By knowing an addict, having been affected by addiction, or being in recovery yourselves, Team Addict II Athlete is here to help. We have come together to help one another with the outcome from all angles of addiction using our Erase and Replace Philosophy. Erase negative behaviors by replacing the void left behind with health, service, support system, and recreation. We are here to carry the message of recovery and change the outlook of addiction. Our goal is to spread the message of recovery to the addict and family of the addict who still struggles with addiction and to show that we have discovered a more excellent way to live. Moving from Addict to Athlete, dismisses the old way of thinking that recovery must remain anonymous as you become an Agent of Sobriety and a Champion of recovery. Overtime: Collateral Damage Aug 11, 2023
    Show notes

When we're talking about family problems, it's important to remember that there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Each family is unique and has unique challenges, so the best thing you can do is listen closely and try to understand what your loved ones are going through.

The next step is to be involved in their lives! This means asking them questions, but also making sure that they know that you care and that you're there for them.

It can be difficult to face challenges with a positive attitude, but it's important not to give up. If something goes wrong or gets tough, don't give up—just try again!

It's not easy to talk about family problems, but it's also not impossible.

When you're facing a challenge with your loved ones, remember that they want to help you—they just don't always know how. Give them some space, but also be sure to use the opportunity to ask for their input and advice. And if you're feeling ready, talk about your feelings! It's okay to express yourself as long as you do it in a way that doesn't make them feel attacked or guilty for making things difficult for you.

Sometimes we need help overcoming addiction and other challenges in our lives. If that's what's going on with you right now, don't be afraid to reach out for help (or just ask someone close if they think they can help). It might seem scary at first, but most people are willing to listen and offer support if they can see that something is wrong or upsetting you.

Addiction Is Not The Answer: John Shea May 15, 2023
    Show notes

John Shea shares his story of addiction and now recovery. John had a chaotic childhood that was extremely unstable. This and other mental health challenges led to years of a substance use disorder. He is proud to be sober and found exercise and fitness helps his recovery. He found Addict II Athlete a few years ago and became a certified Recovery Coach and hopes to apply his training helping vets in New York where he resides.
Living with addiction can be incredibly challenging, but it is possible to overcome addiction and build a fulfilling, meaningful life. Here are some tips for addressing addiction problems and learning to love life again:

    1. Seek professional help: Addiction is a complex issue, and it often requires professional help to overcome. Whether you choose to work with a therapist, attend support groups, or seek medical treatment, getting help is an essential step in the recovery process.

    2. Build a support network: Surrounding yourself with supportive people can make a big difference in overcoming addiction. Whether it's friends, family, or members of a support group, having people who understand what you are going through and can offer encouragement and support can be incredibly helpful.

    3. Find healthy coping mechanisms: Many people turn to drugs or alcohol as a way to cope with stress or other challenges. Finding healthy coping mechanisms, such as exercise, meditation, or creative activities, can help you manage stress and build resilience without turning to substances.

    4. Set goals and stay focused: Setting specific goals and working towards them can be a powerful motivator in overcoming addiction. It can help you stay focused on the positive changes that you are making and give you a sense of purpose and direction in life.

    5. Practice self-care: Taking care of yourself is essential in overcoming addiction and building a fulfilling life. This can include eating well, getting enough sleep, and engaging in activities that bring you joy and fulfillment.

Remember, overcoming addiction is a process that takes time and effort. But with the right mindset, support, and tools, it is possible to break free from addiction and live a life that you love.

One on One with Coach Blu: Addressing Children's Mental Health Mar 31, 2023
    Show notes

In this podcast we address the issues that can arise in your family after a tragic event or even in this case, after a false alarm with this shooter hoax.

Talking to kids about tough topics can be difficult, but it's important to have open conversations and create an environment where family members feel comfortable sharing their experiences.

Think about the issues that are most relevant to your child's age and interests, and start a conversation about how you can support them through tough times. When kids are struggling, open communication is key. Talking openly about tough subjects with your kids can give you valuable insight into how they're feeling and what their struggles are. Whether you notice signs of depression or anxiety, there are many things you can do to help your kid feel supported and less alone.

We'll cover how to spot the signs in your children and talk to them about it in a way that builds trust and strengthens relationships. If you suspect your child is struggling with something, it can be difficult to know how to approach the topic. But if you encourage your child to open up about what's going on, it will help normalize those feelings and help them heal.

Talking to kids about tough subjects isn't easy. But it is important. Talking to your kids openly and honestly can help them learn how to navigate through tough times but also how to ask for help when they need it.

Great Leaders Live Like Drug Addicts by Michael Brody-Waite May 24, 2021
    Show notes

In this week's podcast Coach Blu speaks with Michael Brody-Waite, entrepreneur, author, TedX speaker, and person in long-term recovery. Listen as Michael describes life as an addict, spending every waking hour doing whatever it took to stay high, including stealing from my friends and family.

Michael describes taking a chance on himself and seeing that his addiction didn't have to be a death sentence, in fact, it could be utilized to create an unstoppable force. As many of you on Team Addict to Athlete understand, to turn the mess into a message you only need to flip the script. Use the same energy in a positive light thus producing amazing outcomes. In his book 'Great Leaders Live Like Drug Addicts', you will hear that your addiction does not have to dictate your future. It's time to use the same energy for positive outcomes, rather than the negative aspects of active addiction. You have the power to become an agent of recovery.

One on One With Coach Blu: Trust, Relationships and Recovery Mar 04, 2021
    Show notes

On today's One on One with Coach Blu podcast, we discuss questions submitted by viewers on how to date when in early recovery, how to regain trust with loved ones, and how to have difficult conversations with your spouse.

First Question: How do I start dating now that I am sober? 1. Be honest and forthright. 2. Avoid testing your willpower. 3.Watch for the signs of codependency. 4. Allow your recovery/sobriety to be a value you bring to the table. 5. Practice how you will bring up or talk about your recovery. 6. Pace yourself. 7. Know your worth.

Second Question: How long does it take for my family to trust me? I know I should be patient but I feel like they are constantly raising the trust bar. 1. Trust is a gift, it's not earned. 2. Truly an important part of the forgiveness process is forgiving yourself. 3. Then: Forgive the others and stakeholders in your life. It is impossible to regain trust without first regaining control of your emotional well-being by finding your inner peace with the situation.
