The Church is God's New Humanity Feb 28, 2016

Show notes

A long time ago, being in God's presence was so exclusive, that only one person a year was allowed into the place where ancient Israelites believed God dwelled. And that person (the high priest), risked their life to enter. Any misstep in ritual cleansing would result in certain death. The Israelites believed this so fervently, that a rope was tied around the priest's ankle, so he could be dragged out should he perish, sparing anyone else from entering to retrieve him. The exclusivity of entering into God's presence is greater than any bottlenecked entryway we can fathom. We have come to take it for granted. So hear the gospel. Be reminded that Christ has opened the door, and has left each of us an open seat at God's eternal banqueting table.

The Church is Born (Bill Crawford) Feb 14, 2016

Show notes

Rev. Bill Crawford from Water's Edge Church joins us to help launch a new sermon series. Drawing from Acts and Ephesians, Bill reminds us how precious the gift of the church is. God's Holy Spirit rests on His people, both individually, and corporately. And it isn't a privileged gift. It is equally measured to all who accept Christ. The church exists to provide us with a community that reminds us that God is with us, in us, for us, and through us (to each other). The church is the gospel in action.

Some of our most beloved Christian truths revolve around God imparting His Spirit onto the community of believers known as The Church. Inaugurating a new sermon series, Dr. Sams reminds us of this basic truth: God is in us, and together, we are empowered to encourage each other with God's promises, for God has adopted us into His kingdom making us brothers and sisters of each other and of Christ Himself. His kingdom never falters, never fails, and we are part of it.

The Parable of the Talents Feb 07, 2016

Show notes

What do we do with the gifts we are given? This wrap up of the "Learn. Be. Do." series by Rev. Kim Dorr-Tilley, explores not what we do with the gifts, but how much we appreciate them. When we celebrate the gifts only for what they can give us, and not for who gave them, we end up bitter and fearful toward the giver of gifts. This plays out beautifully in the parable of the talents Jesus tells his disciples. How do we avoid being lost in our own fear, greed, and resentment? Have a listen. There is an answer.
