'Rudy' is an inspirational true story and mostly a work of fiction Jul 01, 2020
    Show notes

While Terez Paylor & Charles Robinson take a much-needed holiday break, the Yahoo Sports NFL Podcast brings back its favorite summer tradition: the football movie review.

This episode covers the 1993 college football classic Rudy, starring Sean Astin in the title role and including a pair of breakout performances from the previously unknown Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughn.

Charles & Terez break down the overwhelming obstacles the movie puts in front of Rudy and the absurd amount of creative license the movie takes with the story in order to tug at the heart-strings -- most of it untrue.

Don't worry, the guys will be back after the holiday weekend to analyze the Cam Newton news and anything else that happens in the world of the NFL.

What would the NFL look like without a 2020 season and does Jerry Jones need to speak up? Jun 24, 2020
    Show notes

Is a shortened or cancelled pre-season likely? Will any fans be allowed into the stadiums? What would happen if the 2020 season is cancelled altogether? (3:45)

Shifting gears to America's team, our experts interpret the conflicting comments from Demarcus Lawrence and Gerald McCoy about whether or not Jerry Jones should speak out against police brutality and systematic racism. (27:25)

They also talk about how Dak Prescott's contract extension and a possible trade for disgruntled Jets safety Jamal Adams are much more connected than you may think. (40:25)

The guys close out the show debating the best french fries in America. Things get heated and Charles gives you the secret to ordering fries at McDonalds. (49:30)

    Show notes

On Monday, news came out that multiple Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans players had tested positive for coronavirus including star running back Ezekiel Elliott, who took to Twitter to share his frustrations about the news going public.

Terez Paylor & Charles Robinson open this week's podcast discussing the bombshell report and looking at the fast-approaching reality that we're about to have an NFL season that will be distinguished by how COVID-19 wreaks havoc in locker rooms. How can teams actually manage the virus? (1:35)

How the Vikings have become a test-case for how NFL franchises could address anthem protests, police and more Jun 12, 2020
    Show notes

The murder of George Floyd has cast an unfortunate spotlight on the city of Minneapolis and in the coming months, we'll see how the city's institutions, including its sports teams, react. The University of Minnesota, for example, cut ties with the Minneapolis Police Department, but could we see the Vikings follow suit?

Terez Paylor & Charles Robinson open the podcast with some questions the NFL world must address in relation to the ongoing social unrest as a result of Floyd's death.

Is it a legitimate or an empty gesture that the NFL announced a plan to donate $250 million over 10 years to causes related to social injustice? What would it take for the Vikings, or any NFL franchise, end their relationship to their local PD? How should teams address players who wish to kneel for the anthem when games resume this fall?

Later in the show, Terez & Charles break down comments Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians made about potentially keeping one backup QB out of the facility this season as a "quarantine quarterback." (21:20)

They also discuss the league's consideration of decreasing the amount of pre-season games from four to two for each franchise. (25:50)

Charles describes the collective exasperation most franchises have with Jadeveon Clowney at this point, as the former first overall pick remains unsigned. (36:00)

Our experts wrap up the show with some listener questions about how organizations are handling the Black Lives Matter movement and which players with the franchise tag we could expect to see signed or traded. (43:45)

Behind the NFL's one-eighty on Black Lives Matter and what should come next Jun 10, 2020
    Show notes

This podcast left off last Thursday evening on a sour note. Drew Brees had made disappointing comments conflating disrespect for the American flag with protests against systemic racism and police brutality. My, how things have changed.

    Since that last podcast:

    - Brees issued an apology and publicly called out Donald Trump for politicizing and distracting from the players' message of seeking equality.

    - A video was posted with Patrick Mahomes, Odell Beckham, Jr., Michael Thomas, Deandre Hopkins and other stars issuing a request for the league to recognize Black Lives Matter and apologize for mishandling the player protest movement of 2017.

    - Roger Goodell responded to each of those demands and publicly apologized, as requested, but did not mention Colin Kaepernick.

Terez Paylor & Charles Robinson open this podcast discussing all those developments, the importance of Mahomes' involvement, how Goodell can redeem the Kaepernick situation and how all eyes will focus on Jerry Jones and the Cowboys as the NFL season and 2020 presidential election draws near.

Shifting gears to the football field, they discuss the recent news that Minnesota RB Dalvin Cook intends to hold out until he reaches a new contract agreement with the Vikings. (32:45)

Charles & Terez also discuss Todd Gurley passing his team physical with the Falcons and why the Atlanta offense should not be slept on in 2020. (40:15)

Our experts wrap up the show debating if Marcus Mariota could take on a Taysom Hill type role with the Las Vegas Raiders and speculate. how penalties would be enforced on the proposed "4th & 15" rule that would eliminate the onside kick. (43:45)

How Drew Brees missed the mark, coaches return to facilities and ranking the league's young QBs Jun 05, 2020
    Show notes

After a trying week and a half in this nation's history, Terez Paylor & Charles Robinson open the podcast this week discussing Drew Brees' comments about the kneeling for the anthem and the harsh criticism he faced in response from his teammates, colleagues, the press and public. Can he earn back the trust of other Saints players?

On Friday, 31 of the 32 NFL coaching staffs around the league can return to their facilities. What does this mean for the the start of training camps in July and how will the limited press access affect how fans consume and understand the game in 2020 and beyond? (20:20)

Terez & Charles wrap up the show breaking down the tiers of young QBs. Obviously Mahomes and Lamar are at the top, but where do the gifted but ultimately unproven talents of Dak Prescott, Jared Goff, Carson Wentz and Baker Mayfield rank? (32:50)

    Show notes

Later, they discuss the ongoing saga of Jets safety Jamal Adams and his desire to be traded to the Dallas Cowboys. What would the Cowboys have to do to get the deal done and is the asking price of at least a first and a third-round pick the same across the league? (18:45)

Terez & Charles provide an update on Seahawks defensive lineman Jadeveon Clowney who reportedly turned down a deal with the Cleveland Browns. Why did he turn down the best offer on the table and what is the status of the former first overall pick? (24:45)

    Show notes

Terez Paylor & Charles Robinson open today's podcast fresh off the news that ESPN has acquired a nine-part documentary about Tom Brady called "Man in the Arena," set to air sometime in 2021. The guys analyze Tom's move into the spotlight, ESPN's hope to capture some more lightning in a bottle off the success of "The Last Dance," and if we're in-store for a future of high-quality docs that shine a less critical light on past greats. (0:20).

Rooney Rule changes & how the NFL expects more positive COVID cases May 20, 2020
    Show notes

Some momentous changes to the NFL's diversity and inclusion policies were made on Tuesday afternoon via a digital meeting with owners, but before discussing that, Terez Paylor & Charles Robinson open today's podcast discussing the news of LeBron James' brief dalliance with the Cowboys. What position should the future NBA hall-of-famer have played and why aren't there more examples of basketball players making the leap to football? (0:30)

Paylor and Robinson break down the newest revisions to the NFL's Rooney Rule and declare that the biggest change got the least amount of headlines: teams are no longer able to block other franchises from interviewing their three coordinator positions. Our experts argue a new era of headhunting and poaching in the coaching and front office ranks could be in store. (9:30)

Later in the show, Charles and Terez break down from comments from league officials on Tuesday regarding the Coronavirus pandemic hint that the league is very prepared to press forward with the 2020 season with the expectation that some staff and players will test positive. (29:30)
