Week 11 Sunday Night Freestyle: Chiefs hold off Raiders, Packers defense shows holes, Ravens lose composure Nov 23, 2020
    Show notes

Week 11 of the 2020 NFL season is almost in the books save for a Monday night game and the playoff picture is coming into focus. The Kansas City Chiefs came back in the final two minutes to split their season series against the Las Vegas Raiders, the Green Bay Packers lost control of the first overall seed in the NFC after dropping a game (and the ball) to the Indianapolis Colts in overtime & the Baltimore Ravens appear to be in a tailspin after losing their second straight.

Charles Robinson & Terez Paylor recap all of the Sunday matchups from Week 11 as well as the continued tragedy that is the Philadelphia Eagles season, Taysom Hill's first win as a starting QB and the brutal season-ending injury to Joe Burrow.

Week 11 Mailbag: Should Cowboys blow it up with top-5 pick & how can Chiefs retain their core? Nov 19, 2020
    Show notes

In celebration of the podcast reaching 1000 reviews on Apple Podcasts, Terez Paylor & Charles Robinson do a mostly mailbag podcast as the season rounds into its final six weeks.

After an extremely necessary conversation about Justin Herbert's new haircut, Terez & Charles answer listener questions about what the Cowboys should do with their unexpectedly high draft pick in 2021, the Houston Texans' search for a new head coach and the Kansas City Chiefs' ability to retain their core of star players.

Later, they close out the show discussing the three matchups they're looking forward to most this weekend in Arizona @ Seattle, Green Bay @ Indianapolis and the Los Angeles Rams @ Tampa Bay.

Week 10 Sunday Night Freestyle: Hail Murray Nov 16, 2020
    Show notes

In Week 7, Seattle’s D.K. Metcalf chased down an interception by Arizona’s Budda Baker, preventing a touchdown in what was undoubtedly the most incredible play of the season up to that point. In Week 10, that conventional wisdom was usurped by another breathtaking play involving the Arizona Cardinals.

This time, with mere seconds left, down four, Kyler Murray threw up a 43-yard Hail Mary to DeAndre Hopkins that was miraculously pulled down and secured by the receiver Arizona had only traded for at the beginning of the year.

Terez Paylor & Charles Robinson open their Week 10 recap podcast discussing this astonishing play and how it leads to a must-win Thursday night rematch between Arizona & Seattle on Thursday night, where control of the NFC West is at stake.

Our experts recap all of the games from the weekend including Baltimore’s frustrating loss to New England, Miami winning its fourth straight game and the Philadelphia Eagles being on the verge of a total implosion, despite retaining a lead of the putrid NFC East.

Week 10 Preview: Imagining a 16-team playoffs, Todd Haley storytime & more Nov 12, 2020
    Show notes

The 2020 NFL regular season is just over halfway done, and despite ballooning COVID cases both in the league and nationally, it appears as if we'll get something resembling a complete season.

Terez Paylor & Charles Robinson open their mid-week podcast discussing the recently agreed-upon plans from the NFL's owners to institute a 16-team playoff field in the case that regular season games are cancelled. Would Kansas City/Miami be of interest to anyone? Or what about New Orleans/Arizona? Our hosts break down the two conference playoff seedings as they stand today while the league still combats the coronavirus and even stars like Aaron Rodgers question the NFL's safety protocols.

Later in the show, Terez & Charles discuss the NFL owners also voting to amend the Rooney Rule in order to award compensatory draft picks to franchises whose lower-level minority coaches and executives get hired to head coach and GM positions. They also chat about Raheem Morris' stint as interim head coach of the Atlanta Falcons and whether owner Arthur Blank could hire him to the role in a more official sense this offseason. (20:50)

Closing out the episode, the guys open up the reader mailbag and share some stories about Todd Haley (after Matt Cassel told quite a story of his own on NBC Sports Boston) and try to determine which team in the horrid NFC East has the best chance of reversing their fortunes in the long-run. Week 9 Sunday Night Freestyle: Tua & Kyler show the promise of NFL's future while Brady throws a dud vs. Brees Nov 09, 2020
    Show notes

Sunday evening gave us two stark versions of the NFL's old guard and its new generation at the quarterback position. Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints blanked the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 38-3, while Tom Brady threw three interceptions. Only hours before, Tua Tagovailoa and the defensively stout Miami Dolphins pulled off a 34-31 road win against the electric Kyler Murray who put up 283 yards in the air and 103 yards on the ground for the Arizona Cardinals.

Terez Paylor & Charles Robinson kick off their Week 9 Sunday night recap podcast discussing these two games, as NFC dominance hangs in the balance. They also break down the Seattle Seahawks getting blown out against a surging Buffalo Bills team, Chicago's continued QB issues, and whether Deshaun Watson has a right to be miffed about the situation in Houston, as well as the rest of Week 9's slate of games.

Week 9 Preview: 2020 midseason awards and reckoning with another boring trade deadline Nov 05, 2020
    Show notes

Tuesday was certainly a day not without excitement in America. The Presidential race is still too close to call as of late Wednesday, but we do know what to call Tuesday's trade deadline in the NFL: boring.

Terez Paylor & Charles Robinson open up this midweek podcast reacting to the lack of major moves at the deadline and what it says about where most of the teams are at the season's halfway point.

