Mailbag #37 - Batman Called In Dec 26, 2023

Show notes

It's the day after Christmas, but here we got a chance to open some gifts sent into the studio, as well as take more of your emails and voicemails. Suggestions are in like Moonfire and Hank & Mike, as well as someone who sounds like they are reviewing Santa With Muscles at gunpoint. Batman listened to our Terminator Salvation episode, and he's not happy about it.

#138 Tremors 3: Back to Perfection (2001) Dec 22, 2023

Show notes

Stephanie, Joe, and the Mayor are back in Perfection alongside Burt Gummer as he continues to have the worst luck ever. No matter how many killer dirtworms (aka Graboids) he takes out, they seem to follow him all over the world. This time, back in his hometown, will he be able to stop them for good? Given that there are 7 Tremor's movies, I'm guessing no. At least we can have fun roasting all of this ridiculousness along the way.

#137 Reindeer Games (2000) Dec 15, 2023

Show notes

What if Ben Affleck amid "misses" Forces of Nature and Bounce, made a heist movie that had plot twists on top of its plot twists, featuring an unhinged Gary Sinise and a young (crazy) Charlize Theron? A recipe for success you might think, but Reindeer Games got blasted by critics, and audiences and it bombed financially. Where did it go wrong? It had a great writer and an all-time director John Frankenheimer. Is it time to re-assess Reindeer Games or does it deserve its spot in the garbage heap of 90's cinema?

#136 Santa With Muscles (1996) Dec 08, 2023

Show notes

Imagine the pitch meeting - "It's Santa Claus, right, but this one has muscles!" PRINT THE MONEY! Now, the rest of us are left to pick up the pieces of Hulk Hogan's Santa With Muscles (1996). Previous Hulk Hogan movies had him playing different versions of himself, and here he attempts to act and play a different character. It goes about as well as you'd expect. Many questions will be answered - how did Mila Kunis bury this performance? How can a lawn ornament bench press 300 pounds? Why is Ed Leslie playing an Asian? We'll pull it all apart, and then give out some awards, including our worst actor award, the "Steve Seagal" Trash Can Full of Dirt.

#135 The One (2001) Dec 01, 2023

Show notes

Not too many movies out there featuring Jet Li in dreadlocks, but this is where we find ourselves. Even though The One (2001) is rated very low by critics, some swear this is an awesome movie. The movie made us laugh, we're just not sure it was supposed to. It also features one of the best Jet Li fights we've ever seen. We go scene by scene and answer the important questions - how did Jet Li get with Carla Gugino? Why is the only thing different in each parallel universe his hairdo? Why does Jason Statham have hair, and why can't he fight in this? We'll pull it all apart, and then give out some awards, including our worst actor award, the "Steve Seagal" Trash Can Full of Dirt.

#134 Breakin' (1984) Nov 24, 2023

Show notes

Lace-up your high tops, folks! We're about to journey back to 1984 and witness the classic/catastrophe that is "Breakin'" (1984). Directed by Joel Silberg, who I'm sure has lots of breakdancing experience, this film doesn't have a single cardboard dance floor or Adidas tracksuit.

We will break down the dance moves that somehow pass as the pinnacle of '80s street style. With a great soundtrack but a plot thinner than the spandex in an '80s workout video, "Breakin'" is a time capsule of dance moves and fashion choices that we thought were cool at the time.

But here's the burning question: Does "Breakin'" transcend its retro charm to become a genre-defining classic, or is it just a dance disaster that time forgot? Grab your boombox and join us as we breakdance our way through the laughs, delivering our verdict on Breakin!

Leave us a voicemail with your take on the movie - 262-757-8567

#133 The Net (1995) Nov 17, 2023

Show notes

BMR delves into the '90s cyber-thriller abyss as we unravel the tangled web of "The Net" (1995). Directed by Irwin Winkler, this film shows us floppy disks that could destroy the world and the glorious 90s version of the internet.

Join us as we hack our way through the implausible scenario of Sandra Bullock's loner shut-in who's unable to get a date. In this episode, we are so split we spend half the time arguing about the complexity of ordering pizza online. "The Net" is a nostalgic trip back to the days when we feared the World Wide Web more than appreciated it.

Does "The Net" transcend its '90s nostalgia and remain a taut tech thriller, or is it just a pixelated relic in the annals of cyber cinema? Join us as we surf the net with laughter, delivering our verdict on whether "The Net" is a tech-thriller masterpiece or a dial-up era dud.
