#240 Embracing Change with Curiosity and Grace May 05, 2023
    Show notes

    Why is change so hard?

Maybe it's because we resist and judge it rather than embrace change with curiosity, honesty, and patience while being kind to ourselves along the way.

In this week's episode, we'll explore different approaches like tracking progress and seeking support, to help you create meaningful and lasting lifestyle changes.

Some of the key factors in creating change are self-awareness, honesty, and self-reflection so we can clearly see and understand our own actions or the lack of them.

Listen now to hear more about:

    • The significance of being honest without judgment and how to approach change with curiosity and explore the gap between what we think we're doing and what we're actually doing.
    • Questioning the duration of consistent efforts…how long is "long enough" to see results?
    • Creating time for yourself to track and evaluate factual information and gain a deeper understanding of your actions.
    • Embracing curiosity and flexibility: the importance of making adjustments, exploring different methods, and giving yourself grace as you navigate the journey of lifestyle changes after breast cancer.

#238 What is Your Health Worth to You Apr 21, 2023
    Show notes

What are your thoughts about investing in yourself and your health?

How do you overcome the mental barriers you have when it comes to spending money on yourself and your well-being?

It's so important to be open to seeing that you're worth whatever you need in your life and to be able to receive it openly and graciously.

In this world of managing breast cancer, we all know that treatments, therapies, and support come with an expensive price tag. So, we need to allow ourselves to explore all the options and not close ourselves off to therapies that could support us because of the dollar amount attached to them.

The universe is rich and abundant, and we never know what may be available to us.

Some of us don't have financial resources on hand, but some of us do and still choose not to use them on for self-care and support. This is a common mindset that we need to shift. Sometimes we need to prioritize ourselves and our health over other things.

We need to adopt the thinking of "I deserve this" and "I am worth this." just as we would tell a loved one in need.

Investing in ourselves and our health is not a selfish act but a necessary one.

Listen now and start embracing your worthiness today.

Today's episode is all about reducing overwhelm.

Let's face it, life can be tough, and it's easy to feel like we're drowning in everything that's going on. But here's the thing: overwhelm doesn't come from our circumstances themselves, but rather our thoughts about those circumstances.

Sometimes, we need to take a step back and intentionally decide what can wait and what needs our attention now.

Fortunately, there's a simple process that can help us separate things out and prioritize our thoughts. Let's face it, our thoughts about circumstances can create feelings of overwhelm, and it's important to pay attention to them.

But sometimes, we need a little extra help in dealing with overwhelm. So, know that it's okay to ask for help and give yourself permission to do so.

Are you ready to discover the simple steps to reducing overwhelm?

Listen now and hear more about:

    • How overwhelmed is not just caused by everything going wrong at once but also by a cluttered mind.

    • When the mind is too full, it's hard to take action and we may turn to things that numb us.

In order to live a life that's better than before breast cancer, we have to stop doing the things that left us feeling, exhausted, stressed, and compromised before breast cancer.

In this week's episode of The Breast Cancer Recovery Coach Podcast, we'll talk about all the ways that our conditioning to be "good girls" stops us from honoring our healthy boundaries, practicing self-compassion, and prioritizing our emotional well-being.

#235 A Healthy Lifestyle After Breast Cancer is Hard Sometimes Mar 31, 2023
    Show notes

After breast cancer treatment, it can be difficult to begin or resume a healthy lifestyle, especially when physical and emotional energy is low or the body is in pain.

Breast cancer treatment, such as surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation, can take a toll on the body, leaving you feeling exhausted and depleted. This exhaustion can make it challenging to engage in regular exercise, plan healthy meals, or even make wise decisions when it comes to food choices.

Emotions can also be a big barrier to getting started with a new habit, and a lot of times it can be difficult to sustain those healthy choices. This can make it difficult to feel motivated to take care of oneself and engage in healthy behaviors, such as eating well and exercising.

