    A Frayed Knot

A Frayed Knot is the podcast of Jill McCormick and Robin Wall. Our stories matter and make us who we are. Every other week our guests share stories that matter, the stories that make us who we are. Even though our stories have knots, we are not afraid. Our stories are frayed. They’re not perfect. We believe the truth of our mess makes us stronger. We hope that God uses these stories to encourage and strengthen your faith as you trust in Him.

EP 041, Tracy Zserdin, A Frayed Knot May 22, 2020
    Show notes

What if you raise up your child in the way they should go, but they go a different direction? The story on A Frayed Knot today is an honest look at this scenario. Tracy Zserdin is a wife, mom, fitness expert, and co-founder of a company called Made Possible By. She and her husband have two boys and a grandson. She shares with us what it’s like to have a child with behavioral difficulties and what it's like to walk through life's ups and downs with that child. She includes the struggles of bringing a challenging child to church and venturing out in the world, in general. Parents who are dealing with behavior issues of their child will relate to Tracy's authentic vulnerability and tenacious love for her son. One thing Tracy says is, “Fear is not irrational, but for the believer, fear is illogical, because our God is all-powerful.” Our God is sovereign and good, no matter the circumstance. This encouraging story is filled with faith and standing on the promises of God. #fearinparenting #insecureporcupine #overcomingfearwithfaith #redemption #whyisatrap #truthwillsetyoufree Rachel Chan "Even Here" Jesus Calling, Bible Study Romans 8:15-16 Isaiah 40 & 41 Zephaniah 3:17 John 16:33 John 9:1-4 Tracyzserdin@gmail.com Twitter- tzserdin Instagram- @tracy_z_thats_me

In this episode, we are grateful that we got to sit down with our friend, Heather Maxwell Carnes. We wanted to talk to someone on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic, and Heather agreed to share her story with us, and her experience throughout this unprecedented health concern. Heather is a nurse and has been working in a hospital throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. Heather shares her story of growing up in a Christian home and how she came to know Christ. She also shares about the power of praying family and friends when she started drifting from Jesus and how “something” (their prayers) kept bringing her back. She shares about how God brought her husband, Eric, to her as she came back to Him. We also talk about overcoming fear during this crucial time. Phil. 4:6

EP 039, Angi Bruss Gavin, A Frayed Knot Apr 24, 2020
    Show notes

Y’all, we had so much spiritual warfare that hit during this recording! From technical difficulties to social distancing- it was a challenge. But...this message is amazing! Angi Bruss Gavin is precious and she shares several "frayed knots" from her life with us. She shares candidly with us about God changing her job direction and how difficult that was. She opens up with us and shares about the death of her beloved father. She learned through these times that God is FOR HER, and He is for us all! She also shares briefly and discreetly about a molestation that happened when she was a child. We want to let you know this in case this is a triggering topic for you. We discuss the COVID-19 Pandemic, and how we can trust God through it. We're so glad you're listening in.

EP 038, Kim Cusimano, A Frayed Knot Apr 10, 2020
    Show notes

Dear listeners, this conversation was recorded before we entered the COVID-19 pandemic. We hope and pray that you and your loved ones are safe and healthy during this time of quarantine. We also wanted to continue to send uplifting and encouraging stories of how God gets us through our knots and frayed times. We hope this story will remind you that God is with you and can still give you joy in the midst of trials. Kim Cusimano has been through it! She and her husband, Joe, have four children between the ages of 16 and 23. They were all four adopted from Korea. Joe and Kim's journey to adopt these children and the challenges in raising them have been anything but easy, but through it all, God has shown Himself powerful and present. Two of their four children have severe needs, one emotional/mental, one physical/developmental. This journey takes us through adoption, uncertainty and loving wonderful kids who have special needs. There is something for everyone in it. Kim has also followed the Lord's leading in creating a website and a place of respite and encouragement to other families dealing with these sorts of situations. We love her heart and her willingness to obey God, even in the hard places. She chooses joy, and she reminds us that we can, too. #fulljoyministries.com

EP 037, Michelle McCarver, A Frayed Knot Mar 27, 2020
    Show notes

Listeners, when this was recorded, COVID-19 had not hit our world yet. We were blissfully unaware of the storm headed our way as we had this conversation. We pray you and your loved ones are safe and well. We pray that God reminds you of His faithfulness as you hear this episode. Our sweet guest, Michelle McCarver, teaches music at Undercroft Montessori School in Tulsa. She and her husband Lance have two children, and their journey to become parents was anything but easy. Michelle and Lance struggled with infertility for years. She shares candidly with us about their efforts with IUI and IVF. This process was not a smooth transition to parenting. The number "seven" in the Bible is significant, and you will hear how God made that number important in Michelle’s story as well. God is faithful. He is good. He is kind. We don’t pretend to understand all His ways but we trust that He works all things for His good.

YOU ALL ARE NOT READY FOR THIS! We are so, so excited about this episode with Jamie Golden! Jill, especially, has been fan-girling and still can't believe God allowed this. If you listen to the Popcast or the Bible Binge podcasts you know exactly who this is, and if you don't, you should! Download right now! Jamie Golden is one of the podcasters and partners of the Popcast Media Group. The podcast is "a show that is dedicated to delightful idiocy and educating you on the things that entertain, but do not matter." The Bible Binge is a show where they recap stories from the Bible as if they were a book, a TV show, or a movie. It makes Bible stories come to life. Jamie tells stories today with humor, humility and truth. She will share a story of when God told her to take a leap of faith and quit her job without knowing what was coming next. You will also hear a crazy story of a car accident with another driver that was not what she was expecting! She reminds us that the Word is a lamp unto our feet, not a floodlight on a football field. We also learn that "Comedy breaks down walls so Truth can enter." We laughed so much and had a blast doing this interview! You are going to love it! EP 035, Brenda Liniger, A Frayed Knot Feb 28, 2020
    Show notes

This episode of A Frayed Knot shows how real Colossians 1:17 is: "He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together." God has shown Himself to be so faithful in holding things together for our guest, Brenda Liniger. She candidly shares her story with us, opening up and being vulnerable so that God can use her life to bless others. She is such a fun and real person. You all will love how authentic she is. We talk about her growing up in a Catholic family, but not really ever opening the Word or understanding anything about it. She didn’t meet Jesus until after she was grown and married. Brenda shares that there are hard things in marriage, but it is still good to push through that with your spouse. We talk about shame and what that does to a person; in particular, Brenda opens up about the shame she dealt with after a sexual assault in her teens.. It’s an important message. Brenda also shares with us that, although her parents are wonderful grandparents to her children, she has painful memories of her growing up years. She loves her parents and appreciates them very much, and prays for God to bring all of her family closer. It's something many people may identify with. You may have walked a similar road, and Brenda's story is for you. Psalm 91:2 1 Peter 5:7 Galatians 1:10
