He is a fantastic public speaker, coach, and therapist who works with many individuals, youth, couples, and families addressing issues like addiction, trauma, communication, parenting, and more. Blu hopes to provide listeners with the skills and game plans for anyone to turn their mess into their message of hope and a bright future. The AIIA podcast is here to inspire anyone. We share recovery stories, education, life tips, address teen and parenting issues, and more. Our topics address all walks of life but also addiction recovery with tips and fundamentals for those seeking recovery as well as the family and friends of someone who is. Addict II Athlete removes the negative stigma of addiction and mental health and creates a foundation of potential and support. Addict to Athlete is a nonprofit team of peers, friends, and family who have a desire to create a new way of life. By knowing an addict, having been affected by addiction, or being in recovery yourselves, Team Addict II Athlete is here to help. We have come together to help one another with the outcome from all angles of addiction using our Erase and Replace Philosophy. Erase negative behaviors by replacing the void left behind with health, service, support system, and recreation. We are here to carry the message of recovery and change the outlook of addiction. Our goal is to spread the message of recovery to the addict and family of the addict who still struggles with addiction and to show that we have discovered a more excellent way to live. Moving from Addict to Athlete, dismisses the old way of thinking that recovery must remain anonymous as you become an Agent of Sobriety and a Champion of recovery. OVERTIME: Empathy Jun 23, 2023
    Show notes

Coach Blu and Marissa discuss empathy, social justice, and relationships. It is extremely important to have empathy for others. In the world we live in relationships with others are vital to our overall success. It's easy to get wrapped up in your own problems and forget that other people. Make sure you stand up for others and what you believe. It's important to remember that everyone has a story, and everyone is trying their best. So when you see someone struggling, try not to judge them—instead, reach out and offer your support!
It's okay to encourage others in healthy ways. Sometimes people need help getting through tough times, but they don't always want or need a lecture. Instead of offering advice, try giving compliments instead.
Here are some tips to increase your empathy.
    1. Cultivate curiosity- Get to know and learn more about others.

    2. Step out of your comfort zone

    3. Be open to feedback and check your ego

    4. Examin your biases

    5. Walk in the shoes of others

    6. Have difficult respective conversations

    7. Join a cause

    8. Read and educate yourself

    Show notes

Have you ever wondered what's at the core of addiction? What is the causality of addiction? Have you ever wondered what it is that created your addiction in the first place? Do you know the difference between recovery and healing from addiction? Do you know how important it is for you to strengthen your mind and change your thinking in order to recover and heal from addiction? These are questions answered and discussed on this week's podcast. Listen as Coach Blu describes his approach to addiction recovery, using your mind as a tool rather than an obstacle and being able to truly identify what caused your addiction in the first place. There are so many pathways to recovery that more information and more tools you can use to overcome trauma, addiction, and mental health could only strengthen your overall understanding and pursuit of a sober lifestyle.

"You've just shifted your addiction from alcohol to running."
I hear it all the time.
    But here's the thing.
Alcohol is always the easy choice.
Running is always the hard choice.
    Alcohol is a way out.
    Running is a way in.
    Alcohol constricts the mind.
    Running expands it.
    Alcohol mutes the senses.
    Running electrifies perception.
    Alcohol removes you from reality.
Running places you squarely in it.
    Alcohol fuels false bravado.
Running forces a confrontation with humility.
    Alcohol lies.
    Running tells the truth.
    Alcohol begets denial.
    Running begets acceptance.
All roads with alcohol lead to loneliness.
All trails with running lead to community.
    Alcohol stole my life.
Running gave birth to a new one.
In other words, alcohol is a prison.
    Running is freedom.
Because to drink is to run away.
But to run is to drink in wonder.
    ✌🏼🌱🏃🏽‍♂️ -Rich Roll
PS - my backyard is dope.
PPS - swap 'alcohol' for any addictive substance or behavior that moves your life in the wrong direction.
PPPS - swap 'running' for your preferred spiritual practice, mode of movement, or healthy habit that moves you in the right direction.

ONE on ONE with Coach Blu: Emotional Intimacy and Relationships Feb 09, 2023
    Show notes

Today we discussed Emotional Intimacy and Self Sabotaging Relationships. Emotional Intimacy is the ability to connect on a deeper level with a partner through healthy communication, expressing one's feelings, building trust, and being vulnerable. Fear of abandonment is a primary cause of self-sabotage. Research shows that people might self-sabotage for other reasons like trust issues, limited relationship skills, unrealistic expectations, or low self-esteem. Increasing emotional intimacy skills can help improve relationships and strengthen old ones. Blu and Marissa share how negative self-talk and thinking can become destructive to others around you if not worked through. It's essential to seek professional help and gain self-awareness to improve your relationships with others and become stronger. This is our weekly live show, One on One with Coach Blu. Coach Blu is a licensed mental health therapist and certified substance use disorder counselor. Today's cohost is Addict II Athlete's own Athletic Director, Marisa Robinson.