Elsewhere in the league, there were reports this week that the NFL is mulling a 16-team playoff format that would eliminate the bye week and allow eight teams from each conference into the playoffs for one year only. Which teams stand the most to gain from this proposed scenario? (13:10)

Terez & Charles then devote the bulk of the episode to giving out their 2020 midseason awards. Is Tom Brady in the MVP conversation with the likes of Russel Wilson and Patrick Mahomes? Does Tua Tagovailoa have a chance to enter the apparent two-man race for offensive rookie of the year behind Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert? Mike Tomlin & Bruce Arians seem like frontrunners for the coach of the year award, but our experts argue that how Antonio Brown gels with the Bucs will ultimately play a huge role in how Arians is evaluated for that award. (19:25)

Finally, the guys close out the episode previewing three matchups they're looking forward to most in Week 9: New Orleans at Tampa Bay, Seattle at Buffalo and Baltimore at Indianapolis. (48:20)

Week 8 Sunday Night Freestyle: Ravens seem like the odd man out among AFC's elite Nov 02, 2020
    Show notes

It was a wild, windy Week 8 in the NFL where few things were predictable (except for the Kansas City Chiefs easily dispensing of the New York Jets). Terez Paylor & Charles Robinson kick off their Sunday night podcast recapping the clear game of the week between Lamar Jackson’s Baltimore Ravens and Ben Roethlisberger’s Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers held on late to defeat their division rival and remain the league’s only unbeaten at 7-0, showing that the Ravens, yet again, might be on the outside looking in when it comes to a spot in this year’s AFC Championship.

Terez & Charles recap all of the Week 8 games so far including Miami’s impressive defensive win over the visiting L.A. Rams, the sliding Titans’ loss to Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals & the fourth straight loss for Bill Belichick, Cam Newton and the New England Patriots, who Charles argues are due for a full-on rebuild.

Week 8 Preview: Which teams will be buyers at next week's trade deadline? Oct 29, 2020
    Show notes

Terez Paylor & Charles Robinson open the podcast this week discussing the state of a handful of rosters as the NFL trade deadline fast approaches. With a reduced salary cap coming next year, we can expect a lot of teams to be sellers, but which teams will be buyers, like the Detroit Lions & Seattle Seahawks, who made defensive additions in Everson Griffen and Carlos Dunlap, respectively?

Could the New England Patriots deal last year's Defensive Player of the Year, Stephon Gilmore? Will Super Bowl contenders like the Tennessee Titans & Green Bay Packers add that final piece as they plan to make deep playoff runs? Our experts spend the first half of the episode getting you primed for next week's big deadline.

Later, they preview the three Week 8 matchups they're looking forward to most:

The game of the weekend is the surely Pittsburgh Steelers traveling to face the division rival Baltimore Ravens. Not only will this game have playoff seeding ramifications, but how could this game affect the trade deadline as well? (25:05)

We'll get our first look at this year's fifth overall pick, Tua Tagovailoa as the Los Angeles Rams travel east to take on the Miami Dolphins. Will Aaron Donald torture the rookie for four quarters or will the lack of tape on Tua play to the Dolphins advantage? (31:40)

The NFC West is absolutely crazy when the worst team is the 4-3 San Francisco 49ers. They travel to the Seattle Seahawks coming off their first loss of the season to Arizona. If San Francisco gets the win, Terez & Charles explain how the division will turn into a bloodbath. (34:30)

Finally, the guys close out the show answering listener questions about the safety of Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer's job and Le'Veon Bell's chemistry in the Kansas City Chiefs locker room and more (38:00).

Week 7 Recap: Yes, we have to take the Arizona Cardinals seriously in the NFC Oct 26, 2020
    Show notes

Terez Paylor & Charles Robinson recap a wild Week 7 in which a handful of games came down to the wire, the first and foremost being the Arizona Cardinals' incredible comeback win in the final seconds of overtime versus the Seattle Seahawks.

Elsewhere in the league, the Lions, Browns and Chargers also pulled off wacky wins in high-scoring games, meanwhile the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Pittsburgh Steelers looked like legit Super Bowl contenders. Terez & Charles discuss it all as they touch on every game from Week 7, even the two games from the lowly NFC East.

Week 7 Preview: Infighting and finger-pointing less than two months into the Mike McCarthy era in Dallas Oct 22, 2020
    Show notes

Well, that didn’t take long. Less than two months into his first season with the franchise, Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is already the target of scrutiny after reports his players have lost confidence in his coaching following an embarrassing 38-10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Monday night. Terez Paylor & Charles Robinson open the podcast marveling at how quickly McCarthy’s good will has faded and how this particular instance has echoes of his final days with the Green Bay Packers.

Next, Terez & Charles discuss the Buffalo Bills’ loss on Monday to the Kansas City Chiefs. Was the early-season Josh Allen hype unfounded or did the Bills just get handled by a better team? Also, Terez explains why Clyde Edwards-Helaire & Le’Veon Bell are not competitors for the same share of snaps, but rather complementary pieces on Kansas City’s burgeoning run-game. (13:50)

On Tuesday, the Miami Dolphins announced they would be benching QB Ryan Fitzpatrick in favor of rookie Tua Tagovailoa. The guys explain why it was time for Miami to get the show on the road after the early success of Tagovailoa’s fellow first-rounders Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert. (21:00)

In a week, Antonio Brown’s eight-game suspension is due to conclude and the Seattle Seahawks have been deemed the favorites to land the troubled wideout. Our experts take an early victory lap after they had been predicting this uneasy marriage for a few months now, however Brown’s leash will be undeniably short due to the complicating factors of the COVID season. (26:25)

Speaking of COVID, the Las Vegas Raiders were forced to send all five of their starting offensive linemen home after contact tracing declared them potentially susceptible to COVID-19 after a single positive test on the team. Charles & Terez break down how this unfortunate situation will continue to rear its ugly head all season. Likewise, they discuss the possibility of the Super Bowl being pushed back as far as a month later than its typical early February date. (32:05)

Finally, our experts close out the podcast previewing five matchups to keep an eye on this upcoming weekend. (36:10)
