    Canadian Club of Toronto

The Canadian Club of Toronto is Canada’s preeminent public affairs podium. Since 1897, we have served an ambitious and important mission: to connect Canadians with world-class leaders and newsmakers and be a leading platform for influencers to engage Canadians on what matters most.

Over our 125 year history as a not-for-profit organization, we continue to be a forum for Governors General and Prime Ministers, CEOs and Nobel laureates, scientists, artists and innovators. We have a proud tradition of hosting national and international leaders in politics, business, social innovation and the media, and our members and audiences are drawn from an equally diverse and distinguished group of leaders.

The Canadian Club addresses routinely generate national coverage across multiple platforms. In addition to reported media coverage and our in-person audience of several hundred people, we make our programming accessible to all Canadians through broadcasts on cable television and webcasts, available online.

Events run between September and June in downtown Toronto. As an independent, non-profit organization, we make all our events open to the public. Tickets can be purchased online or through our office at 416-364-5590.

Hon. Michael Bryant May 04, 2009
    Show notes

Leading the US out of a severe recession, President Ronald Reagan famously remarked: “Government is not the solution to our problem. Government is the problem.” Michael Bryant, Ontario’s Minister of Economic Development, says today’s economic challenges demands Reverse Reaganism. In the supra-ideological environment we are now in, governments of all partisan stripes are looked to for solutions, intervening in the economy like never before. Please join us on Monday, May 4th, when the Honourable Michael Bryant argues that the Ontario Government’s econofix is pursuing a robust policy of uber entrepreneurism, a laser-guided strategy of direct business investment and tax changes, plus demand-side policies, so we can together jump ahead in the global economy. Bryant’s address will sure to be timely, all the more so coming as it does mere days after Chrysler Corporation’s deadline set by the United States and Canada for radical restructuring.

The Canadian Club is a national, not-for-profit organization with a volunteer board of civic leaders representing the business, government, academic and NGO communities. Our members and audience are an equally diverse cross-section of the Canadian population. Working in partnership with individuals, other foundations, non-governmental organizations and businesses small and large, the Foundation is active within and beyond our borders in confronting challenges and creating opportunities in three key areas: Canadian Girls and Young Women, Aboriginal Youth and Global Initiatives. The Tony Blair Faith Foundation (http://www.tonyblairfaithfoundation.org) promotes religion as a force for good in our increasingly globalised world and aims to increase understanding between faith communities through interfaith encounter and action. The Foundation has launched Faiths Act as an opportunity for people around the world to work together across faith divides in pursuit of the Millennium Development Goals – with the battle against malaria an immediate priority as World Malaria Day approaches on April 25th. Faiths Act and the Faiths Act Fellowship in Canada were launched by the Tony Blair Faith Foundation alongside the Belinda Stronach Foundation in December 2008. The Faiths Act Fellows leadership program will support 30 exceptional young people of faith aged 18-25 from Canada, USA and the UK, to embark on a 10-month journey as ambassadors for interfaith service and the MDGs. They will reach up to 30,000 people of faith through outreach activity, informing them about the devastating impact of malaria and the opportunities open to faith communities to work together to save millions of lives.
