggafus and Joe Strauss and my brother and I found out, well actually they were trying to ape the medical profession even in 1970, which was only nine years after BJ Palmer had passed away. But they were in a big shift at that time. And so I got into the profession mildly disappointed about my education but still very enthusiastic about it. And during my senior year in Palmer, they started a new college down in South Carolina, Sherman College, and they were holding their first lysium. So I went down there and found out what that was all about. Met Tom Gelardi who Reggie introduced me to. Next thing you know I graduated a couple of weeks after that and I think three weeks after that I was on the faculty at Sherman. And so I was really wet behind the ears but full of enthusiasm trying to make up for what I didn’t know. And so that’s how I got into the profession. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): Does that answer your question? It does and it sparks me up with the funny question to follow that up with. What was the going rate for an adjustment when you got out of chiropractic college? DR MYRON BROWN DC (GUEST): Well first thing let me tell you my tuition at Palmer was $400 a quarter at the time. So a whole lot less than when I graduated I had just a tiny bit of student loan debt. But it measured out to about I think around $2,000 and that was because of my undergraduate, not because of my chiropractic education. I believe and I’m really scratching cobwebs to answer this accurately. But I believe that when I first started to practice it was somewhere around eight or nine dollars a visit and that was the going rate. So I think that’s changed a little since then. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): Yeah it’s just a fun thing for me to hear because I interviewed a gentleman earlier named Lee Newman and he was the second generation chiropractor and he grew up with his dad and he’s like I remember when my dad was doing $4 adjustments. DR MYRON BROWN DC (GUEST): Well you know we have a fascinating history in this profession and the more you look into it the more interesting it becomes. I remember one time I was traveling and visiting with Carl Cleveland president of Cleveland College and he was telling me about how his grandparents and trying to think I think even to some extent his parents practiced with a jail bag by the door because they didn’t know when they might get arrested. So we have a colorful profession. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): Yeah I’m sure you’ve seen a lot of regulatory agencies come through the profession and different types of standardizations of how we produce chiropractors and different models. So I know that you’re working on something right now. It’s relatively new you were saying called the International Agency for Chiropractic Evaluation. Would you mind gleaning on some of the construct of that for us? DR MYRON BROWN DC (GUEST): Sure and there’s probably some of the chiropractors listening that are aware of this but I would suspect most are not because this is an emerging accrediting agency. It is an agency devoted toward academic excellence in the field of vertebral subluxation education. So the goal is simply to try to educate chiropractors to deliver the highest possible vertebral subluxation centered care. That is not in competition whether opposed to anything else going on in this profession or any other but what it does that no other agency is interested in or capable of doing is it focuses on expertise needed to evaluate a vertebral subluxation centered education program. And so we’ve been developing this for a number of years but if I get too far a field just pull me back but I would want to mention this is although emerging as an accrediting agency it’s not a brand new thing. The international agency for chiropractic evaluation actually started in 2001 and at that time it was started not to be an accrediting body but to be a testing agency. There was a contact made by the people who lead the national association of chiropractors in Argentina and they don’t have a recognized profession in their country and what they had been doing is they’ve been training chiropractors who were practicing under other healthcare licenses and in addition to what they studied in the various medical fields they were then adding study postgraduate level in chiropractic. There was nobody overseeing that and they wanted proficiency tests so they contacted Tom Jelardi who was then the president of Sherman College and they asked him if he could help them to put together an appropriate proficiency test for already practicing chiropractors in Argentina. So I was assigned that job of bringing the expertise together. At that time and I’ll reach a couple of the names that I wrote down that wanted to not fail to mention who the founders of the agency were but Crowder from Davenport, Iowa is a giant in the field of upper cervical chiropractic. He was a friend and mentor to me for many years sadly now deceased. He was one of the founders of IACE. Joe Strauss who I mentioned before was founder Ralph Boone who was a researcher as well as a former college president at the Southern California College of Chiropractic and also served as president of the New Zealand College of Chiropractic. Irene Gold who is very well known in our profession as an individual who helps people to prepare for national boards. Dan Coon who was the chair of the Board of Trustees of the Southern California College of Chiropractic and Russ Grazier who was a member of the New Hampshire Board of Examiners and myself. So with this particular level of expertise we put together tests and they were administered on a number of occasions in Argentina. More than 100 people have successfully passed that test and it was used as a preliminary or a prerequisite to entrance into an accredited university program teaching what was called a diplimatura, a postgraduate level program in Chiropractic in Argentina. So we started out with IACE being strictly a testing agency. And quite a few years later in 2012 another group of experts in Chiropractic education got together and formed something called the sustainability group. Not well known but have been working diligently for more than 10 years now as a think tank. They’re not an association that you can go and join. They’re looking at the state of the profession and trying to find out what we can do to advance Vertebral Subluxation Center training and practice. Let me mention the names of this very diverse group of experts in Chiropractic education. Amongst, well the first one I’ve already mentioned was Tom Gelardi again the founder of Sherman College was one of the founders of the sustainability group. D.D. Humber, longtime vice president of Life University. Christopher Kent, currently one of the administrators in the research area at Sherman College. Bill Decken, longtime faculty member at Sherman College. Serge Sautre, former assistant to the president at Life University under Sid Williams. And Felicia Stewart, a practitioner as well as a member of the faculty of the Academy of Chiropractic philosophers. So this group, the sustainability group was studying the problems of the profession. And what they determined was that there is a cartel that controls and coordinates everything going on in the profession to keep it more medically or condition centered, medically oriented, but while I’m not out to necessarily tear down that group, I would point out that their interest in vertebral subluxation is minimal if at all, but they do not evaluate vertebral subluxation. So the sustainability group looked at that and they studied other problems of the profession for three years, problems that led to the non-proliferation of vertebral subluxation-minded chiropractors. And they said, this can’t go on if we’re going to have sustainability. And so they, after studying it, they came to the conclusion that we need an accrediting body. So I’m talking all about how did IAC come about as an accrediting agency? They contacted the IAC after consulting with experts in Washington, D.C., about accreditation. They even had consultation with the leadership of the CCE, which is the other specialized accrediting agency. And everybody came to the same conclusion. You guys need an accrediting body that looks at vertebral subluxation. And so they contacted IAC and I brought this request to the board of IAC that we form an accrediting body. In 2012, that was passed by resolution. And since that time, we have been doing all of the legwork that it takes from the ground up to create an accrediting agency. And so now we are out there emerging. And as of approximately one week ago, we had the first college apply for official status. And that happens to be one of the finest existing chiropractic colleges, the New Zealand College of Chiropractic, has officially applied for status with IAC and we’re in conversation with several others, but we’ll see what happens there. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): So this leads me to further curiosity. Does this mean that when somebody gets their diploma that they can pass your test and have the equivalency to go practice in…