It's important for women who have been through breast cancer to recognize that it's normal to experience physical and emotional challenges. And that sometimes you'll stumble along as you try to create and stick to healthy lifestyle choices.

Check out this episode to hear more about:

    • The challenges that come with living a healthy lifestyle after breast cancer diagnosis.

    • Why it's important not to look for an easy solution.

    • You have to decide to be an individual and do what's right for you.

    • Resources that are out there that can support you in this journey.

#234 What if You Could Love The Life You Create? Mar 24, 2023
    Show notes

If there's one thing I learned from breast cancer, it's that there's no time to waste on bad books, terrible movies, unfulfilling work, or negative people in this precious short life.

But there are also too many wonderful experiences, skills to learn, places to see, and amazing people to spend time with to let life go by without intentionally putting energy into the things I love or think I might love.

And yet we do that all the time.

We talk ourselves out of trying something new in favor of playing it safe.

We let opportunities pass us by because we might not like them, we might look like a quitter or a flake, or we might be judged by the other people who are sitting around, letting life pass them by.

Isn't it time to change that?

In this episode, I'll share the story of my twisted path to figuring out what I loved to do in life, and I'll share some insights on the most common excuse I hear when it comes to friends, family, and clients talking themselves out of creating the life they might love.

    Listen to hear more about:

    • Why you need to be more comfortable being the most authentic version of yourself.

    • What led me to become a healthy lifestyle coach?

    • Why you don't have to finish what you're doing.?

    • Getting in touch with the niggling thing inside you that says, "What will happen then?".

    • The problem is where we hold ourselves back.

    • How to consciously and intentionally decide whether or not something is for you.

#233 When You're Too Tired to Fight Mar 17, 2023
    Show notes

Life is not always an easy journey and when cancer is a part of it can be tough to find the balance between fighting, and surrendering.

As I navigate living with metastatic disease and focus on doing "all the right things" I've found that the fight subtly sneaks in and inevitably leads me to the one place…frustration.

In this week's show, we'll talk about what happens when we slip into "push-through " mode, and how important it is to allow yourself to surrender when the load you're pushing gets too heavy to bear.

Sometimes it's in surrendering the fight that we find the strength and inspiration to keep going.

Check out this week's show to hear more about:

    • When we get to that moment where we just say, "Help me", we surrender.

    • We're resisting what we don't want to want.

    • I don't have control over the outcome, I only have control over today.

    • Tumor markers went up in my bloodwork.

    • When the outcome isn't what you want.

    • If I get too attached to what the outcome is going to look like before I even get there, the danger is I fall off the wagon.

#232 What if Other People are Wrong About You Mar 10, 2023
    Show notes

Have you felt afraid to evolve and change your life because of the fear of what others may think or the potential discomfort that comes with self-exploration?

Our brains are wired to protect us, so when we encounter something that seems dangerous or unfamiliar, we may feel a sense of resistance.

But, by not allowing ourselves to explore new possibilities, we limit our growth and our potential.

In this episode, we'll talk about embracing the discomfort of change in order to evolve and grow.

Most of us are too afraid to embrace change because we're worried about what others might think.

This fear of change and other people's opinions is the brain's natural tendency to protect us from potential harm or danger. But it can also prevent you from stepping out of your comfort zone and creating the life you really want to live.

Ultimately, being okay with others being wrong about us requires a level of emotional maturity and resilience. It involves recognizing that we are not defined by the opinions of others and that we have the power to choose how we respond to their perceptions of us.

Check out this week's episode to hear more about:

8:17 What if someone thought you were mean because of what you said?

10:25 Can you be okay with other people being wrong about you?

12:30 How much more freedom would you have if you were not thinking you had to do things to make people think of you the way you want them to

14:38 We don't allow ourselves to evolve because we're so concerned with what other people think.

16:47 When I step out, I'm putting myself in harm's way, but I've got my own back.

18:48 Be comfortable being you and set an example.
