    You Are a Miracle Jan 21, 2021
    Show notes

"The irony of Jesus' later followers choosing a miraculous birth story somehow to proclaim him as special is that what actually made Jesus special was his ability somehow to resist the rest of the world's denial that everyone is special. His ability to remember that every birth is a miracle, that every life is a wonder – and to treat everyone as such.

The revolutionary power of Jesus is not summed up in a virgin birth story but in how Jesus lived what we proclaim every time we gather … that God dwells in YOU. That every time we meet each other we are meeting a miracle. That every time we look in the mirror, we are looking at a miracle."

Sermon by Mike Kinman from the virtual worship at All Saints Church, Pasadena, at 11:15 a.m. on the fourth Sunday of Advent, December 20, 2020. Readings: I Samuel 1:19-28, Canticle of Hannah (I Samuel 2:1-10), Titus 3:4-7 and Matthew 1:18-25. To watch the entire service visit https://youtu.be/Z44aYgxdsy0. Read the sermon text here.

George Regas: A Faith No Storm Can Destroy Jan 08, 2021
    Show notes

From the All Saints Archives: A sermon preached by George Regas laying the foundation for decades of All Saints Church putting faith into action in the world.

"The soundest thinking in the world without love in action is of little worth. I think God's deep concern with us today it's not the correctness of our creeds but the quality of our deeds as we build our house of faith on the rock of love."

George Regas: The Transforming Power of a Nonviolent Christ Jan 08, 2021
    Show notes

From the All Saints Archives: This sermon preached by George Regas on April 9, 1995, lifts up the core Christian value of nonviolence.

"In a world of violence, Jesus was peaceful. In a world that depended on brute force, Jesus depended on nothing but the love of God expressed in human life. Jesus lived a nonviolent life in a world of vicious violence -- and he sent out his disciples ... and us ... to do the same thing."

George Regas: Loneliness Jan 08, 2021
    Show notes

From the All Saints Archives: This sermon preached by George Regas on February 25, 1990, calls the church to be "religion at its best" -- putting people in connection with God and with each other.

"I believe more than any other human problem loneliness -- the absence of meaningful human connections -- drains the joy and purpose from life. And at its essence, religion is what binds us together and makes us into community."

George Regas: God, Sex and Justice Jan 08, 2021
    Show notes

From the All Saints Archives: This sermon, preached by George Regas on October 11,1990 opened the way for the blessing of the covenants of same-sex couples at All Saints Church and paved the way for marriage equity in the Episcopal Church decades later.

"I believe God is calling this great parish into a new place ...The blessing of a same sex covenant is the clearest symbol the church can send that these precious children of God are fully accepted into the life of the congregation. Don't ever underestimate the power of healing such an act would bring."

    Groaning Together Dec 10, 2020
    Show notes

"It has been nine months since the annunciation of stay at home. Nine months. And as the days shorten, the nights lengthen and we prepare for the nine months of Mary's pregnancy to end in the joy of Christmas, we are being told that our isolation, that the hospitalizations, the overflowing ICUs, the death tolls, jobs lost, anxiety, separation, loneliness, talking with each other only online and through masks… will continue.

"What mother, after nine months of pregnancy, of nausea, aches, pains, anxieties, fatigue, constipation, bloating, hemorrhoids and having to pee a hundred times a day would welcome being told … what do ya say? Let's do nine more!

"It would be inconceivable. There would be no words.

    "And yet here we are.

"What do we do when there are no words?

    "We groan."

Sermon by Mike Kinman from the Virtual 11:15 a.m. Worship at All Saints Church, Pasadena, on Sunday, December 6, 2020. Readings: Genesis 17:15–22, Psalm 78:1–7, Romans 8:18–25 and Luke 1:39–45.

Jesus and Hagar – the Form of a Slave Dec 10, 2020
    Show notes

"Who is the God of your envisioning? Does your God see you? Does your God know you? Does your God love you? Or does your God tell you that you are not enough? That the way you were made is insufficient. Does your God cut off the possibility of your thriving and flourishing as who you were created to be? Does your God call you to deny essential components of who you are? Does your God dwell with you in your sorrow and in your pain? And when your God demands difficult things of you like returning to a place of pain, will your God walk with you?"

Sermon by Wil Gafney from the Virtual 11:15 a.m. Worship at All Saints Church, Pasadena, on Sunday, November 29, 2020. Readings: Genesis 16:7–13, Psalm 71:4–11, Philippians 2:5–11 and Luke 1:26–38.
