    Canadian Club of Toronto

The Canadian Club of Toronto is Canada’s preeminent public affairs podium. Since 1897, we have served an ambitious and important mission: to connect Canadians with world-class leaders and newsmakers and be a leading platform for influencers to engage Canadians on what matters most.

Over our 125 year history as a not-for-profit organization, we continue to be a forum for Governors General and Prime Ministers, CEOs and Nobel laureates, scientists, artists and innovators. We have a proud tradition of hosting national and international leaders in politics, business, social innovation and the media, and our members and audiences are drawn from an equally diverse and distinguished group of leaders.

The Canadian Club addresses routinely generate national coverage across multiple platforms. In addition to reported media coverage and our in-person audience of several hundred people, we make our programming accessible to all Canadians through broadcasts on cable television and webcasts, available online.

Events run between September and June in downtown Toronto. As an independent, non-profit organization, we make all our events open to the public. Tickets can be purchased online or through our office at 416-364-5590.

    Show notes

Join Canadian Club Toronto for breakfast on December 4th when we host Mayor John Tory. One year after his re-election on a strong mandate across the city, Mayor Tory will talk about the tremendous progress made over the last year at City Hall and the work ahead that will ensure transit and affordable housing get built in Toronto. Born and raised in Toronto, Mayor Tory has spent his life giving back to the city he loves, through his tireless work in public, private sector and philanthropic roles. Elected as the 65th Mayor of Toronto in 2014 and re-elected in 2018, John Tory is making the city more liveable, affordable and functional. He has improved the way people move around this city, fighting traffic congestion and speeding up major construction projects; introducing free transit for kids 12 and under and discounted transit for low income residents; championing transit expansion; and securing billions in transit investments from other levels of government – the single biggest infrastructure investment in this city’s history. He has kept taxes low, while investing in priority services including affordable housing and poverty reduction, and modernizing the government services on which people rely. Under his leadership, Toronto has attracted jobs and investment and emerged as an undisputed centre of innovation and opportunity on the world stage. Mayor Tory and his wife Barbara have been married for 41 years and have four children and five grandchildren.

Today’s technology is changing industries at a rapid pace, causing the labour market to face a period of uncertainty. Managing this transition is an important challenge, as is preparing for the future beyond an expected increase in automation. Some call it future proofing, others re-skilling; but what are Canadian institutions doing to address these concerns, how are employers working with academic institutions to prepare employees? Join Canadian Club Toronto on December 3rd to hear from our esteemed panelists – The Honourable Ross Romano, Anne Sado and John Stackhouse – who will discuss these concerns, offer solutions, and illustrate that stronger links between employment and education are key to progress.