Dr. Lee A. Newman is a second-generation Chiropractor and a June 1986 graduate of Life University, School of Chiropractic in Marietta, GA. Dr. Lee practiced hands-on for 24 in the Southside community of Pittsburgh, PA establishing one of the largest practices in the area. In order to reach even more people with the Chiropractic message Dr. Lee has worked with associate doctors since 1988 and helped them to establish and successfully purchase 16 offices since 1997. Dr. Lee has also worked with hundreds of clients helping them grow to over 200 visits a week becoming Chiropractic Warriors. Many have then gone on to the next step of integrating associates into their practices successfully. Being a second-generation DC, Dr. Lee has been around the profession his entire 60+ years. “I was the kid whose school nurse needed permission to give me an aspirin”, remembers Dr. Lee. I can also remember my father’s 25th reunion at Logan College in St. Louis in 1974. (1959 Grad) As a wealth of knowledge on being a successful clinician and business person, Dr. Lee is eager to speak to any DC wishing to grow their practice. LET’S HUSTLE !!! LUKE MILLETT (PRODUCER): Hey guys, welcome to episode 539 of the Chiro Hustle Podcast. I’m your producer, Luke Mullett, and here’s your host, James Chester. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): So today we have the opportunity of interviewing Dr. Lee Newman. If you want to hear a conversation about mindset and practice growth with associates, stay tuned. Welcome back to this another episode of the Chiro Hustle Podcast. They have Dr. Lee Newman coming on. Really excited for this episode 539. I always joke around, but I say, can you guys believe that I can? Actually, we turned six years old, July 4th. Pretty cool. I’m really excited for the show that we’ve been producing, and Dr. Lee Newman is going to share with us today. Concepts on mindset. I think that a big takeaway from people will be practice growth associates, which is a program that he offers, and then Money Mastery. I think that there’s a lot of things when people talk about chiropractic. I know when I first started going to chiropractic events, there are a couple faux pas. People are like, you can’t talk about money, you can’t talk about patient value. I’m like, why not? That’s chiropractic business. We’re going to talk about some of that stuff today. Before we get into this episode, I’m going to let people know our big why. Why do we do what we do? Well, the First Amendment is important. We’ve never censored anyone on this. The First Amendment means freedom of speech. That’s really a value add is we stand in the gap and allow people to share their truth, specifically about chiropractic. We also support and believe in medical health freedom and family health freedom. They’re not the same things. Everyone involves your family. What involves you? I think that in order to understand those things, we have to understand chiropractic and how chiropractic plays a role to both of those. Then philosophically standing, we protect and believe in BG Palmer’s last words. That is the sacred trust. Please protect the sacred trust. If you don’t know what that means, go to your favorite search engine right now and go and find BG Palmer’s last words. You’re going to learn so much more about chiropractic than you previously did. Then as it goes on, we do support the Subluxation Base Chiropractor, which I think should not have to be said. We do have to say that because some of the schools are converting out of the languaging of this beautiful profession. Then two more of them. Actually I spoke over in England, Dr. Lee. They said you can say anything you want or you can talk about chiropractic, but you can’t talk about inate intelligence or universal intelligence. Otherwise, you won’t be allowed back to the university. I said, okay. Just want to let you guys know that the school asked me not to speak about inate intelligence or universal intelligence, so we’ll get that out of the way. We do believe that when a man or woman in the physical gets adjusted, it connects them the physical to the spiritual, which is universal intelligence. With that being said, Dr. Lee Newman, welcome to the show. DR LEE NEWMAN DC (GUEST): Well, thank you very much. I really appreciate you having me. Let me just start off by thanking you and acknowledging you as one of the very few people that is supportive to the profession. It’s one of my rants. It’s why docs that we need to do it for ourselves because no one else will do it for us. Jim has spent now his professional career assisting the practicing chiropractor and think about how rare that is. I want to acknowledge and thank you. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): In a career where not many people acknowledge or see or approach, I really appreciate that because it’s been, once again, I’ll be in my 15th year. As an advocate and a non-cairpractor, I knew that there was something special about this profession. I said, if I can just start getting more content out to the general public, how do we do that? I was like, well, make some movies, go out there and do sales, make a podcast. We’re definitely riding the wave and I think that it’s just going to get better and better for chiropractic. Awesome. So second generation chiropractor, you’ve been doing this thing for quite some time. How was it for you growing up in a chiropractic family? DR LEE NEWMAN DC (GUEST): I think that it was very interesting on several different fronts. So first, I went to public schools, but I was the kid where the nurse knew that she couldn’t just give me an aspirin or it was weird or my 10th grade chemistry teacher, he was the guy that asked, why don’t I want to be a real dog? I need a special permission from the high school guidance counselor to be able to take classes at the University of Pittsburgh my senior year and she personally knew my father and gave me a hard time. So it was a standout, it was a one off. At the same time, the time that I spent in my father’s office, it was a tremendous lesson mostly through osmosis of just watching him take care of person after person after person and even back in the 70s, the goal was to see 100 people a day, five days a week. In fact, we ate dinner at five o’clock every night and on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays, my father would go back to the office for the 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. shift. And so this was before any type of insurance existed and I remember back to $4 adjustments and I absolutely remember $7 adjustments. I just turned 60 so I’ve been in it since I was conceived but have active memories into the early 70s. In fact, I can remember going to Logan, my father’s a 59 graduate of Logan, he went to his 25th reunion in 1974 and I was at that and I went to many continuing ed seminars with him. So it was an interesting childhood. But it led me, how I ended up, after Little League didn’t work out and I joke about it but it’s true and I wasn’t going to be a major league baseball player, there was nothing else I wanted to be. And because I accelerated my education, I was graduated and then in my own practice by myself, I was 23 and that was 37 years ago in two weeks. So that office which is still running will start its 38th year in two weeks and that was July of 1986. