108.9 The Hawk with Jason Gore and Geoff Garlock

108.9 The Hawk is a classic-rock radio station broadcasting from Val Verde, the strangest city in America. Hosted by Jason Gore and Geoff Garlock and featuring your favorite comedians, The Hawk presents a fully fictional world of DJs, fake sponsors, live remotes, and station drama — all in service of keeping classic rock alive on a dying medium.

    Happy Styxgiving Nov 24, 2025
    Show notes

It’s Thanksgiving in Val Verde, and while the rest of the station’s staff takes the day off, Whisp Turlington and Geoff “The Angry Man” Garlock are stuck doing a full-day broadcast — turkey cooker under Art Spart’s board, sponsored by Bert’s Funeral Flowers.

Everything’s normal until a familiar blonde head appears on the Hawk’s ring camera:

    Tommy Shaw from Styx.

Before they can hit the delay, Tommy locks the station gates and holds the station hostage, demanding they play Kilroy Was Here in full — claiming it’s “the real Thanksgiving record.”

What follows is a broadcast filled with stuffing, softcore cinema, Styx lore and 108.9 The Hawk’s most festive hostage situation yet.

While you’re getting all your Black Friday junk, why don’t you also help out you favorite classic rock radio station!

    After Whispstock Nov 17, 2025
    Show notes

The dust has barely settled in Verde Park — and the souls (not deaths, legally) are still being counted. Whisp Turlington and Geoff “The Angry Man” Garlock return to the air after Whispstock 25, the ill-fated eight-day music festival that celebrated Whisp… and possibly ended civilization.

    • Whisp defends the festival, claiming the “482 deaths” were actually “souls captured and sent home courtesy of Whisp Turlington.”
    • John Mellencamp stops by to explain his time working the funnel cake stand — and why you should never finger John Mellencamp.
    • Geoff delivers a Good Rock Fact about Alfred Hitchcock nearly directing a Peter Gabriel movie.
    • Whisp reveals his new liquor line, Turlington Cognacs, co-founded with George Clooney.
    • Geoff and Whisp salute the ending of Greg Lemonsour's legendary podcast, "WTDG."
    • There’s confusion, regret, and a Zamboni that somehow killed both people and animatronic bears.

    Whispstock 25 Nov 10, 2025
    Show notes

It’s a big day in Val Verde — Whispstock 25 is live from Verde Park!

Whisp Turlington and Geoff “The Angry Man” Garlock broadcast right from the festival grounds with their foldable chairs, finger foods, and a borrowed FocusRong interface.

    • Whispstock 25 opens its gates with Blue Öyster Cult, Def Leppard, Tesla, Tassla, Alien Ant Farm, Breaking Benjamin, Neil Young with Big Al from Country Bear Jamboree, and the one and only Chuckles the Canceled Clown as emcee.
    • Whisp and Geoff navigate a day filled with cancelled acts, on-air rants about capitalism, and food from Finger Food Town and Crudité Town.
    • Kegstand, Steve Temple Pilots, and Art Spart all check in from the greatest — and strangest — rock festival in Val Verde history, with Art threatening to kill any Terminator that threatens the festival.
    • There’s live weather, Skynet internet outages, robot musicians, hernias galore.
    • Phones ring on the topic, “Who Shouldn’t Have Been Cancelled?”

Will The Real Whisp Turlington Please Stand Up? Nov 03, 2025
    Show notes

Will The Real Whisp Turlington Please Stand Up?

The real Whisp Turlington returns from the dimension known as Kokomo — or does he?

After a long absence, Whisp reappears at 108.9 The Hawk claiming:

    • He’s been replaced by a robot version of himself, built by Keith Talons at Talon Robots.
    • He’s spent “40 years in Kokomo time” using Madonna’s sling ring to travel between Beach Boys dimensions.
    • Geoff “The Angry Man” Garlock must figure out what’s real, what’s robotic, and why Mike Love keeps calling in from the Pepper Portal.
    • Plus! Steve Temple Pilots, WhispBot malfunctions, and quantum rock dolls. Sure. It all makes sense.

When Rock Was Rock with Joe Kwaczala Oct 20, 2025
    Show notes

It’s Fun Drop Wednesday on 108.9 The Hawk, and Whisp Turlington and Geoff “The Angry Man” Garlock welcome Pittsburgh rock promoter Jack Lundy (played by comedian Joe Kwaczala) — and he just won’t stop remembering.

From Cream to Chicago, The Doors to The Bee Gees, Jack can’t resist reminiscing about every band that ever existed, while Geoff and Whisp try to keep the show together, Scotty drops Napoleon Dynamite quotes, breaking the standing “No Drops From Napoleon Dynamite” rule!

    • Mystery Sound: Whisp tries to distract Jack with an old-fashioned game of Mystery Sound
    • Greg Lemonsour Meltdown: The Hawk’s dusty-groove music director joins in, only to be completely steamrolled by Lundy’s endless roll call of rock legends.
    • Art Spart’s Traffic Report: Val Verde’s favorite traffic reporter tries to get through his segment, but Jack hijacks it to talk about Traffic (the band).

Sponsored by Balloonapalooza, Joe Elliott’s Sugar Pouring Warehouse and Pizza Emporium!

    Guest Starring: Joe Kwaczała!

All Request Wednesday! Oct 13, 2025
    Show notes

    It’s All-Request Wednesday on 108.9 The Hawk!

Whisp Turlington and Geoff “The Angry Man” Garlock open up the request lines and yell about some of the things bothering them this morning - you know, like every morning radio show.

    • An in-depth debate about the infamous Dogboy at the Shartlesburg State Fair (and whether his paws were sanitary enough to handle funnel cakes).
    • Geoff attempts a spot-on Dogboy impression (debatable).
    • A detour into Hannity & Colmes (…or was it Pete Holmes?) morning radio theater.
    • Sticky’s Barbecue Shack mysteriously burns down mid-broadcast while Jason is supposed to be live on-site.
    • Business Roundup returns: Full-O-Water Gas Station, Twozy Onesie vs Onesie Twozy, The Ache Shack (no breathing hole!), and Billy Idol’s Bounce Weddings — yes, Billy Idol might personally set up your bounce house wedding and eat your hors d’oeuvres.
    • Plus: Good Geoff Facts finally gets its own sounder, we discover what a Fog Hat might look like.

Sponsored by Medieval Fights and Dave Matthews Pest Control!

    Show notes

This week, Geoff and Whisp reveal the winner of 108.9 The Hawk’s “DJ For A Day Contest,” Dutch Swanson (Matt Gourley), a 104-year-old Val Verde resident, WWII vet, and Judy Blume’s alleged ghostwriter (?!)

    • Contest Winner Gone Wild: Dutch thinks he’s won cash, gift cards, or at least a rain stick for the Tool & Die Festival. Instead, he’s handed the mic.
    • Judy Blume Confessions: Dutch claims authorship of Super Fudge, Forever, and Winds of War. According to him, there are “no atheists in foxholes—or in a Scottsdale motel room with Judy Blume.
    • Weather Report (Sort Of): Instead of saying “cold,” Dutch unleashes a rant about foxholes, mutton chops, and Sideburns Festivals.
    • Community Calendar: Tinker Tailor Soldier Pie eating contest, the canceled Goatee Fest and more!
    • Name That Director – 90s Edition!

Plus, payola scams, Rascal Flatts debates, a PSA from Geoff and a man with a tortoise-shell carapace for half a body.
