    #101: Is Healthcare A Human Right? Dec 08, 2022
    Show notes

Two BIG things we are talking about today.

First- our 100th Episode Giveaway announcement is today! We have a winner, woohoo! Listen up to see if it was you! Our incredible prize package is listed below as well as thanks to all the sponsors and donors!

The Show: Oregon just passed Ballot Measure 111. It says that the state "ensure that every resident of Oregon has access to cost-effective, clinically appropriate and affordable health care as a fundamental right."

What defines a resident of Oregon? What defines what is cost-effective treatment? Who decides what is clinically appropriate? What happens if a person in healthcare declines to provide health services to an Oregon Resident, are they infringing on someone’s state rights?

So many questions as far as interpretation, costs, and implications for those PROVIDING healthcare and those RECEIVING.

Our guest today, Alan Thayer of Innovative Law Group (ThinkILG.com), is here to help untangle all those questions. He also gives us some important background on the history of Oregon ballot measures and implications how this will play out.

Happy Thanksgiving! Are you “Thankful” today? We sure hope so! We are giving you some extra food for thought today as we discuss gratitude.

Tim and I compare thankfulness to gratitude, the health benefit of gratitude and the bigger psychological benefit of being grateful. We are going to give you tips on how to change your attitude to gratitude even though you may relish in the occasional road rage rampage ( like Tim admits to secretly to).

We’ve got updates on our 100th episode giveaway coming out this week and the results of the IRON pronunciation contest…..it was a landslide.

There’s not much corn in today's episode, just a giant helping of sweet food for thought!

And yes, we are both THANKFUL and GRATEFUL for all of our listeners and fans out there.

    #98: The “Let’s Go Brandon” Guy Nov 17, 2022
    Show notes

How can one sentence and one minute of your life completely upend the trajectory of your “normal” under the radar life? Speaking out, regardless of whether or not you believe in free speech, can have instant life altering consequences. Meet the now infamous gentleman who wished President Joe Biden, “Merry Christmas and let’s go Brandon” on Christmas Eve 2021.

Jared Schmeck thought he was calling the NORAD Santa tracking line with his kids to get an update on Santa’s whereabouts. He was surprised to find out he was on live TV with a direct line to the President and First Lady. And then…the rest is as they say is history.

We discuss what it means to stand up for what you believe in, not becoming intimidated by those who oppose you, and what faith means and looks like in our daily actions.

Since last week was election week , this episode is kind of fitting but oh yeah…. turn the corner and we’re still counting! Good grief.

He’s going to give you the scoop on his prep, experience in the endoscopy day unit and he even brought pics!

#96: Empowered Health with Dr. Mark Sherwood Nov 03, 2022
    Show notes

As the old saying goes, if you want to be successful, then you should listen to successful people. We are doing that with Dr. Mark Sherwood! He has a resume of amazing achievements including being a professional baseball player, previous bodybuilding champion, then law enforcement officer turned Naturopathic Physician.

Dr. Sherwood and his wife have established a thriving Functional Medical clinic in Tulsa, written numerous books, produced inspirational movies and he has recently thrown his hand in for the race for Oklahoma Governor.

We discuss the importance of health being a personal responsibility , current Medical issues such as the Fentanyl crisis, the intermingling of politics and Medicine and finally how patients need to become motivated and empowered to be their best health advocate.

    About our guest:

BIO: Dr. Mark Sherwood was born in Tulsa and raised in nearby Berryhill. His time was spent in law enforcement and at the Functional Medical Institute helping thousands of patients. He and his wife, Michele L. Neil-Sherwood together form a partnership of principled leadership. Together they have successfully treated 10,000 covid patients, resulting in zero deaths.

He is a former Oklahoma state and regional bodybuilding champion, ex-professional baseball player and a 24-year retired veteran of the Tulsa Police Department, where he logged a decade of courageous service on the department’s SWAT Team.

After researching the healthiest ingredients, Drs. Mark and Michele Sherwood launched their response to the food shortage crisis. This performance product, called Kingdom Fuel, is shelf-stable for 2 years and covers all nutritional requirements of a complete meal.

Dr. Mark is about leadership and not politics. He believes that we must save our states, so that we can save our country from the Marxist strategy to destroy families, silence the church and push for a totalitarian regime.

    #95: Simple Medicine Oct 27, 2022
    Show notes

Wouldn’t it be great to make Medicine, well….SIMPLE? Our guest this week has authored a book to help make “self diagnosis” more accurate instead of scaring you with those misleading and frightening Google searches.

Dr. Rob Barkett, MD is a self proclaimed “ grizzled veteran” of 27 years in Internal Medicine and second generation physician. Over the past couple years, he noticed patients struggling with worsening access to adequate medical care. Meanwhile as they sought out advice on the web, they were getting horrible and incorrect information on their conditions. Dr. Barkett noticed as well, worsening communications amongst healthcare providers that has been breaking down and affecting patient care outcomes.

Thus was the genesis of his book Simple Medicine!

For the nonphysician, Dr. Barkett’s book lets you review your medical conditions in a concise manner and know where to go next. It chronicles the changes in primary care medicine over the past 50 years, the obstacles with the current system and he offers up some practical tips for up and coming physicians.

We have a great time discussing ( AND RANTING) some of the concerns about the current Primary Care situation and how patients can advocate for themselves.

    Amazon link: https://simplemedicinebook.com/

    About our guest:

Rob Barkett Jr. M.D. grew up in Mansfield and was first-team All Ohio in basketball, and attended Purdue University on a golf scholarship.

He was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. He attended Thomas Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, and he completed his residency in internal medicine at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. Rob joined his father’s internal medicine private practice, where they practiced together for 13 years until his father’s retirement.

Rob has remained in solo practice and is the medical director for a nursing home and hospice agency. He is married and he has six children.