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): Yeah, from historical context to what is the date today, the 27th of June 2023, you’ve helped transition and sell 16 practices during that time and I know one of the things that you do is help with associates. So let’s talk to people about that unique thing that you do when it comes to helping chiropractors establish longevity of their careers. DR LEE NEWMAN DC (GUEST): So here’s what I believe is that A, you should create something that’s worth replicating and in the real world, I define that as a 200 visit a week practice, if you’re good at algebra like me, 50 weeks of 200 is 10,000 visits a year and so it makes the math easy and so if you were to collect $60 a visit, that would be $600,000 a year and more or less depending on what you collect per visit but let’s use 60 as a low medium number and so that’s certainly worth something worth reproducing. And so at that point, if you’re that doc, I think that there’s basically three main challenges. One is working with the right docs and that is the entire, I don’t want to say game, but it’s the entire issue with successfully working with associates. So being able to find an interview more than just the random person occasionally to create a recruiting system that you’re speaking to multiple docs kind of all the time and to take them through a interview process that you have a much higher certainty on of whether this candidate is the doc that you’re looking to work with. I would argue that there are many different types of anything, different types of docs and it doesn’t mean that those docs can’t be successful elsewhere but the docs that you have the ability to work with successfully and help, I think, I call it Mr. Propate Ed, what’s the right ears and mouth and nose or the right characteristics of your associates? For example, how do they take care of patients? Generically speaking, how many visits do they think the average patient needs before supportive or maintenance care, right? It connects them geographically into your area and you can make a lifestyle argument for any area depending on preferences, right? Three is, again, how they work in a team and in an environment to make it all happen. So hiring the right docs. The second major challenge is how do we train the docs and I believe that there is a reproducible system for anybody in the practices for both docs and CAs to learn how to do each and every task. And so it’s a matter of identifying what the necessary tasks are and then creating a standard operating procedure that we can teach to this case associates. For example, how do you do a day one? How do you do a regular office visit? What should that look like? The thing that we’re going to do dozens, hundreds of times a day, and a 200 visit a week practice, you’re probably going to have a day near 50 visits a day once a week at least. And so how do we do that without breaking the system? What are the standard operating procedures and making that happen? Third, right? The third major challenge is proper management. And again, I would encourage any business owner, certainly the chiropractic practice business owner, the practicing chiropractor that owns his or her own practice, you should read the e-myth revisited by Michael Gerber. Briefly stated, he says all small business people are entrepreneurs. We’ve invested our time, effort, money and expect a return that were technicians, in our case, being the doctor. And then third, being the business manager, and I would argue that it is the business manager that we were never taught to be that is our weakest skills. And so how can we connect our mission, changing the world once fine and nervous system at a time? How can we connect that to my six most important tasks today? So what’s the vision? What’s the goals? What’s the battle plan? What’s got done yesterday? And what are we focused on today? And so to have this management in place so that day after day, week after year after year and now decade after decade to service large numbers of people to change communities and to change the world once fine and nervous system at a time. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): Well I really love the strategic plan and how you have been able to help multiple docs, build their careers and build their businesses and understand their roles within that. I guess I have a couple questions about growth. Number one I guess is about bringing on staff and not only that but the associate. Do you believe in the old tried and true statement of higher slow and fire fast? DR LEE NEWMAN DC (GUEST): Yes and so I have a Newman axillary right and so I am sure it is not new news that the world of chiropractic management has this common knowledge and like you know there’s a one day, two day, four day, three day new patient intake. Genearically it’s all the same and I would argue mastering any can lead to success but each of us have contributed individual new into the pot and so my saying is that no chiropractor has ever fired an employee too soon right and so we think that we can improve and like if the CA just did this or that or the associated so and we have this big heart for service and for connection that we think that we can help the person through but people are who they are by their results and so I would have definitive road maps of like here’s where I expect to be by when and certainly for any new employee 90 days is certainly an important mile post and the employee is either succeeded or not and if they’re close to not and you think that you can help them in the next 30 absolutely the 60 days maybe I stay invested but if not then we need to move on and again so we’ve never fired anybody too soon. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): I love it I think it’s really important for people to understand their methods behind the energetic shift in the people around them like there’s so much that goes into the energy of output and people can be checked out all day and be sitting there but they’re not producing. DR LEE NEWMAN DC (GUEST): That’s the worst their bodies still show up but the rest of them has invariably docks out there ask yourself if you heard this like after you got rid of an employee even short-handed without replacing the employee the practice grew by 15 visits right and 15 visits is enormous growth for doing nothing. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): Yeah except for removing an energetic disconnect. The bad juju yeah. So let’s talk new patients I know that you help grow your offices and they do a lot of different things for marketing what would you recommend like somebody that upstarts with you with your practice growth associates program. DR LEE NEWMAN DC (GUEST): And so I think about marketing in five silos and so the game here is to develop the five or six strategies that you personally are going to attempt to execute on here’s the five silos right one is internal and so having the messaging the branding the in office the emails the communication to our patient base to our email list to people that know us to dramatically increase referrals to is corporate events and it’s so it’s to reach out to people at work right so I like to work with nursing homes not for their residents for people that get paychecks I like to work in schools not for students for anyone that gets a paycheck there. I like to work in any company near my office and defining like what the right you know it’s between eight and thirty employees are more or less and they’re in this location and and they have this attitude right so defining that the filter is important but second is to have corporate events talks screenings health fairs ergonomic checks whatever else the company might want third silo is public events right and so there are still. In the you know the right public events to attend and so you going back to Alaska this year for the big screening absolutely what is that the state fair or state fair yeah right and so every July in fact it started the Monday after the fourth of July and so this would be the latest week possible because the fourth is actually o…

