The Parable of Building on Rocks and Sand Jan 03, 2016

Show notes

We Christians do good deeds. Despite our brokenness, God breaks through and ministers to His creation through us. However, brokenness operates within our motivation. The Lord looks at the heart. So we must ask ourselves: Do we serve Christ for His pleasure, or for our own pleasure? When the storm hits, if we serve God for our own pleasure, we build our house on sand, and we are blown away by doubt. Dr. Sams presents a simple tool to wrap around our lives, so that we are persistently connected to God, and building a house on rock.

Relationships & Purpose Dec 20, 2015

Show notes

As Dr. Sams explores today, Scripture teaches us that relationships matter much more than we think. In fact, we are made for relationships. We require them. Having relationships is a fulfillment of the both the eternal glory to which we aspire, and the image of God in which we're made. Now, of course, our relationships are touched by our brokenness, just as everything else is. But would you listen, and accept the challenge this Advent season on how to reorient your relationships in the way God would have you? If so, I personally guarantee a Merrier Christmas.

Food & Creation Dec 13, 2015

Food and Creation? Yes, there is a connection. A big one: all our food comes from it. Photosynthesis. Pollination. Decomposition. Water cycles. Digestion. Reproduction. All these elements are parts of God's creation and without them, we have no food, and we die. But more than that, there's an intimate connection between food, creation, and the glory of Christ in which we'll one day share. And *even more than that* is the most compelling reason to take eating more seriously than we do: God's Word prescribes a specific approach. If you're like me, taking food for granted (spoiler alert: so does Dr. Sams), you need to listen to this message. It will change the way you think about food, and therefore your life.

Work & Play Dec 06, 2015

Show notes

Dr. Sams unpacks John's image of Heaven from the Book of Revelation. Heaven is not disembodied; earthly work and play carry over to Paradise. In fact, just as the lines are blurred between heaven and earth, so are the lines blurred between work and play. Watch or listen, and see how Christ's second Advent affects the first Advent we celebrate at the end of every year.

Life & Meaning Nov 29, 2015

Show notes

Eternity is not the alternative to this earth, it is the redemption & restoration of this earth. In the book of Revelation, when John uses the word "new", there is no implication of discard of the old. More accurately, the old is made new, and so dramatically that there is no trace of "old" left. Believers live in the middle of that transition. We are effectively suspended between heaven and earth. As such, we get tastes of heaven here, on earth. How is that possible? And what exactly is heaven anyway? Click "watch" to explore those questions today with Rev. Mike Morgan, in his inaugural sermon as an ordained pastor at Bel Air Church. We celebrate Mike joining our pastoral team!
