    #231 Food as a Metabolic Therapy Mar 03, 2023
    Show notes

In this episode, we'll discuss the importance of shifting your mentality around food from diet or a way to manage weight to understanding that food can act as a metabolic therapy.

While many breast cancer survivors focus on losing weight as a way to reduce their risk of cancer recurrence, research shows that food can play a critical role in reducing inflammation, supporting immune function, and improving overall health.

We all know that a diet rich in whole foods, fruits, and vegetables can help reduce inflammation and support the body's natural defenses.

So why don't we all adopt a healthy way of eating?

I'll share some insights on that to help you move forward with creating the change you want to see in your life.

Every person's body is different, and their nutrition needs may vary based on their specific health history and cancer treatment.

But thinking of food as a metabolic therapy rather than just a diet or a way to manage weight can help you let go of shame and pressure and refocus your mental energy on healing and feeling well.

#230 What Does it Mean to Live Life on Purpose Feb 24, 2023
    Show notes

Being diagnosed with breast cancer is a life-changing experience that can make us reassess our priorities and goals. It can also bring new clarity and focus to our lives.

Living with intention means making conscious choices about how we want to live our lives. It means being intentional about the people we spend time with, the activities we engage in, and the goals we set for ourselves. Living with intention requires us to be present in the moment and to focus on what is important to us.

Breast cancer can make us realize how precious life is and how important it is to make the most of our time. It can also bring new meaning and purpose to our lives.

Living with intention can also help us cope with the challenges that come with a breast cancer diagnosis. It can give us a sense of control over our lives and help us stay focused on what we can do to improve our health and well-being. It can also help us stay positive and motivated, even in the face of adversity.

In this podcast, we'll explore practical strategies for living with intention.

We'll discuss how to set goals that align with our values and how to stay focused on what is important to us.

We'll also talk about the importance of self-care and how to prioritize our physical and emotional health.

By living with intention, breast cancer survivors can create a life that is fulfilling, meaningful, and joyful. We can use our experience with cancer to inspire us to make the most of every day and to live life to the fullest.

#229 Knowing You're Not Ready for Change After Breast Cancer Feb 17, 2023
    Show notes

Many breast cancer survivors feel pressure to make changes in their lives, such as adopting a healthier lifestyle or making major career changes. However, it's important to understand that change can be difficult and requires a level of readiness.

It's okay to acknowledge that you're not ready for change, and it's important to take the time to process your experiences and emotions before embarking on any major changes.

Rushing into change without proper preparation can lead to feelings of overwhelm, frustration, and shame.

When you're ready to make changes, it's essential to start with small, easy changes that you can build upon over time.

Making small changes can help you gain momentum and confidence, leading to more significant changes over time.

Remember that everyone's journey is different, and it's okay to take things at your own pace. Be patient with yourself and allow the space and freedom to know yourself exactly as you are and to be ok with that.

#228 Trust Yourself to Let Go of Limiting Beliefs Feb 10, 2023
    Show notes

Many times when we begin the process of self-examination, we begin to realize why we have certain behaviors, fears, and resentments.

But knowing why is just the beginning.

Next, you have to learn how to process the pain, understand how it continues to influence you now, and learn how to let it go.

If you don't do that, you stay stuck because the limiting beliefs from your past negative experiences will stop you in your tracks, and you'll never learn how to trust the current version of yourself.

In this episode, I'll share a powerful experience I recently had as I worked on letting go of some of my own limiting beliefs and controlling fears.

I'll walk you through that process, tell you what I learned and offer you a new visual that will hopefully lead you to trust yourself more by the end of the show.

#226 Give Yourself The Gift of Downtime Jan 27, 2023
    Show notes

If you're anything like the one thousand Americans surveyed by BirchBox in the study below, You need to listen to episode #226 of The Breast Cancer Recovery Coach Podcast.

    This study found that:

    • Gen Zers are most likely to feel burnt out (73%), followed by Millennials (57%) and Gen Xers (54%), while Boomers and up are less likely to feel burnt out (39%).
    • Just over one in five (21%) have let guilt get in the way of taking time for themselves.
    • Single people are more likely to regularly make time for self-care than people who are married or in a relationship (42% vs. 30%).
    • Nearly half (45%) of city dwellers say that they rarely have time to care for themselves. Fewer people in small towns and rural areas say the same (39%).

Sadly, I can confidently say that from my experience coaching breast cancer survivors, point number two is often exacerbated when women are caring for themselves after a diagnosis.

They put so much pressure on themselves to keep things normal, and not be a burden to anyone else. Of course, they're kidding themselves because no one goes through breast cancer while everything in life stays normal.

We have to change the way we think about taking time to care for ourselves if we want to create lives that are better than before breast cancer.

My hope is that this week's episode will support you in taking time to do nothing, and loving it.

    #225 Life is Fifty-Fifty Jan 13, 2023
    Show notes

When I did my training at The Life Coach School, one of the concepts we studied was the idea that life is fifty-fifty.

Fifty percent of the time things go pretty smoothly, and things feel like they're all good, and fifty percent of the time we're faced with challenges.

Now challenges can be difficult but the idea of fifty-fifty doesn't necessarily mean they're bad. After all, we learn a lot from life's challenges, and we don't usually learn that much when we're walking on an easy street.

Would you appreciate the good in your life as much as you do if it weren't contrasted by more challenging times?

In this episode, I dive a little deeper into the idea of life being fifty-fifty and how accepting this perspective can actually make things a little easier on you.

#224 Three Things You Need to Know to Achieve Your Goals Jan 06, 2023
    Show notes

Have you given up on making new year's resolutions or setting new goals because they haven't stuck in the past?

Or have you decided to give one another a shot for 2023 but you really don't know how you're going to succeed at it?'

In this episode, I'll give you three questions to consider that will help you see why your goals have fallen off the radar in the past and how to manifest what you want for yourself this year.

Contrary to popular belief, discipline, and willpower aren't the keys to successful behavior change.

When you support yourself with self-compassion, patience, space, and the right mindset, you'll get a lot farther with your goals and you'll have a lot less frustration.

Check out this week's episode and get the right start at succeeding in whatever you want in 2023.

#223 Celebrate What You Bring to The World Dec 30, 2022
    Show notes

There are some things I see women do a lot of:

    -Criticize themselves

    -Judge themselves

    -Belittle themselves

    -Minimize their accomplishments

There are some things I want to see women do more of:

    -Praise themselves

    -Embrace their self-worth

    -Set healthy boundaries

    -Acknowledge their value

We start a new year in two days, and I'd love to see you take the habit of celebrating yourself into that new year.

Wouldn't it be great to make a habit of giving yourself credit, accepting compliments, and knowing you deserve all the best?

Check out this week's episode and see if it inspires you to celebrate yourself and the gifts you bring to this world.

#222 Three Thoughts to Release Trauma and Move Forward Dec 23, 2022
    Show notes

Getting through a hard time and processing a hard time are two very different things.

When we just get through things, that often includes stuffing our emotions, denying ourselves the right to feel, and ultimately creating even deeper trauma.

Processing a difficult is exactly the opposite.

It's giving yourself space and grace and time and compassion.

It's allowing yourself to get the support you need and releasing pain by putting it into words in a form that works for you.

In this episode, I'll share some common thoughts I hear from survivors that tell me they haven't given themselves the space they need and deserve to process what life throws their way.

I'll give you three questions you can ask yourself and consider the next time you feel like life just doesn't fit anymore so you can process what you're experiencing without judging yourself and denying your right to feel.