LET’S HUSTLE !!! LUKE MILLETT (PRODUCER): Hey guys, welcome to episode 538 of the Chiro Hustle Podcast. I’m your producer, Luke Millett, and here’s your host, James Chester. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): So today we have the opportunity of interviewing Dr. Stephen Hussey. If you want to hear a story about heart health and what people fear the most, stay tuned. Welcome back. This is another episode of the Chiro Hustle Podcast. Today, I have Dr. Stephen coming in from Roanoke, Virginia, and I’m really excited to have him on to the show. This is episode 538 of the Chiro Hustle Podcast. Before we jump into this episode, I’m going to let you guys know our big why. How do we do what we do over here at Chiro Hustle? Well, I should have this tattoo to my body somewhere because I say it so much. First Amendment, we stand for freedom of speech. I think that’s really important. We’ve never censored anybody on this platform. And as people know, our show has had its issues with social media outlets, including YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram. So I just ask anybody that’s watching this to do us a favor and share the show. Share the show to your audience so more people can understand what Chiro Pratic is. Share this to your Facebook. Share this to your LinkedIn. Share this to your email list. And if you’re watching this, I just ask you guys to once again, share the show. But the First Amendment is really important to us. So we support the First Amendment, which is freedom of speech. We also support medical freedom and family health freedom. They’re not the same things. So just understand that we should all have freedom of choices to how we take care of our families and our personal body. And more Chiro practically speaking, we do protect the sacred trust. If you don’t know what the sacred trust is, go and search for BJ Palmer’s last words. Go and search for BJ Palmer’s sacred trust. You’re going to learn more about Chiro Pratic than you previously did. I guarantee you. And then we support self-luxation based Chiro Pratic. I know I shouldn’t have to say that, but I know that they’re really taking that type of languaging out of the schools and universities that teach Chiro Pratic. So if you’re at a Chiro Pratic school, take this episode and share it to all your classmates so they can understand that Chiro Pratic is alive and well and the language is here to stay. And then lastly, we believe in in-intelligence and universal intelligence. We believe that when man or woman, the physical is adjusted, it connects them to man or woman to spiritual. And with that being said, that’s our introduction. And Dr. Stephen, welcome to the show. DR STEPHEN HUSSSEY MS DC (GUEST): Thanks for having me. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): Thank you. Yeah. Today, we’re going to talk about the power of the adjustment. We’re also going to talk about some up and coming speaking gigs that you have that I’m really excited for you to talk about. One of them being Chiro Congress and you’re going to be speaking about the state association too. So we’ll plug those two as we have our conversation today. But I’m always interested. Your Chiro Pratic story. And you know, this is a way for you to reintroduce yourself to your friends, your family, your colleagues and your patients. So if they haven’t heard your story in a long time, let’s tell everybody how you got into this beautiful profession. DR STEPHEN HUSSSEY MS DC (GUEST): Yeah. I mean, I can’t say that it’s anything too inspiring or impressive, but it’s, you know, I was always taken to Chiro Prackers as a kid by my parents and my dad, you know, lived down the street from their family, Chiro Prackers. So they were very familiar with it. So, you know, when I, you know, as a young child, I was like two years old, my dad noticed me like wheezing and coughing. And he was just like, oh, I think he has asthma just like I had and like, let’s take him to the Chiro Pr Pr Pr sort of position. I thought, you know, chiropractic sounds good. I’ve always been to chiropractors. They always helped me. And so that’s the direction. I had no idea there was any difference between the schools or any difference in philosophy. Still don’t really care that there is. I just want to, you know, promote health in a way that’s best for humanity. And so I guess that’s how I interpret chiropractors, what chiropractors are supposed to do. So yeah, I went to chiropractic school. And, but I also think that my story is one of curiosity. And I think that, you know, a more chiropractic philosophy kept me curious. And, but I think that what I learned in formal education is nothing compared to what I’ve learned based on my curiosity. And so that’s what I guess initially made me think, oh, maybe chiropractic, not medical school, because of that curiosity of why I was never told these things by medical doctors. But also what I understand as health, I think comes from that curiosity and always asking questions, never being satisfied with the formal answers I get to my questions. So yeah. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): Yeah, you know, I think your story is not uncommon. You know, I know that kids and babies in chiropractic are like a huge thing. And there’s a lot of groups out there, the ICPA, started by Larry Webster, and the Webster’s technique and kids getting adjusted. And I love when your story started, because, you know, a lot of times people don’t understand that like the that kids can get adjusted to, and you don’t have to be in pain, or you don’t have to be at a certain age. Like, I can’t tell you how many times I go out and do a marketing event. And somebody’s like, hope I don’t ever need you. You know, and they’re so like, there’s such a disconnect with the understanding of that you don’t have to have a symptom to have a chiropractic adjustment. And you don’t have to have some type of pain in order to be checked, your spine checked by a chiropractor to make sure your nervous system’s functioning optimally. Like, so many times when people think about kids, they’re like, why would I take a kid to the chiropractor? There’s nothing wrong with them. But I think it’s really cool. It’s how your story started. And you’re a little kid and your parents took it to the chiropractor, because it’s the thing to do. Yeah, at least in my dad’s world, that was the thing you did. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, it’s really cool, because that gives people like a firm or understanding. I always tell people on the show chiropractic is good from first breath to last breath, you know, and it’s good for cradle to grave care. As chiropracts will say from womb to tomb, you know, it’s it’s it’s something that’s really important to the fundamentals of a chiropractic lifestyle is to make sure that the full family is healthy. And we don’t fall into sickness, disease, and infirmary, and where the body is is in a state of disease. We want to say we want to put people on a path that that doesn’t become their normal. For sure. Yeah. So let’s talk about this this chiropractic adjustment. What does it do to people? What does DR STEPHEN HUSSSEY MS DC (GUEST): how does it help people? Well, yeah, I read a lot of stuff and I’m really obsessed with understanding, you know, physiology and how it actually works. And I think that there’s a lot of things that are conventional wisdom of a physiology that I I don’t think are true. One of them, like being the hardest the movement of the blood in the body, which is not but another being how a chiropractic adjustment affects us, how it creates health, because, you know, it’s attributed to like, you know, spine in line, feel fine kind of thing, take pressure off the nervous system, create motion and joints that motion is helping cartilage move and stay healthy. And all that could very possibly be true. But I think there’s another component to it that helps me understand more about how a chiropractic adjustment is creating health. So there’s this there’s this concept of coherence. And coherence is just when all aspects of a living system are linked up in sync, communicating with each other as a whole to do what’s best in the interest of the living thing as a whole. And this can be applied to, you know, my my living system that is me, or it could be applied to ecosystems, communities, lots of things, everything linked up doing what’s best as a whole. I think of like a, you know, pack of 150 humans that’s trying to survive as a pack of 150 humans, and they’re all doing what’s best for society as a whole. And that happens in the body, or it should be happening in the body, we should have coherence. And so the number one way that we create coherence is increasing communication of the body. Okay, and so there’s lots of different ways of the body can communicate. And so it’s not very well known that the fascia system of the fascia system of the body, the tinsigrity system, the interstitium, the, you know, it’s kind of like this web of connective tissue that holds us together. And it is collagen protein, most abundant protein in the body. And that, you know, it penetrates all the way down to the level of the DNA in the cell through the integrins that penetrate the cell all the way up to, you know, more gross fascia, like the bone in the skin, things like that. And this fascia has the ability, it’s actually, when