Week 1 Sunday Night Freestyle: Dallas catches an L on questionable penalty while Washington surprises Philly Sep 14, 2020
    Show notes

You didn’t need to adjust your television. Yes, Tom Brady was wearing a throw-back early-aughts Bucs uniform and DeAndre Hopkins was shredding defenses in the NFC West. It may have looked a bit strange but it was real, in the flesh football.

Terez Paylor & Charles Robinson recap all 13 games from the Sunday slate including the questionable call that ended Cowboys/Rams, Washington’s surprising comeback against the Eagles, Detroit's unsurprising collapse and Joe Burrow’s premiere performance in Bengal orange and black. They also chat about the Chief’s impressive Thursday night win over the Texans aided by Clyde Edwards-Helaire who is everything we thought he would be.

Week 1 Preview: Trubisky's first last shot, Clowney to the Titans and Von's season-long injury Sep 09, 2020
    Show notes

It’s finally here. The 2020 NFL season kicks off on Thursday night in Kansas City and there is plenty of news to discuss and games to preview.

Terez Paylor & Charles Robinson open the podcast discussing the Chicago Bears’ decision to name Mitchell Trubisky their week-one starter over recent addition Nick Foles. How long is Trubisky’s leash? If he gets yanked for Foles, will we see him in Chicago ever again? (2:25)

Our experts also break down Jadeveon Clowney’s decision to sign with the Tennessee Titans over the weekend. Were the New Orleans Saints really in the mix for the former number one overall pick or was that just online bluster? (8:30)

In the second half of the show, Terez & Charles break down five marquee week one matchups including:

    • Houston at Kansas City (18:20)
    • Cleveland at Baltimore (26:05)
    • Green Bay at Minnesota (32:00)
    • Tampa Bay at New Orleans (39:30)
    • Dallas at the Los Angeles Rams (45:25)

Finally, the guys close out the show addressing the presumed season-ending injury to Von Miller (54:40) and recapping the season finale of Hard Knocks: Los Angeles. (58:20)

2020 season preview, plus will the Saints go all-in on Clowney? Sep 04, 2020
    Show notes

In seven days, the 2020 NFL season kicks off in Kansas City as Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs face off against Deshaun Watson and the Texans. We can’t believe it either.

Charles Robinson & Terez Paylor devote the majority of the podcast to previewing the 2020 season. Who will win each division? Who will the three (yes, three) wild card teams be from each conference? Our experts weigh in on the AFC (4:15) followed by the NFC (28:40).

On Thursday night, reports surfaced that the New Orleans Saints could be interested in making a move for free agent defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. Terez & Charles talk about why going all-in on Clowney means the Saints are going all-in for a Super Bowl in 2020. (1:01:05)

As a special treat, the guys close out the show with an even more special guest. He defiantly stood up to a skeptical government board and spoke out against the cruelest of evils. Yes, Ander Christensen went viral this week imploring the city of Lincoln, Nebraska to call boneless wings what they really are: chicken tenders. Ander joins the pod to talk about his crazy week and his fight for proper chicken meat nomenclature. It’s the interview of the millennium. (1:04:15)

Alvin Kamara's trade potential and Leonard Fournette landing spots Sep 02, 2020
    Show notes

With the NFL season less than 10 days away, there's been a flurry of transactions and stories as the league and country face the reality that, yes, indeed the NFL season is going to happen very soon. Buckle up and get your fantasy teams drafted -- it's going to be a wild season.

The headline on Tuesday was a tweet from Josina Anderson reporting that the New Orleans Saints may be open to trading their star running back Alvin Kamara. Could he really be on the move or is it more posturing between the two sides trying to negotiate a new contract for the elite combo back (2:10)

Additionally, the Jacksonville Jaguars parted ways with running back Leonard Fournette. Terez Paylor & Charles Robinson talk about where things went wrong between Fournette and the Jags and speculate on a number of possible landing spots for the former fourth overall pick. (11:30)

The Jaguars certainly had an active few days as they also dealt disgruntled DE Yannick Ngakoue to the Minnesota Vikings for a pair of future draft picks. What does this mean for the Jaguars' long-term future as well as the Minnesota Vikings in a very winnable NFC North? (32:00)

