    Addict II Athlete Podcast

    The Addict II Athlete podcast is hosted by Coach Blu Robinson, a licensed clinical mental health counselor and substance abuse counselor who has worked in the field since 2001. He is a fantastic public speaker, coach, and therapist who works with many individuals, youth, couples, and families addressing issues like addiction, trauma, communication, parenting, and more. Blu hopes to provide listeners with the skills and game plans for anyone to turn their mess into their message of hope and a bright future. The AIIA podcast is here to inspire anyone. We share recovery stories, education, life tips, address teen and parenting issues, and more. Our topics address all walks of life but also addiction recovery with tips and fundamentals for those seeking recovery as well as the family and friends of someone who is. Addict II Athlete removes the negative stigma of addiction and mental health and creates a foundation of potential and support. Addict to Athlete is a nonprofit team of peers, friends, and family who have a desire to create a new way of life. By knowing an addict, having been affected by addiction, or being in recovery yourselves, Team Addict II Athlete is here to help. We have come together to help one another with the outcome from all angles of addiction using our Erase and Replace Philosophy. Erase negative behaviors by replacing the void left behind with health, service, support system, and recreation. We are here to carry the message of recovery and change the outlook of addiction. Our goal is to spread the message of recovery to the addict and family of the addict who still struggles with addiction and to show that we have discovered a more excellent way to live. Moving from Addict to Athlete, dismisses the old way of thinking that recovery must remain anonymous as you become an Agent of Sobriety and a Champion of recovery.     In this episode Thad shares his story of overcoming addiction and finding recovery. He talks about his journey from being a functional addict to hitting rock bottom and realizing he needed to make a change. Thad discusses the gradual decline of his addiction and the impact it had on his relationships and overall well-being. He also highlights the role of pain and avoidance in addiction and the importance of putting oneself first in the recovery process. Thad's pivotal moments include his grandfather giving him an ultimatum and meeting a sober friend who had a light in his eyes. He shares his experience with 12-step recovery and the process of surrendering to a higher power. Thad shares his journey of recovery and personal growth, highlighting the importance of internal change and self-reflection. He initially believed that changing his external circumstances would lead to a better life, but he soon realized that he needed to change himself from within. Thad experienced a period of detachment from recovery and accumulated personal wreckage, leading to thoughts of suicide. However, he eventually recognized the need to look inward and take responsibility for his actions. Through therapy, self-help books, and various programs, Thad began the process of internal cleansing and personal growth.

    What Is Acudetox? And What Are The Benefits? Apr 01, 2024

    In this episode, Coach Blu Robinson interviews Amy de la Garza, physician and past president of the Utah Society of Addiction Medicine and Mel Guest, nurse practitioner, about the AccuDetox method and the Five Needle Protocol. They discuss the history and uses of the protocol, the five points involved, and the benefits of using acupuncture for stress reduction and addiction recovery. Amy and Mel share their experiences with the protocol and the training process. They also provide information on upcoming trainings and how to get involved. Overall, the episode highlights the power of non-verbal, non-invasive methods in helping individuals find calm and healing.

    5 points ear acupuncture is a holistic treatment to healing that involves the placement of up to five small, sterilized disposable needles into specific sites on each ear. The recipients sit quietly in a individual setting for 5-30 minutes or group setting for 30-45 minutes. In addition to addiction recovery, auricular acupuncture is frequently used to support smoking cessation, weight loss, PTSD, and generalized anxiety and stress. Other Benefits of Auricular Acupuncture • Reduced cravings, • Increased calmness, better sleep, and less agitation, • Relief from stress and emotional trauma, • An easier connection with counseling, • A discovery of inner quiet and strength, and • Reduction in the need for pharmaceuticals

    The five points are: 1 The Autonomic Point which calms the nervous system and helps with overall relaxation; 2 the Shen Men or "spirit gate," which reduces anxiety and nervousness; 3 the Kidney Point, for reducing aggression, calming fears and healing internal organs; 4 the Liver Point for detoxification, blood purification, and to suppress aggression; and 5 the Lung Point, which promotes aeration and helps reduce grief.
