"I found happiness and it's not tied to anyone else."-Dr. Alisha Reed

Welcome to the first episode of Your Self-Care Prescription podcast and I couldn't be more thrilled to kick off this exciting journey with you all.

You may know me from my previous podcast, "The Fly Widow," where I openly discussed my life as a widow. While that was a significant part of my journey, I've come to realize that I am so much more than just a widow. It's time to break free from that label and embrace a broader identity.

So, why "Your Self-Care Prescription"? Well, it's all about me – yes, you heard that right – it's about my journey to self-discovery and happiness. I've discovered that true happiness doesn't rely on being with someone else; it starts within ourselves. And that's what this podcast is all about: exploring self-care, personal growth, and finding contentment within.

Together, we'll explore various aspects of self-care, and I'll bring you interviews, tips, and actionable advice to help you lead a happier and more fulfilled life.

In this episode, you can expect to hear: -Your happiness comes from within -Turning 44 and significance -Blocked chakras and communication -Accepting new relationships and friendships -The key to happiness

    Show notes

"Grief comes in waves, there are good days and bad days." -Dr. Alisha Reed

In today's solo episode, I'll be catching up with all of you and sharing my recent life updates. I had the honor of speaking at the Go Red For Women Luncheon organized by the American Heart Association, a cause that has been close to my heart for years but holds an even greater significance now after my husband's passing. My aim is to spread awareness about heart disease among women, as it remains the leading cause of death. During the event, I delivered a speech titled "Open Your Heart," which I'm excited to share with you.

Unfortunately, our family recently suffered another loss as my mother-in-law passed away, and we find ourselves on another grief journey. Please tune in to hear my story of opening my heart and how it helped me cope.

Remember to take care of yourselves, and cherish every moment with your loved ones as life can be unpredictable.

EP 86: The Black Widow ft Leslie Gray Streeter Feb 28, 2023
    Show notes

"The widowed person is ground zero for the grief." -Leslie Gray Streeter

She is "a writer, a mommy, a widow, a daughter, a darned good friend, and the person who'll eat fries with you after we run a marathon. Because fries are delicious."

WHO'S LESLIE GRAY STREETER? Born in hood-adjacent Baltimore City, Leslie is a University of Maryland College Park graduate, a veteran journalist and someone always looking for new ways to tell stories, both her own and those in her communities. She also really likes vegan cheese, because she's now a vegan and can't eat real cheese anymore. But she's mostly cool with it.

Leslie has done a lot of cool media situations, mostly from some bedroom or other, since "Black Widow" came out. It's not the tour she chose or even the world she thought she or anyone else were living in, but this book has found people in their lowest moments and helped them feel they were a little less alone.

    And that's her reward.

In this episode, you can expect to hear: -The Black Widow book -Leslie's widow story -What keeps Leslie going -Acknowledging the mess of being a widow -Widowhood and grief
