The Wedding Banquet Jan 31, 2016
    Show notes

It is easy to miss the blessings Christ has for us. We regularly hold ourselves back from the Holy Spirit. Sometimes, we're arrogant enough to think we can do it ourselves - that we can somehow offer up whatever it takes to gain a better life, even unto eternity. We cannot. But hear the gospel, and receive its good news. You are set free. Lean into God's plan for your life, and receive blessings you could never imagine. There is a wedding banquet. All are invited.

The Prodigal Sons Jan 24, 2016
    Show notes

We know what rock bottom looks like. When foolish choices are made, the predictable drama of a soul lead toward destruction follows. But equally destructive is the way of resentment. When we choose to keep score, to count the blessings someone else receives against the ones we don't, sin will likewise consume us and lead us to the same destruction. The truth is, we are all lost, and need the power of God to find our way. Dr. Sams reminds us today of a core gospel truth: God the Father invites you into true love. Will you allow resentment lead you to miss the opportunity of a lifetime? Or will you lean into God's love for His children?

The Good Samaritan Jan 17, 2016
    Show notes

Sacrifice is the emptying of yourself for the filling of someone else. But what if the one sacrificially loving you is your mortal enemy? On the day before Martin Luther King Day, Dr. Sams explores what it means to love and be loved by your enemy. The Gospel enables us to perfectly love, as we submit our lives to the Holy Spirit.

The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector - Audio Jan 10, 2016
    Show notes

Dr. Sams takes his sermon time today to remind us of one of the best aspects of the Gospel. We are completely and totally incapable of doing enough to earn God's good graces. Yet, we still try. And as a culture, we elevate the value of achievement to such levels that we carry those standards over into our relationship with others, and ultimately, our relationship with God. The Gospel sets us free from those chains of expectation. Christ provides a covering for us. Hear the good news: Christ is enough, and with Christ, we are enough, unconditionally.

The Parable of Building on Rocks and Sand - Video Jan 03, 2016
    Show notes

We Christians do good deeds. Despite our brokenness, God breaks through and ministers to His creation through us. However, brokenness operates within our motivation. The Lord looks at the heart. So we must ask ourselves: Do we serve Christ for His pleasure, or for our own pleasure? When the storm hits, if we serve God for our own pleasure, we build our house on sand, and we are blown away by doubt. Dr. Sams presents a simple tool to wrap around our lives, so that we are persistently connected to God, and building a house on rock.
