#192 How Emotions Exhaust You and What You Can Do About It May 27, 2022
    Show notes

After breast cancer, there's a long list of things that contribute to fatigue,

    -Chemically induced menopause

    -Aromatase inhibitors

    -Radiation treatments

    -etc…

But how often have you considered that your emotions may be contributing to your fatigue?

Intense emotions including fear and anger create a physical response in the body that uses a lot of energy.

So, why is it so hard to let go of the thoughts that create those emotions and keep you in emotional pain in addition to undermining your physical health?

Holding onto intense emotions has been shown to contribute to depression, anxiety, heart disease, poor mental health, and more.

In this episode, I'll tell you about three of the most common thoughts I see, and experience, that create resistance when it comes to letting go of negative emotions and what you can do to move beyond those thoughts and closer to joy.

#191 Mental Health Without Shame May 20, 2022
    Show notes

Finding yourself on this side of a breast cancer diagnosis is not easy. It's not something you expect to happen in your life and it's not something you expect to have long-lasting repercussions. Yet, it does. The trauma of treatment and survival and the unsettling space of adjusting to life after treatment can have a powerful emotional toll.

So why is it so hard for women to reach out for help?

Why do we think there's something wrong or shameful about treating our emotional illness but not our physical illness?

Depression and anxiety are common occurrences after breast cancer, and no one should have to go through them alone or feel ashamed of getting support.

In this episode, I'll share some insights on the importance of valuing your mental health and treating yourself with grace and compassion when you need extra support.

No one goes through breast cancer alone and no one should struggle with the aftermath alone.

    Show notes

What would happen if we took "normal" off the table and looked at life with fresh eyes to decide what we want it to look like going forward?

It's so interesting how easy it is to get caught up in doing life the same way we always have for no other reason than, that's what we know.

Who would you be if you weren't "the strong one", "the sweet one", or " the sassy one"?

#187 Who Do You Want to Be Now? Apr 22, 2022
    Show notes

Life after breast cancer often starts off with one big question, "Who am I now?"

    If you're not

    - the healthy one

    - the one who never takes medicine

    - the one who has boundless energy

    - the one who _______ (fill in the blank)

    Then who are you?

How do you show up like you "used to" when you don't feel normal now?

In this episode I'll give you the good news…you get to decide how you want to show up and how you want your life to look.

You can let go of a lot of baggage and pressure and allow the real you to show herself in all of her glory.

    That's freedom.

The Desire to Feel Desire Again Apr 15, 2022
    Show notes

Chemotherapy and other breast cancer treatments can induce or intensify menopause. Breast cancer surgeries and radiation can change the way your body looks, feels, and reacts to touch. All of these things can change your sex drive and the way you choose to engage in physical intimacy.

But there's another thing that has a powerful impact on this area of your life and it's happening in your brain.

The way you think about yourself, about sex, and about the person or people you choose to have sex with can change a lot more than dryness and atrophy.

In this episode, I'll talk about the impact of thoughts on your sex life and give you a worksheet to help you examine your thoughts and begin to create the life and the connections that you want.

#185 Food is Not The Problem Apr 08, 2022
    Show notes

Not so long ago, there was a time when food was a focus of daily life solely for survival. People farmed, hunted, gardened, canned, and put a lot of effort into ensuring there would be enough food to keep them alive.

Now there are so many food options that the choices are overwhelming; it's easy to overconsume and become overwhelmed.

Add in the fear factor after breast cancer, and there's a whole new layer of confusion.

    You worry about:

    The right choice

    The safe choice

    What will heal you

What will help you lose weight

    What will prevent inflammation

And that's how the diet industry gets you or leaves you overwhelmed, and you just give up.

In this show, I'll give you some insight into something more important than what food to choose, what diet to follow, or what new supplement to take…what you think about food and your food choices.

Sound too simple? Check out this episode and see what you think.

#184 Why You Need to Have Your Own Back Apr 01, 2022
    Show notes

So many of us go through life tearing ourselves apart.

We judge our looks, our decisions, our accomplishments, our strengths, and our weaknesses.

We blame ourselves for just about everything we can think of including how other people think and feel.

Then a diagnosis of a life-threatening disease happens and there are so many more things we can beat ourselves up for, not the least of which is what we did to get cancer in the first place.

Isn't it time to start having your own back?

Imagine a life where you don't decide how you'll punish yourself before you even try something.

A life where you just say to yourself, it's ok, you did your best, don't beat yourself up…and then you listened to yourself.

Well, you can have that life.

Check out this week's episode to hear more about how to have your own back.

#183 You Have More Power Than You Think Mar 26, 2022
    Show notes

When we make the choice to wait and see what an external circumstance might create, we're making the choice not to engage in our life.

In this scenario, we are the ones who step out of life, even if we fool ourselves into thinking the circumstance (i.e. cancer) is the cause.

In this episode, you'll hear more about subtle ways in which we give up power over our lives.

How our brains offer us thoughts that we don't have to accept.

And words we can become more aware of to help us see when we're choosing to step back and let life roll on without us.