you look at the physics of it, it’s a semiconductor. So it can conduct information. And so collagen, bibles can conduct electrons, protons, photons, phonons throughout the entire system. And this conduction is actually faster than the nervous system, a lot faster. And so the ability of our fascia to, you know, communicate the entire body is incredibly important for creating coherence, because that’s what’s creating this, this communication, this, this in sync, this oscillation between the entire body. And so unfortunately, and hydration of the collagen is very important, because every collagen fireball has hydrated, was structured water around it. And that, you think about like the myelin sheath, right? It’s, it’s what enhances the conduction of the information. And so unfortunately, we can get scar tissue in the body. And scar tissue is not normal collagen tissue. It’s more densely packed and it’s so densely packed that it cannot be hydrated. And so the hydration is very important for that conduction. And so when it’s so tightly packed, we get this area that’s interfering with the signaling. And so, you know, if we get that interference anywhere in the body, like we can all feel scar tissue in the muscle, doesn’t feel like normal tissue, right? Scar tissue in the heart after heart attack, that interferes with conduction of the signal for the heart to beat or contract. And so we can get this scar tissue in there and we get it in our spine quite often because of the load that our spine takes throughout life. And so one of the ways that we can increase this conduction again is to provide mechanical stress to that. And so this creates a piezoelectric force, which is the creation of electricity pretty much because when you put mechanical force into any tissue in the body, bone, ligament, tendon, whatever, collagen, the fascia, it actually creates like a battery situation, you know, puts the positive and negative charges away from it and that creates electricity. So when we do that to the spine, we create this mechanical stress or this morphological change with a lot of the, that’s what it says in a lot of the research papers. It kind of rearranges the collagen fibers, allows them to become become hydrated, which one of the ways that we hydrate collagen is providing the right light to the water in the body. So that’s why low level light therapy works, but infrared is probably the most absorbed by water. But this creates this coherence and there’s plenty of evidence that not just collagen and connect tissue is not just present in bone and connective tissue type things, but it’s also everywhere, including nervous system tissue. So the ability of the nervous system to conduct information throughout the body is dependent on healthy collagen. And when we adjust the spine, we are providing this mechanical stress, this piezoelectric force that allows the rearranging of collagen that then becomes hydrated. But the other thing is that I found evidence that when we, you know, do chiropractic manipulation, we also create light, so low level or they call it ultra weak photonic emission through collagen. So this is infrared light, which is not on the visible spectrum, but it’s more heat, as well as an electromagnetic field, which are all things that are communicated through collagen. This is the semiconductor of collagen. And so when we do this, we’re creating communication pretty much, we’re allowing the body to communicate again as a whole. So rather than one tissue thinking it’s over here secluded, it realizes or recognizes that it’s part of a whole and it does what’s best for the whole, whereas you can imagine a tissue that thinks it’s on its own, it’s going to do what’s best for it. That could be maybe a situation sort of like cancer. And so the take home here is that is that when we increase this communication, we’re increasing coherence. And the number one way that we measure coherence in the body is heart rate variability. It is, you know, we, a heart is our, you know, emotional sensing organ. It’s measuring the ability of the body to communicate and the heart is the only organ that has a high enough electromagnetic field that it can communicate to every cell in the body if we have coherence. And so increasing that coherence improves heart rate variability. And if you look at the research on chiropractic and heart rate variability, obviously, it’s very, very profound. There’s, you know, tons and tons of studies showing that when we get chiropractic care and we get it consistently, our heart rate variability is higher because we’re increasing creating coherence. And so this not only increases the health of our bodies as an individual, but when people are in coherence, they’re more likely to connect with other people and create more of coherence as a whole, like in a community or in a whole ecosystem. And so that’s to me, you know, the, the, a bridge version of, you know, what chiropractic means to me and what the chiropractic adjustment does and how powerful that can be. Let’s hustle! LUKE MILLETT (PRODUCER): Hey guys, welcome to episode 537 of the Chiro Hustle Podcast. I’m your producer, Luke Millett, and here’s your host, James Chester. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): So today we had the opportunity of interviewing a good friend of mine Dr. Peter Kevorkian coming in from Massachusetts. Today we discuss his 40 years of service to the profession. Hey, Peter. How are you doing? DR PETER KEVORKIAN DC (GUEST): Phenomenal. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): Yeah, man. I’m really happy to have you here. You’re episode 537. LUKE MILLETT (PRODUCER): Wow. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): Yeah. You know, I say, can you believe that? I say, I can, because I’ve done all of them. DR PETER KEVORKIAN DC (GUEST): But it’s a true testament, Jim, to your commitment to our profession. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): Oh, thank you. I love it. Yeah. I stand in the gap for truth. I love it. When a lot of people get disillusioned or afraid, I double down. So I think we’re going to have a really good conversation today about chiropractic. We’re going to focus on getting out of your head and into your heart, telling the chiropractic story what that means, and getting outside of your office and becoming a servant for the profession, not just being a servant over the tables, which is important also. But before we jump into this powerful episode of the Chiro Hustle Podcast, I want to let everyone know our big why. Why do we do what we do over here? And why do I stand in the gap for chiropractic? Well, first things first is freedom of speech. We stand for the First Amendment. If you guys need a refresh on that, go and search First Amendment. You’re going to learn a whole lot more about why freedom of speech is important to all of us. And then we can go into the lateral move of medical freedom and family health freedom. They’re not the same thing. But chiropractic has stood firmly for both of those stances within the free world that we live in. So God bless the chiropractic profession for staying for family health freedom and medical freedom. We always say, cradle to grave care, womb to tomb, first breath, the last breath, however you want to position it. But then we also support BJ Palmer Sacred Trust. If you don’t know what that is, go to your favorite surgeon engine right now, pause this interview and go and find out what BJ Palmer’s last words were or what BJ Palmer Sacred Trust is. And you’re going to learn more about chiropractic than you ever knew previously. And then we do support public station based chiropractic. It is something that’s inside of the lexicon and the language, you know, this profession. It may be a historical reference and context, but it’s still true today. And then we go into any intelligence, universal intelligence. We believe that when man or woman, the physical gets adjusted, it connects them to man or woman, the spiritual. And with that being said, Dr. Peter, welcome to show. It’s an honor to be here. Yeah. Awesome. So you’ve been in this profession 40 years. Yeah, I know. DR PETER KEVORKIAN DC (GUEST): Not an practicing 40 years. I’ve been in the profession longer than that. So 44 years, 45 years. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): So 45 46 years ago, why did you say I’m going to go to become a chiropractor? DR PETER KEVORKIAN DC (GUEST): So I was in undergraduate school, I was actually a freshman in college in engineering school. And that’s when I started chiropractic care. And I was under care maybe six, nine months or so. And it was at a time it was about halfway through my first semester. No, it had to have been a fall of my freshman year. No, that’s when I started care. So it had to do later in my freshman year, but before the end of my freshman year, I was seriously considering other professions. As much as I loved engineering, I loved math, I loved science. I was doing great in school, but as I looked at engineers, I said, I don’t know if I want to be sitting behind a desk all day long. And so I started to consider other things, everything from education to healthcare to healthcare was none of the job list at the time, business. And one day I was on the chiropractic table getting adjusted and I asked my chiropractor, who was Dr. Cordima, I said, it seems so haphazard, what do you do? Because the old time chiropractor moved them balls. I’d be lying placed down at the table, he’d walk into the room and you do his analysis of poom, poom, poom. I mean, he like moved those bones, old time chiropractors. And one time I asked him, I said, do you know what you’re doing? He goes, no, poom, poom, poom, poom, brings the table up and says, do you know what you doing? He says, what I do know is that when I give you an adjustment, it lets your body work better. It lets the in-board intelligence of your body better connect with the physiology and let your body do better. So what I don’t know is what’s going to happen when I do that. I don’t know if your back pain is going to get better, the headache is going to go away, the headache, if you’re going to breathe better, if your sex life is going to change, I don’t know what’s going to happen, I just know that it’s going to be better. So I don’t know what I’m doing, but I do know what an adjustment does. He walks out of the room. And that was, he was at a point that I was really looking at what career I wanted to say. He’s intriguing. So the next time I go to get checked and get adjusted, he adjusts me, poom, poom, I turn out, I said, I didn’t want to do this. And brings the table up. As the longest time, I don’t think he ever spent with me, starts telling me what it takes to go to chiropractic school. And then I started my pursuit of trying to understand and learn about the profession, read as much as I could. In fact, then it was very, very little. By the end of my freshman year, I did decide that this is what I wanted to do as a career. So the remainder of my time in undergraduate school, I did my prerequisites. So I graduated chiropractic school and then about six months later, nine months later, I started Palmer College in 1979. Davenport, Iowa. Davenport, Iowa. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): Yeah. Well, not to let the cat out of the bag, but I was one. So I was in Davenport at the same time you were there. Because I grew up in Davenport, Iowa. I don’t know if you knew that. I know that. Yeah. That’s my hometown. Wow. I’m a BJ Palmer’s water. Yeah. DR PETER KEVORKIAN DC (GUEST): Well, you know, it was a huge transition. I think you sacrificed a lot to go to chiropractic school, everything from parental expectations, friendships, relationships, money, money, you know, to go to school. And the best decision I ever made. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): Amen. Well, a lot of people that watch our show know that I went out and I did 600 chiropractic screenings in 36 months. When I met people out there, I would tell people similar to what the doc told you. I’d say, I don’t know what’s going on in your body because I don’t live in your body, but I know one thing. If you get under chiropractic care and you stick with it, we can help you. And it gives people that quotient of trust and hope. And it lets them believe in themselves again. 100%. And I think a lot of times when people get mixed up in like the mainstream systems, that they don’t really understand the potential of their body to heal itself. They think that there has to be a pill, a potion or a lotion that they’re going to be able to use that’s going to make them healthier because that’s what’s been perpetuated to them through all commercial outlets. And you know, I think that that’s what the general population thinks. So when we go get to grain and we talk about innate intelligence, like that doesn’t mean anything to anybody. And I know that one of the major premises of today’s interview is to tell the story. So I’m curious, what does telling the story mean to you and how can other people learn how to tell the story? DR PETER KEVORKIAN DC (GUEST): Great. That’s a great question. We can spend hours on that one. The story is basically that the body is a self-healing, self-regulating organism that has within it this amazing life force that not only knows how to keep you free of symptoms and disease, but allows your body to express itself to its fullest potential. And that there’s wisdom that runs the body that lives in every cell, utilizes the brain and the nervous system as its primary control system. And that system can become injured or damaged through this phenomenon that we refer to as a self-luxation. Interrupting its own self-regulating mechanisms, interrupting the brain’s ability to perceive the body or the brain’s ability to control the body, bodily function, and it’s less than optimal. And what a chiropractor does is an analysis of the spine to provide a spinal adjustment that allows the body to become free of nerve interference and allows the nervous system to fully control and coordinate the function of the body. So that in one intelligible body can fully express itself and allows us to be totally healthy and well in expressing our fullest potential. That’s the story. Yet you don’t tell the story that way. If you walk up to somebody on the street and you tell the story that way after about 15 seconds, maybe 10, maybe 5, the brain will shut down. So telling the story has many facets to it. And how and where and when you tell the story, depending on where you are, is going to change how much of the story that you’re going to tell, if you will. My usual means, if I’m in some place that is not where I’m going looking for patients if you will, I’m in a grocery store, I’m in a wedding or somebody says, somehow they find out in the car. Oh, chiropractor. Oh, you must see a lot of old people or whatever. My means of education telling the story is to create some pattern interrupt, some interruption of what they think they know about what it is that I do. And I said, well, in my practice, it’s mostly infants and babies. And they take that. Mostly infants and babies. Why? I said, well, many people think that what chiropractors do is take care of old people, back pain and headaches. But the real magic of chiropractic is keeping the body functioning optimally. Now, the worst damages that occur very often happen to the spine at the birth process, even sometimes before birth. So checking a baby at birth by a chiropractor allows that body to be as healthy as it possibly JAMES CHESTER (HOST): can be. DR PETER KEVORKIAN DC (GUEST): So it says some sort of interruption of the pattern for me to open the door in their brain that might allow them to have more information. Usually, I won’t even go into the spiel without saying, yeah, I take care of lots of infants and babies. Has he? She’s got bad backs. Do I want to explain it to you? And lastly, is you want education? You’re going to say yes. And rather than just be puking on them, I’d rather just ask questions. If there’s a space in time to do that, do you want to have a conversation about it? Because you want me to just tell you, they’ll have a conversation. It’s all engaged in the dialogue and get them to perceive and understand why the brain and nervous is really one of the most critical links to us being healthy, strong, vital, energetic and within our lives. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): I love that. You know, and babies, there’s no control of communication except for the body relaxes and goes into a state of ease. Always. Yeah. And you know, I like to tell a story to people like the reason the chiropractic works is this why, because if I cut my finger, which you’ve probably heard 10 million times, I don’t have to look at and tell it to heal. And Nate’s always on the job and it’s not going to let me bleed out. So a Nate intelligence is inside my body. This unborn wisdom that you’re talking about that heals it naturally. And that’s just like when a chiropractor corrects a subluxation, he doesn’t have to tell it to heal the body or she doesn’t have to tell it to heal. The body just does what it’s supposed to and it starts functioning the way it’s supposed to. And an intelligence switches on to a higher level then. And the body heals quicker. And you know, I used to go and do these talks at the local chamber of commerce when I worked at a clinic in Chicago. So I worked at a clinic for six years too. And they would have me go and do the chamber of commerce meetings. And I would go meet with a young professionals networking group. And I would go meet with a call the let tip group, which is a business leads group. So I was meeting three meetings a week while being the traction tech at an office doing chiropractic biophysics, uh, tracking setups. And it was my job to come up with a creative way to explain subluxations to people. So I would put one slide up and it was an abscess tooth. And I would say, do you see that tooth? This is what it looks like on your spine when you have pain in your back. Do you want that? Oh, you don’t want that. That looks gross, right? Well, you can’t see a subluxation in your spine, but you can feel it. And I said, anytime you feel cranky or it’s tough to turn or tight or stiff, that’s what your spine looks like. And I said, if you come see us, we can check you for that and see if we can help you. DR PETER KEVORKIAN DC (GUEST): That is a way of education. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): So I think, you know, when people think about like soft tissue work, your gum is a direct influence of that, like your gums, like dental people figure it out, man. They’re like, Hey, you got to come and get checked every like amount of months. And we’re going to do some x-rays and we’re going to check you for like cavities and stuff like they’ve figured it out. So I think it is really important to tell the story and maybe one day, just one day, the people that control the way that information is disseminated in this beautiful country and in the world, they will say, wow, these chiropractors have had it right for 127 years. What has helped them tell the sto…

LET’S HUSTLE !!! LUKE MILLETT (PRODUCER): Hey guys, welcome to episode 536 of the Chiro Hustle Podcast. I’m your producer, Luke Millett, and here’s your host, James Chester. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): So today we have the opportunity of interviewing Dr. Ishi Rodriguez. We talk about how to build the chiropractic story. Stay tuned. Welcome back. This is another episode of the Chiro Hustle Podcast. It’s episode 536. Can you guys believe it? I can because I’ve done every single one of these. And it’s a passion project. I absolutely love what we do. And I have Ishi Rodriguez on with me today. We’re going to talk all things chiropractic. But before we jump into this, we hope to inspire you. We’re going to talk about your innate ability to heal. And hopefully we can create the relationship with you that he can be in your life as long as you choose to have a relationship with chiropractic. So this episode, before we jump in, I just let everybody know our big why. Why do we do what we do? Well, number one, freedom of speech, the First Amendment, so important. We’ve never censored anyone on our show. We don’t plan to. But as we know that the past couple of years have been really challenging for people telling the truth about medical freedom and family health freedom. So we support that. We support medical freedom and family health freedom because censorship is real, shadow banning is real. And we’ve experienced it firsthand. So we’ll never censor anyone on the show. Just have some clarity on that. After that, we do protect Vijay Palmer’s Sacred Trust. If you want to know more about chiropractic than you ever knew before, go and find out what Vijay Palmer’s Sacred Trust is. Go search for his last words. You’re going to be indoctrinated with the reason why chiropractors are so proud of this profession. And then we do support civilization based chiropractic. I shouldn’t have to say that, but we need these contextual chiropractic languaging. We need this in chiropractic schools. We don’t need to remove it from the schools. It might be a historical context, but it’s still the real and the reality of this profession. And then we do believe in innate intelligence and universal intelligence. We believe that when man or woman, the physical is adjusted, it connects them to man or woman as spiritual. It just clears the subluxation. So with that being said, Ishi Rodriguez, welcome to the show. DR ISHI RODRIGUEZ DC (GUEST): Hello, James. How are you? Thank you so much for having me. It’s a great opportunity. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): Oh, thank you, man. And you’re coming in from Puerto Rico today, right? DR ISHI RODRIGUEZ DC (GUEST): That’s right. It’s on one Puerto Rico, the island of enchantment. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): Yeah, you know, we were reminiscing a little bit. I’ve been down to Puerto Rico twice over the past couple of years and absolutely love where you’re from. DR ISHI RODRIGUEZ DC (GUEST): Yeah, it’s a beautiful place and it’s getting more beautiful as the years go by. You know, the weather’s great all year round. The people are amazing. And we got some all year round, you know, so we got the vitamin D hitting us all the time, which makes it makes a better mood, a better immune system. That’s a great asset to have in this geography. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): So 20 years is a chiropractor. DR ISHI RODRIGUEZ DC (GUEST): Yeah, 2003 graduated from life university. And my life has been a wonderful, great adventure up to this point. We really, really enjoyed our time there alive. And I can’t wait to tell you many stories of how the journey has been in our lifetime. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): Yeah, so you’re a second generation chiropractor. So you come from a chiropractic family. DR ISHI RODRIGUEZ DC (GUEST): Yeah, my father Felix Rodriguez, he went to school in New York, chiropractic. He was going to go do study medicine was going to become a medical doctor. And when he was in school, he tells me that at one point a professor told him that there was two types of medicine, there was medicine for the rich people and medicine for the poor people. And when you heard that, of course, amongst other information that he was getting at that time, he became very disillusioned with the medical field and he found chiropractic completely changes life. It was a crazy idea in those times, you know, and mid 70s, it was kind of a clandestine in some states. So he decided to become a chiropractor, marry my mother, who’s also like a chiropractor also, but without the degree. And we were born in our home. He basically was there during the birth for the three of us, me and my two siblings. And we’ve been living the chiropractic lifestyle since day one, you know, no vaccines. Our diet was really dialed in. We always were very skeptical of the traditional educational system. And I grew up in a very, very interesting environment and a very interesting perspective on the world. And it’s been such a great blessing and also a great challenge because it makes you question everything around you. Why is the world not like my family? And why doesn’t the world completely have set the chiropractic principle and lives it at 100%. It’s kind of a challenging sometimes to understand that. DR ISHI RODRIGUEZ DC (GUEST): And when it came time to become a professional, I saw my father. So his lifestyle, patients loved him. He had a great, a lot of free time to spend with us. And when it came up, the moment to decide that professional was going to choose, I chose chiropractic. It was a very easy, easy decision. It wasn’t very sexy. It wasn’t like a miracle story. It didn’t change my life in a very radical way in an episode of something. It was just natural for me to organically move into that profession. Once I got into chiropractic 20 years ago in chiropractic school, that’s when I got in a clear love with the philosophy and the power of the principle that we have and we share to the community. And from that day on, I just haven’t stopped. It’s been great. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): How old were you when you decided that you’re going to go and become a chiropractor? DR ISHI RODRIGUEZ DC (GUEST): I was about 17 years old. Yeah. 17. I was looking around, like I couldn’t find something more fun, more fulfilling and more aligned with my philosophy, my in-age philosophy, because I didn’t understand intellectually what in theory what my philosophy was, but it makes so much sense. It’s what I had to do with my life. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): How did you learn how to adjust? DR ISHI RODRIGUEZ DC (GUEST): Interesting. My father never pushed me to become a chiropractor at all. He was like, you do whatever you want. I remember at my first MLS, making love to the spine seminar with Arnold. That’s when I did my first cervical adjustment and it was amazing. I was there. Maybe there was maybe 50 students learning to make love to the spine. Arnold’s way connecting with the spine, visualizing the facets. For some reason, I couldn’t get over my feeling of inadequacy and imposter syndrome. I just couldn’t do it. The seminar was like three days. At the end of the day, Arnold said, raise your hand if you haven’t been able to do an adjustment. I shied, he raised my hand, somebody like arranged for me. I said, I couldn’t get it done. The doctor’s right, the name was Sarnoff. He said, I’m going to help you out. He gave me the name of Zanewell and all the crowd, all the older, the staff and the students were all around me seeing if I could do this one adjustment. Arnold was coaching me, complete silence. I visualized it, connected with my power. DR ISHI RODRIGUEZ DC (GUEST): It was a great connotation. Sarnoff was the patient that I was smiling, every big roar around the room. That was it. I kind of got over it from that point on. A respected professor for helping all those young students overcome that fear that was placed in school sometimes. The educational system. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): Do you have any advice to the future chiropractors that might be listening to us that are in school right now if it comes to them not being? Yeah, secure with their adjusting abilities. DR ISHI RODRIGUEZ DC (GUEST): You know, Chiro means hands in Greek. Remember that. It’s in your DNA. If you’re a chiropractor, you have to understand and be very skillful at using your hands. Instrumentation is great. We use a lot here in the office. But five years ago, we had something called Maria cutting away five hurricane. There was no electricity in Puerto Rico for months. I still had my hands and I could serve people, I could serve children, I could serve my family with confidence. I was very valuable asset to society and community because I still have this and the skills that comes with it. So whatever fear you have, whatever obstacles you have to dominate or developing the skills of using your hands for adjusting, you have to get over them, find good mentors, talk to people. Even if you’re resisting it, it’s just a great asset to having your life. You can intellectualize however you want, but you have to learn how to use your hands. You can’t graduate from school and not be able to adjust a spine without your hands. You just have to. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): Yeah. One of my all time favorite musicians, his name is Ben Harper. Oh, I love it. He has a song called With My Own Hands or something like that. DR ISHI RODRIGUEZ DC (GUEST): You can heal the world with your own two hands. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): Yeah. Yeah. DR ISHI RODRIGUEZ DC (GUEST): And it’s true. So true. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): Yeah. The power of chiropractic is amazing. They can turn the lights off, they can erase the internet, they can suppress the truth. But the one thing that will always stand at the test of time is the training and the ability for a chiropractic adjustment. Yeah. So here’s the deal, ma’am. If they took money away, you could still adjust people. If they took insurance away, you can still adjust people. If you meet people that don’t speak the same language, you can still adjust people. DR ISHI RODRIGUEZ DC (GUEST): Yeah. If they cut your lights, they put you in general. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): You can still adjust people. Yeah. DR ISHI RODRIGUEZ DC (GUEST): Yeah. And then on the technology in the hands, you know, like the innate wisdom and this equipment is beyond anything. You can buy, quantify, measure. It’s just one square centimeter of a finger, a thousand of pressure receptors, you know, that’s just the tip of a finger. Imagine your whole hand and that has connected to your whole nervous system, connected to this brain, to intuition, to everything that you are and you’re connected with through your senses. It’s mind-boggling. You know, it’s it’s uncanny. You can even describe the power of this technology that you have in your hands for free. So why not optimize it with experience, with passion? JAMES CHESTER (HOST): My friend Keith Wausung made a post last night. He says, not all heroes were capes, but many times they use a lot of face paper. None: So true. DR ISHI RODRIGUEZ DC (GUEST): You got to get in like industrial cases. You know, it’s so much. JAMES CHESTER (HOST): You know, it’s a funny thing. I’ve thought about making my own face paper and putting Chiro Hustle logos on it. So everybody gets the face paper. They buy it from us. Everybody sees Chiro Hustle and everybody gets our website. So it’s a good stuff that I’ve thought about. So let’s talk practice building a little bit. You’re in Puerto Rico. What are some things that have worked for you over the past 20 years? What are some things that you did that you’re like, I’ll never do that again. Or like, what, what, just tell us what, what’s working today too. DR ISHI RODRIGUEZ DC (GUEST): Oh, mistakes in the past. I would say just the fear of speaking your truth, the fear of being rejected, the fear of feeling like you’re inadequate, especially next to other people who have fancy or sexy or credentials, I thought credentials were like a secret superpower that some people were entitled to and some were not. And the truth is credentials have nothing to do with healing or capacity to serve and heal people. So that was a big obstacle in my, my mindset back in the day. So get over it. And the way you get over it is building confidence. And the way you build confidence is you have to find something that you’re good at. And it’s very highly reproducible that you know, it’s like your go to toolkit, you know, maybe you’re great at adjusting cervical is where you’re great at exams, maybe whatever you think you’re passionate and you’re very skillful at, that’s your anchor for that confidence. And you start from there and you start sharing that and you start practicing that. It’s going to transfer into an exactly, it’s going to extrapolate into other aspects of your practice. But that confidence is very, very important. And you build it with experience. Another also very, very important thing is what we were talking about also, like we started the podcast is the why, the why of your being, the why of your existence, you have to dial that in all the time and it’s dynamic. You got to be working on it all the time. But like Victor Franco says, once the why is bigger, that it never comes anyhow, you know, any what. So your why is supreme, you got to have that big why. And then any other chances that come up, you’re always going to overcome that. I’ve had opportunities like to be on TV, you know, 80,000 maybe even people watching you on the television, I get nervous and some people ask me, I don’t know how you do it. I don’t know how you can be on TV or doing speaking to 100 people, hundreds of people and make it’s my just my why. Like I’m thinking, what happens if I don’t do it? What are the consequences of that? You know, people are going to suffer, people are going to die, you know, because they don’t get the message maybe. So I can be a coward. I got to I got to step into my power, I got to step into my why. And that just gives me, gives me the energy to do whatever is necessary, you know. And it’s a skill you develop at the time to start with the why, overcome your fears, empathy, you know, put yourself in the other people’s shoes, 80% of people suffering from chronic disease, number, you know, first causes of death are chronic diseases caused by lifestyle that we basically address with our lifestyle interventions and chiropractic if you’re to share your message, you’re accomplished to that, you know, because you do know the truth, you got to share it, you know. So that’s that’s huge. Getting underst…
