    A Frayed Knot

A Frayed Knot is the podcast of Jill McCormick and Robin Wall. Our stories matter and make us who we are. Every other week our guests share stories that matter, the stories that make us who we are. Even though our stories have knots, we are not afraid. Our stories are frayed. They’re not perfect. We believe the truth of our mess makes us stronger. We hope that God uses these stories to encourage and strengthen your faith as you trust in Him.

EP 062, Tonya Loving, A Frayed Knot Mar 15, 2021
    Show notes

Tonya Loving lives up to her name! She loves her kids at school, her family, and others fiercely. If you are thinking 'strength and forgiveness,' she will come to mind. Tonya works at Stone Canyon Elementary in Owasso Public Schools. She knows the students in that building by name and they know she is there for them. She is a wife, mom, and grandmother-with the name Lovee! ❤❤ She is going to share about a horrible tragedy that happened to her family in 2011. The unthinkable occurred when her pregnant niece was murdered in a drug incident. What happens next is a story of forgiveness and seeing others as people who are more than the worst thing they've ever done. Her mantra is to tell her students, "Let your light shine!" You can let the light win or you can let the dark win. We may not understand why God lets us walk in some dark places, but we have to keep moving towards His Light. Her story is truly inspiring! EP 061, Ricki Lea Moore, A Frayed Knot Mar 01, 2021
    Show notes

This one is a tear jerker. You all are going to love hearing from Ricki Lea Moore. She and her husband live in Lexington, Oklahoma, where Doug is the Youth Minister at First Baptist Church, Lexington. Doug and Ricki Lea have five beautiful children, and Ricki Lea shares with us the story of one of those precious children going to heaven. This story begins with their son, Xander, being diagnosed with cancer at age 2 1/2. This was a nine-year-long, excruciating battle of hills and valleys. One of the things Ricki Lea shares with us is that she learned God's greatest purpose is not always for our immediate comfort. She reminds us that God will carry us through our darkest hours. He is there in your midst and wants to "dazzle you" with His plan, as Xander would say. Isaiah 43:1-3 #afrayedknotpodcast#ButGod#dazzle#cancer

EP 060, Janet Dance, A Frayed Knot Feb 15, 2021
    Show notes

Happy Belated Valentine's Day, everyone!!! Let's talk marriage and relationships. Janet Dance and her husband, Mark, have spent years ministering to married couples. Mark is currently serving in Pastoral Development for Oklahoma Baptist Ministers, and formerly served with Lifeway and pastored several churches. Janet has been by his side every step of the way. They have been married for 33 years and have two grown children. We get to talk to Janet all about this today. Janet wears many hats and is a talented jack of all trades. She has been a teacher, a dietician, a seamstress, taught at a university, is currently a realtor! What an overachiever! (Enneagram 3, y'all). One of the things we talk about is what it's like to grow up as a Preacher's Kid (a.k.a.: P.K.) and the pressures that can come with that. Janet went through some hard things in regards to finding herself and not just being what she thought others expected her to be. (Heads-up: there is some discussion on cutting.) Her passion is for marriages and making them work. She gives us some great ideas for working on our marriages. If you aren't married, stick around and check this out! This is good relationship advice. 1. Connect every day. 2. Date weekly; never stop dating. 3. Get away at least once a year. 4. Fight it out...fight for your marriage to be great. The year 2020 left quite a wake of destruction in its path. Jay is a husband, father and new grandfather! He is so in love with this grandbaby! He and his wife Jen have built a beautiful life and family. Marriage matters... That's what our guest today will talk about. While HeatherMcAnear's parents' divorce when she was in high school was devastating to her, it sent her on a path for passion for marriages. Even at a young age, before she met her husband, she knew marriage was precious. Heather and her husband, Garrick, have 3 children and live in Oklahoma City. They have a ministry for married couples, called Marriage Matters, at Council Road Baptist Church. Heather gives us so much wisdom today. She shares Six Pillars of Marriage that she and Garrick teach in depth with the couples they mentor. The Six Pillars are Communication, Sexual Intimacy, Conflict Resolution, Financial Planning, Relationships with In-laws, and Roles in Marriage. She talks about date night questions for couples to ask each other, such as...How can I serve you in this season of life? How has the Lord grown you through our marriage? What is your favorite memory from our early years? How do you feel most loved by me? You are going to love her story of how she met her husband and the importance of keeping marriages strong! EP 053, Desha Clawson, A Frayed Knot Nov 06, 2020
    Show notes

If you've ever had chronic pain and wondered how you would ever make it through the valley, this episode is for you! And, if you haven't... it's still for you! None of us knows what's around the corner, and there will certainly be a time that we will relate to this story in our personal lives or in the lives of our loved ones. Desha Clawson has been married to her husband, Casey, for 40 years. They have four sons and two daughters-in-law. She is so amazing and someone Robin and Jill desire to emulate! Last year, she had been dealing with TMJ and went to have it checked out. It turned out that she needed a partial jaw replacement. If you've ever had mouth pain, you know it is all-consuming. At this same time, she was dealing with sciatic pain from a previous rollerblading accident! (How much do we love that she rollerblades?) The pain became so severe that she found herself having confusing thoughts about ending things permanently. Thankfully, she reached out to Jesus and he provided a way out. She gives us great lessons on what her take-away lessons were from the whole experience from which we can all benefit. What a great reminder of God's faithfulness toward all of us!
