    A Frayed Knot

A Frayed Knot is the podcast of Jill McCormick and Robin Wall. Our stories matter and make us who we are. Every other week our guests share stories that matter, the stories that make us who we are. Even though our stories have knots, we are not afraid. Our stories are frayed. They’re not perfect. We believe the truth of our mess makes us stronger. We hope that God uses these stories to encourage and strengthen your faith as you trust in Him.

EP 050, Divina Bruss, A Frayed Knot Sep 25, 2020
    Show notes

Divina Bruss is super cool! You will love hearing her story of how she came to know the Lord after dealing with heartbreak. She fell in love with Him and His Word quickly, and that has never left her. She has a passion for the Bible and instilling that same passion in others. Divina is married to Brian Bruss, who (fun fact!) Robin and Jill have both known for years. He is the Campus Pastor of Life Church on their Norman Campus. Divina and Brian have 4 children, ages six to ten, whom they homeschool. You will hear Divina talk about the pain of dealing with a past boyfriend who had multiple affairs and had an issue with pornography. This pain, however, launched her into realizing her need for a Savior. Around that bend was a beautiful story of loving Jesus, meeting her husband and raising a family. She is now a full time photographer and involved in Women in Ministry. She is a proponent for Leading and Loving It, a ministry for building up women as leaders in the ministerial realm, as well as leadership in general. EP 048, Sennola Fruga, A Frayed Knot Aug 28, 2020
    Show notes

Wow, do we have a good one for you today! Sennola Fruga is our guest, and we loved everything about this conversation. She and her husband, Alvin, are the pastors of The Presence in Owasso Church. They have recently celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary! They have four adult kids and ten grandchildren; they came from California to Oklahoma because God told them to! Sennola shares candidly about how that story played out in a modern-day Abraham and Sarah experience. We talk about how God turns disappointments into blessings, and that if we will come and submit our gifts, God will make room for us. We need to learn to walk in the grace He so freely gives. He sees behind every closed door. You will love the story of how this couple met and how God told them to come to Oklahoma when they didn't even know what that life would look like. A couple of gems that we especially loved from this conversation: "My yes is yes, even when my yes is scared," and, "Who are you trying to measure up to? All have sinned." This is one you don't want to miss. #afrayedknotpodcast #azusaconference #thepsalmistandtheshepherd #bishoptudorbismark

    EP 047, Enneagram 8, 9, 1 Aug 14, 2020
    Show notes

Today is our last episode in our Enneagram Series! We will cover the Gut Triad: Enneagram Types 8, 9, and 1. These numbers are intuitive and draw from their innate ability to make decisions. They are also called the Anger Triad, and each type deals with anger in a different way. Terri Vaughn is representing our Eights. She is assertive, decisive, and a challenger. If there is a move that needs to be made, she will do it. Eights are for justice, fairness, and looking out for their own. They are tough on the outside, soft on the inside. Our very own Robin Wall is our Nine. Nines are peacekeepers. They do not like conflict. They can see every side to a problem. Nines often have a hard time finding their type because they relate to every type! They would like for everyone to get along. Amy Simons is our One. Ones are the perfectionists or reformists. They see what needs to be fixed and fix it. They have to deal with an inner critic that tells them what is wrong and what needs to be corrected. When they say they will do something, they do it. We have had so much fun with this series! If you have questions or desire more topics within the Enneagram, please let us know! #enneagram #9types #afrayedknotpodcast

    EP 046, Enneagram 5, 6, & 7 Jul 31, 2020
    Show notes

This is Episode Three of our series on the Enneagram! Today we are diving into the Head Triad. These Enneagram types think first, and then feel or do. They also all three deal with fear in different ways. Our three guests give us insight into how they see the world. David Simons is our Type 5. He is analytic, skeptical, and intelligent. Enneagram Fives are our observers and/or investigators. They are typically introverted and analytical, motivated by a drive to understand and gather knowledge. Tamara Thompson is our resident Type 6. She is also Jill’s sister! Enneagram Sixes are our Loyalists. They are the “ride or die” friends They look out for the whole, and what is best for everyone. They tend to fight with anxiety and “worst case scenario” more than others. They are motivated by a need for security and consistency. Jill McCormick is repping our Enneagram Sevens! Sevens just want to have fun! They are known as the enthusiasts and are very "big picture," rather than "detail" people. They tend to fight with just wanting more of the fun thing. Sevens love adventure and keeping things light. They are motivated by avoiding pain. This is a great behind the curtains of Fives, Sixes, and Sevens. Enjoy! #enneagram #9types #afrayedknotpodcast

    EP 045, Enneagram Numbers 2, 3, 4 Jul 17, 2020
    Show notes

Continuing on with our series on the Enneagram, we are going to look deeper at the Twos, Threes, and Fours. This is the Feelings Triad, meaning these people are feeling-dominant. They are warm, creative, and complex. Our three interviewees share candidly with us how they see the world. Mattie Johnston is a Two. Her need is to be appreciated and be a Helper to those around her. Twos have a servant heart and want to meet the needs of others. Eric Wall is a Three. Threes' ability to achieve and perform is their biggest motivator. Threes feel a need to be acknowledged for their accomplishments. They are creative and go-getters. When they have a goal, they get it done! Quinn McCormick is a Four. Fours are probably the most complex type on the Enneagram. Fours are extremely creative and unique. There is a sense of melancholy underneath the surface that they are comfortable with, and they bring texture and color to the world. EP 044, Enneagram Series, Intro with Jill and Robin Jul 03, 2020
    Show notes

Let’s talk enneagram... what is it, why does it matter. Robin and Jill have been greatly influenced by this personality system! How can that be? Well, we will discuss all of this in today’s episode. We will tell you a little if it’s history, why it goes deeper than other systems, and explain the 9 types. We have begun a series that will takes through 4 episodes. I am not kidding when I say, it has changed the way I deal with myself and others. It’s given me more grace for others and a deeper understanding of why I do what I do. God is so clever in how he has developed each of us individually and the different gifts we bring to each other. EP 043, KJ And Cambri Washington, A Frayed Knot Jun 19, 2020
    Show notes

So, let’s talk about it.. the racial inequality in our country is something we all have a front-row seat to right now. So, we pushed some episode ideas back for a couple of weeks because we wanted to have a straight discussion about these important things going on. We want to face the issues and discuss how we can navigate these difficult waters with wisdom. KJ and Cambri Washington are a beautiful mixed race couple that go to First Baptist Church of Owasso. We asked if we could get their perspective on some things, and they were kindly willing to do that. We talk about what it was like for them dating, and how they have experienced systemic racism; we talk about the police, and yes, we go all those places. This couple is so wise and honest! Something Cambri says we should be doing is to listen, believe the stories, make it personal, and empathize with others. We know this is a hot button for a lot of people right now and our goal is to have real, honest conversations about how to see God in the midst of the messes in our world. He is working through our struggles. Resources: 30 Minutes with the Perrys Podcast Just Mercy 13th Documentary The Hate You Give (even) Hairspray
