When Is It Codependent, and When Is It Healthy? Mar 22, 2023
    Show notes

Have you ever felt yourself giving and giving and giving, to the point that you're ignoring your own needs in any relationship? You may be in a codependent loop. Whether it's with a friend, family member, or romantic partner, these over-functioning and under-functioning dynamics are often destructive and abusive. If you haven't heard of codependency before, this is meant to be an intro to these behaviors, and help you understand why it is healthier to move away from them. Enjoy some updates on Mai-Ly's and Mandi's lives and we catch up via zoom from across the country.

Red Flag Discussions Mar 15, 2023
    Show notes

Hello hello friends! We're back this week with an episode all about red flags in dating and relationships. This is not an exhaustive list, but it is a great start. When it comes to flags, the more in tune you are with your gut and what issues case concern for you, the faster and better you'll be at not getting attached to people who don't have your best interests in mind. Please enjoy this episode! Share with your friends and family if you feel they could benefit from it.

    Relationship Killers Mar 08, 2023
    Show notes

There are four behaviors that come up in communication styles that are considered to be predictors of a relationship ending. In this episode, we are discussing these terms that the Gottman Institute has coined "The Four Horsemen". You've likely heard the words criticism, defensiveness, stonewalling and contempt, but have you looked at how they may be present in your relationships? Identifying them early and eliminating them from your communication patterns is key to long-term relationship happiness. You'll hear stories from both Mandi and Mai-Ly on how these relationship killers have presented (and ultimately ended) things in their previous relationships. Enjoy this episode, and please share it with your friends or social media if you feel others could also benefit.

We've been in all types of loving relationships, and the differences in love types are fun to explore. How many can you relate to? The title of the episode is a nod to the Aristotle quote "All friendly feelings toward others come from the friendly feelings a person has for himself." What did this episode spark for you?

Covert Narcissism - How to Spot It and Move Away From It Feb 01, 2023
    Show notes

Hello friends, this is the episode we have been teasing for a couple of weeks now. Have you heard of covert narcissism before? This maladaptive personality type is not always easy to spot, hence the "covert" phrasing. Covert narcs are often much sneakier and subtle in their lies and manipulations, but do not be fooled, they are just as dangerous as their more extroverted narcissist counterparts. Some of the traits we uncover in the episode are around the narc's charm, lacking self-awareness, recklessness in their finances and sexual encounters, blaming everyone around them, no long-term friends, gaslighting, creating confusion, and even mirroring to you exactly what you are looking for. It's believed that 1 in 200 people are diagnosable with NPD, and if you're a person who is empathic and caring you'll likely be targeted by a narcissist at some point. We'd love to hear what you thought of this episode. Please share it so that others may gain awareness and hopefully the courage to step away from a dangerous situation.

Friends, please enjoy this episode where we get into boundaries with therapist and friend of the show, Jessi Lee. We talk about how to recognize if one if our boundaries has been violated and the feelings that come as a result. Boundaries are an on-going practice. It takes regularly checking in and work to keep boundaries in tune, and we hope this episode brings you some valuable insight.
