    Episode 317 - Mike Maker & the Earthshakers May 06, 2011
    Show notes

MIke Maker Earthshakers Mike Maker formed The Earthshakers in 2007, drawing on some of the top musical talent in the Chicago area. Mark Litin, the Earthshakers' drummer, has pounded the pagan skins in every known kind of band, from rock to jazz to avant garde. It is a great comfort to Mike to know that no matter how weird a song he writes, Mark has played about fifty things that are infinitely weirder. Brian Murphy, the Earthshakers' bassist, has spent more time in the pocket than lint. Brian was blessed with an incredibly discerning and persnickety ear and therefore has become the band's quality control Czar. He rules the band with an iron fist, and will brook no mistakes or tomfoolery. However, other than that, Brian doesn't care. Ben Shachter, the Earthshakers' electrifying lead guitarist, can best be described as an enigma wrapped in a mystery wrapped in a flour tortilla. No one, not even his band mates, knows who he really is, where he comes from, or anything else about him. They are not even sure how he became a member of the band. All they remember is that he was suddenly there at one of the rehearsals, insisting that he had been playing with them for months, and reminding everyone of various events and happenings on "the South America tour", which no one else in the band can recall. Still, he plays really well, so no one has made an issue of it.

    Episode 315 - Carrie Westbay Apr 28, 2011
    Show notes

Carrie Westbay is an acoustic entertainer who has been performing and writing music for over 12 years. You can hear some of her original songs on myspace, facebook and reverbnation. She's been working on a solo project (EP) at Dharma Records with Jake Allen. She's selling singles of her new music to raise the funds to finish the Album. She also performs solo gigs, attends and hosts open mics all over the state when she's not with her band. She is currently playing out with Ashbury Jam since Dave and Jeremy Dehaan's departure of Cherrybomb. She started out vocally in public at age 9 or so and then learned to play french horn through the school's band program in 6th grade. She played in marching band, pep band, solo and ensemble and band festivals. Later she picked up trumpet in jazz band. Carrie moved to Columbus Ohio after graduating- to check out the scene. Soon after moving there she learned to play acoustic guitar and write music with it. She moved back to MI 2 years later to go to college, where she founded guitar club for the only 2 years it prevailed. The club put on benefit concerts on campus, in the theater where Carrie worked as a stage hand. Carrie started playing out solo on acoustic guitar- her vocals carried her until she developed guitar skills. After graduating she continued to play out acoustically and also joined a house band in Houghton Lake at Shenanigans Pub. After 3 years Carrie longed to travel so, she joined a local rock band. Carrie remains the only original member of Cherrybomb since 2006. Carrie recently placed 2nd of over 20 players in the battle of the acoustix in Traverse city. The contest was sponsored by 97.5 WKLT. There she met Terri Ray who loved her original music. This led to being featured on Terri's Sunday night show on 97.5 WKLT's "The Garage." Be sure to check her out online or at a show near you.

    Episode 312 - GreenChoby Apr 20, 2011
    Show notes

GreenChoby is a partnership of singer songwriter Carolyn Green and musician Mike Choby. Their rootsy-style wonderfully combines the grit of the inner city with the sweetness of life based on hope. The duo joined forces back in 1995 when bassist Mike Choby saw singer-songwriter Carolyn Green perform at a coffeehouse in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood. That first meeting led to a rehearsal, many Persian dinners, many more gigs, five CD projects, and a friendship that has lasted over fifteen years. Their latest project, "Carry Me Back Home" was released in June of 2009 and is a beautiful follow-up to their first self-recorded project, "Hold the Line" from 2004.This is a wonderful show performed by two very professional performers that have been together for over 25 years. They are absolutely brilliant.Michael Teach, Founder/Host, CAU

    Episode 311 - Kelsey Montanez Apr 17, 2011
    Show notes

Kelsey Montanez is a singer/songwriter born out of Chicago, IL. Raised into a family of musicians, from an early age she has been exposed to the passion and pleasure music can bring and that joy can be heard in each delicately crafted song she writes. She began singing when she was merely four years old when her father would bring her to band practices and let her sing into the microphone. " I remember sitting on the basement steps and watching my dad and his band build all these beautiful sounds. It felt like I was in a whole other world. That's when I really began to understand that my purpose was to create music and that desire never left me."I absolutely fell in love with this woman's voice and lyrics. I mean, we're talking about a young woman a couple of years out of high school. As you will hear, she has a passion in her voice that is real and honest. This is a must see performer. She will take you on a journey and you will be glad you went. Michael Teach, Founder/Host, CAU

    Episode 310 - Truman's Ridge Apr 15, 2011
    Show notes

"Truman's Ridge harmonies are varied, at times reminiscent of the early brother bands, and at other times showing a strong rural-gospel influence in the 3 and 4 part vocals. The lead vocals are always strong. Instrumentally the band continues to show the influence of midwestern string band and Chicago jazz and blues on its interpretation of traditional bluegrass arrangements. The rock-solid beat of the guitar and bass compliment the driving rhythm of the banjo and the compelling mandolin lead breaks. Fiddle and harmonica are also featured on some songs. Truman's Ridge offers an exciting blend of the familiar and the unique." TRUMAN'S RIDGE FEATURES Mark Fowler on mandolin and harmony vocals. Bruce Wallace on 5-string banjo and harmony vocals. Evan Flower on upright bass and harmony vocals. Steve Sarver on 6-string guitar and lead vocals.

This is the second year of CAU's participation in this woderful festival. It is in the spirit of "Woodstock", but a bit more civilized. Adam Faucett is one of the most powerful and emotional singer/songwriters I have ever seen. He currently lives in Little Rock, Arkansas and he comes to Chicago all too infrequently. You have two chances to see him this time. He is at The Redline Tap tonight April 10, and he is at the Double Door on Tuesday April 12th at 8pm and the tickets are $8.00 and worth every penny. This is a performer that you should not miss. He is absolutely brilliant!!! Gee, do you think I like him. Well, take a listen to the Podcast and you will see what I mean. This is one of the repaired Podcasts and unfortunately we lost the intro interview, but the music is what it's all about anyway.