On the coronavirus front, the league briefly got down to one player on the Reserve/COVID list before another four players tested positive last week, including Fred Warner, the San Francisco 49ers' young standout linebacker. Charles & Terez talk about how the league is walking a very fine line in regards to the pandemic as training camps end and teams transition into regular season play. (40:35)

Finally, the guys close out the episode discussing the fourth episode of Hard Knocks, which focused heavily on the Rams and Chargers players and staff reacting to the shooting of Jacob Blake. (44:40)

Thoughts on Kenosha, Wisconsin & the NBA walk-out Aug 27, 2020
    Show notes

Terez Paylor & Charles Robinson lay down their thoughts on another difficult week in America after Jacob Blake, a Black man in Kenosha, Wisconsin was shot multiple times by police, followed by the ensuing murder of two protesters by an out-of-state member who appeared to have been aided by local police. On Wednesday, the Milwaukee Bucks did not take the court for their first-round playoff game against the Orlando Magic in protest of these events, and soon the rest of the NBA's remaining teams followed suit with the full slate of games on Wednesday and Thursday being postponed. A number of MLB games were also rescheduled and many NFL teams have cancelled their practices in the last 24 hours.

While discussing how this may affect the NFL in two weeks when the season kicks off in Kansas City, Terez shares a personal story about why these issues are so important and how a mundane occurrence that might seem trivial to most is potentially dangerous for Black men and women in America.

Earl Thomas to Dallas isn't set in stone & NFL reacts to weekend of false positive tests Aug 26, 2020
    Show notes

Terez Paylor and Charles Robinson kick off this episode recapping Tuesday night's episode of Hard Knocks that saw little new insight or action aside from a beautiful in-person view of SoFi Stadium, the new $5 billion dollar home to the Rams and Chargers.

Moving onto some very strange news in the continuation of the offseason's major storyline, the return to play amid a global pandemic -- a whopping 77 league-wide coronavirus tests were deemed to be false positives over the weekend. Though clubs and league executives can safely breathe a sigh of relief after this event, the guys explain why this situation is a good thing for overall league preparedness. (12:40)

Additionally over the weekend, the Baltimore Ravens released All-Pro safety Earl Thomas after an altercation with a teammate. Charles & Terez explain why many teams will be reluctant to sign the star defender and why the Dallas Cowboys, who had long been linked with S Jamal Adams over the offseason, shouldn't be perceived as the odds-on favorite to land Thomas. (19:45)

Staying in Dallas, owner Jerry Jones made comments on Tuesday outlining the team's "new" policy for how they would handle national anthem protests...except for the new policy isn't new at all. The guys explain why Jerry and other hardline owners against players kneeling for the anthem would be better suited just letting the players do what they want. (35:00)

Later, Terez & Charles talk about Roger Goodell's appearance on Emmanuel Acho's "Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man," (41:30) before wrapping up the show with a little fantasy talk about the Indianapolis Colts and Pittsburgh Steelers. (48:15)

Kraft's prostitution case gets updated, Chiefs ban Native American headwear & the possibility of bubble NFL playoffs Aug 21, 2020
    Show notes

We know 2020 has been a long year, but if you can think all the way back to the scandal of February 2019, you may remember Patriots owner Robert Kraft was charged with two counts of soliciting prostitution at a spa in Florida. Eighteen months later, a Florida appeals court has ruled the video evidence of Kraft and other suspects inadmissible under the fourth amendment. Terez Paylor and Charles Robinson provide an update on the salacious story and how Kraft's expensive legal team carved a massive legal win for other suspects in the case as well as a class action lawsuit on behalf of innocent spa-goers who were illegally surveilled.

