035: Rumination & How to Do Less of It With Jenna Overbaugh Aug 15, 2022
    Show notes

Ahh, I can’t stop ruminating (worrying)! The thoughts just keep coming no matter what I do! Ever find yourself here? Yeah, you’re not alone! I used to ruminate every day, and oftentimes I didn’t even realize that I was doing it until I was in full blown panic mode. But with lots of practice, I stopped going down the rabbit hole of worries and what-ifs. And even though you might not believe it right now, it’s possible for you, too!

So for this episode, I wanted to chat with someone who also has personal experience with rumination. And cue my amazing friend and therapist, Jenna Overbaugh! Jenna not only has personal experience with rumination, but she also teaches people on a daily basis how not to ruminate.

In this episode, Jenna and I chat about:

    • What rumination is & what it can look like
    • Why people ruminate
    • Things people often ruminate about
    • How to resist ruminating
    • How to gain freedom from rumination (yes, it is possible!)

034: How My Relationship With Anxiety & Myself Changed (for the better) When I Became a Mom Aug 08, 2022
    Show notes

I became a mom nearly 2 years into my recovery from anxiety, panic disorder, and agoraphobia, after struggling for 15 years. And if you would have told me years ago that I would be talking to you about how becoming a mom has positively impacted my relationship with anxiety in so many ways, I would have laughed out loud. And quite honestly, all of this is so crazy because a big part of me was convinced for a long time that I’d never be a mom, partly because of my struggles with anxiety, panic disorder, and agoraphobia.

But becoming a mom has truly only strengthened my healthy relationship with anxiety. It has emphasized so many things that I learned and practiced throughout my recovery, and it has also reinforced that it's absolutely possible to live a VERY full life without anxiety, panic, and fear getting in the way!

033: Trauma Healing, Regulating Your Nervous System, & Somatic Therapy w/Jamie McCoy Aug 01, 2022
    Show notes

Jamie McCoy is a licensed psychotherapist and a trauma recovery coach. And a big reason why Jamie does the work that she does today as a coach, is because she personally experienced a lot of health challenges and found that many traditional therapies just weren’t helpful. She felt that many therapists didn’t understand the challenges that she faced, how the challenges affected her mental health, and how the mind and body are connected.

Years ago, Jamie found herself going from doctor to doctor, being given a lot of random diagnoses, and being given medications like antidepressants and benzos for anxiety, which only made things worse. And then Jamie was diagnosed with Lyme disease and a handful of autoimmune conditions. After being diagnosed, Jamie spent years studying and connecting the dots of her body's breakdown to learn what she needed to build it back up. And addressing the mental, physical & environmental toxicity were the three most important pillars to Jamie regaining her health. Now, Jamie is thriving, and her passion is helping others to connect the pieces of their own healing puzzle and process the trauma that comes with that experience.

In this episode, we dive into:

    • What nervous system dysregulation is
    • Why you haven’t “always just been an anxious person”
    • What nervous system regulation looks like
    • What somatic therapy is
    • Truths of trauma healing
    • Signs of healing

So much of what’s shared about anxiety recovery is about what you CAN or SHOULD do, and what tips and tools you can use that will be helpful, but there’s not much about the flipside, right? Meaning all the things you maybe don’t have to do (or even should do) in order to recover. Because the reality is that you can’t and you don’t have to do it all in order to recover, and the recovery journey is actually a whole lot about doing less.

In this episode, I cover 6 things that I didn't do to recover from anxiety, panic disorder, and agoraphobia. And these 6 things will provide you with lots of insights, tips, and inspiration that will help you keep moving forward on your recovery journey with more ease.

029: Meditation Hasn't "Worked" For You? Here's Why! With Emily Kessler Jul 04, 2022
    Show notes

Have you ever tried to meditate and felt like you sucked at it or felt like it wasn’t helpful? Yeah, you’re not alone! Meditation is often a big recommendation when it comes to finding some relief from anxious thoughts, feelings, and stress, but how do you do it? And how do you do it and enjoy it? How do you do it and actually experience the benefits of practicing it? How do you become good at it? Trust me, I’ve had all of these questions myself!

In this episode, I sat down with Emily Kessler, a meditation teacher, marketing director, live event producer, and talent manager. And the work she does is so stinking cool! She simplifies meditation and helps people to actually enjoy meditation. Emily believes that the more we can look inwards for fulfillment, joy & a sense of purpose, the more we will find all three. She also believes that meditation doesn’t have to be scary, complicated, difficult or spiritual. And everyone has the ability to establish a simple, daily practice that has huge benefits!

In this episode, we dive into:

    • What meditation is
    • The benefits of meditation
    • Why people land on the idea that meditation doesn’t work
    • What “sitting with it” and being okay with the thoughts and feelings means
    • How meditation is a foundation that allows you to experience less stress and anxiety
    • How to become a meditator
    • Emily walks us through a 5 minute meditation for anxiety