Later, Charles & Terez talk about a league conference call in which the idea was floated (and not brushed off) of playing out the 2020 playoffs in a campus or location similar to the NBA's bubble. (13:50)

Washington QB Alex Smith turned eyes this week as he made his return to the practice field, two years after a gruesome leg injury in which many doubted if he'd ever play again. The guys talk about his heroic comeback and how he has won, even if he never plays an NFL snap again. (20:35)

In Kansas City, the Chiefs announced on Thursday they would no longer permit fans to wear Native American-style headdresses, face paint or similar iconography that appropriates Native American culture. One month after the Washington Football Team ditched their former nickname, is this change enough in Kansas City and how will the fans react? (29:30)

Finally, Charles & Terez open the mailbag and discuss the NFL stadiums with the best food. (39:25)

Gerald McCoy, Jadeveon Clowney and the confluence of attrition and availability at NFL's first padded practices Aug 19, 2020
    Show notes

Terez Paylor and Charles Robinson open this late Tuesday night podcast with their thoughts on the second episode of Hard Knocks featuring the Chargers, Rams, Jalen Ramsey's house-hunting and Aaron Donald's shirtless abs.

Next, Charles and Terez discuss the attrition some teams are experiencing in the first few days of padded practice. With Cowboys defensive tackle Gerald McCoy out for the season, eyes in the league shift back to free agent defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. While Clowney and his camp believe attrition could help drive up the price for the former Seahawk and Texan, Charles argues that his opportunities are drying up as front offices around the league lose their patience. (20:45)

On a brighter note in this strange offseason, as of this taping, only twelve players sit inactive on the NFL's reserve/Covid-19 list. Could that number get down to zero soon or is the league destined to see that number creep up as more physical practices become the norm? (30:05)

The Washington Football Team made headlines this week as they hired former running back Jason Wright as their team president. The first ever Black man to have this role, Charles and Terez outline the struggles they could envision Wright encountering under notorious owner Daniel Snyder. (39:35)

Later, our experts try to determine who has the best chance of having a better season in 2020: Cam Newton or Josh Allen? (48:40)

Finally, they close out the episode discussing the draft predictions they've gotten tremendously right and horribly wrong over the years. (56:05)

Cowboys go all-in on D-line, plus who will be the next Kittle or Kelce? Aug 14, 2020
    Show notes

America's team made a huge addition to their defensive line in an all-in move for 2020, but before Terez Paylor and Charles Robinson get to that, more pressing matters must be addressed:

The Seattle Seahawks cut rookie undrafted free agent cornerback Kemah Siverand for attempting to sneak in a female companion (dressed as a man) into the team hotel, proving the continued need for an NFL snitch line. (0:20)

The Dallas Cowboys were in the news for multiple reasons this week. Terez & Charles address Dallas bolstering their defensive line with former Minnesota DE Everson Griffen, how Jerry Jones might handle players who kneel for the anthem and the team's plans to seat fans in "pods" when the season kicks off in a few weeks. (4:55)

It was a good day if you were one of the league's elite tight ends. San Francisco's George Kittle and Kansas City's Travis Kelce both signed massive multi-year extensions, completely resetting the market for a star tight end. Our experts break down what that means for the position and if the league could see an influx of ultra-athletic specimens at the position. (26:00)

Later, they look at the next class of TEs – Hooper, Hockenson, Fant, Andrews – who is the next Kittle or Kelce out of this young class? (40:00)

Finally, they close out the show addressing a listener question about which countries could develop the best international football leagues. (46:10)

As college football collapses, what will happen to the 2021 draft? Aug 12, 2020
    Show notes

With the 2020 NFL season five weeks away, so returns an August tradition: Hard Knocks. Terez Paylor and Charles Robinson open today's podcast recapping Anthony Lynn, Sean McVay, Jalen Ramsey and the season premiere of HBO's docuseries covering the Los Angeles Rams and Chargers.

While not every NFL fan watches college football, today's monumental news from the Big Ten and Pac-12 absolutely has an impact on football seasons to come. With the two conferences (and potentially more) deciding to cancel their fall seasons and potentially play their 2020 seasons in the spring of 2021, Terez and Charles look at what this means for the NFL. How will scouting departments adjust to limited tape on the incoming class? Could the 2021 NFL Draft be delayed? (16:25)

Last Thursday was the NFL's deadline for players to opt out of the 2020 season. Our experts take a look at the rosters most impacted by the opt-outs and how offensive line depth has been decimated this year. (38:00)

Finally, the guys open up the listener mailbag and answer a question about Joe Burrow and the Bengals (52:00) before issuing a surprising verdict in the grilled cheese and grape jelly quandary. (57:40)
