Whelmed : the Young Justice files

Latest Episodes:

Discussion : Cameron Bowen : Robin III - Tim Drake May 10, 2017

Show notes

Hello team! Welcome to Discussions, our bonus episodes where we bring a special guest into the cave and talk about topics that relate to Young Justice as an entire series. Because of that, there are spoilers for both seasons everywhere. Consider yourself warned.

Today in the Cave, we welcome the incredibly talented, Cameron Bowen. Cameron's Television and Film credits begin in 1996 with Law and Order, and stretches across voice and live-action parts on Touched by an Angel, Frasier, ER, Mystic River, Seabiscuit, Malcolm in the Middle, Avatar: the Last Airbender, and of course, as the 3rd Robin, Tim Drake, in Season 2 of Young Justice.

Tune in to hear Rich geek out and then stick around and listen to everything Cameron has to share.

As always, thanks for listening and all your support. We appreciate each and every one of you more than we can express. If you have a moment to add some additional support, a rating and review on iTunes or your pod catcher of choice would help immensely. And if you have the ability to support us monetarily, we have a Patreon here.

Thank you all, and stay whelmed.

Discussion : Jeff Stormer : Superman and the 4th World May 03, 2017

Show notes

We are thrilled to welcome Jeff Stormer to the cave. Jeff is the host of the fantastic Actual Play podcast, Party of One. Party of One focuses on 2-player games, bringing guests on to tell intimate, and sometimes heartbreaking, stories from a variety of gaming systems. Recently Jeff invited me onto the show to play Dan Enders' painfully brilliant, The Bite, in which Jeff and I played ourselves, trapped in a room during a zombie apocalypse. The twist? One of us may have been bitten and there's only one gun with one bullet in the room. That game haunts me to this day in all the right ways.

Tune in to hear Rich geek out and then stick around and listen to everything Jeff has to share.

Thank you all, and stay whelmed.

Intel Update 4 Apr 28, 2017

Show notes

Hello Team! Since Rich and Caleb record episodes in advance, these quick Intel Updates will serve to let you all know in real time what's happening and what we're working on. These are much more casual than our regular episodes, so expect a little less editing and a little more joking around.

This update talks about the only currently confirmed news about Season Three. We also briefly touch on the soon-to-be-released Batman and Harley Quinn animated feature and our hate of a certain unnamed show on Fox that turned a very cool premise into a garbage fire. We also thank our current Patrons, answer Patron email questions, and read our iTunes reviews.

Oh yeah, and we release a huge, monumental, and exciting piece of information about the future of Whelmed. Tune in for this. You cannot miss it.

Thank you all, and stay whelmed.

Discussion : Jason Spisak Apr 26, 2017

Show notes

We are thrilled to welcome Jason Spisak to the cave. Jason's voice has graced many of our favorite shows, including Green Lantern: The Animated Series, Star Wars: Clone Wars, the Lego DC Universe, Justice League Adventures, and of course Young Justice. Jason has helped keep the memory of both Green Lantern and Young Justice alive through his personal YouTube channel by sharing amazing clips such as "Wally Reads the Classics", "Sing Along with Razor", and "Razor and Wally watch the DC Nation Finale".

Tune in to hear Rich geek out and then stick around and listen to everything Jason has to share.

Special thanks to Neal for his awesome editing work on this episode.

Thank you all, and stay whelmed.

Season One Bloopers Apr 21, 2017

Show notes

Welcome back to the cave.

Season one is done but there is one last thing to do before we move on to season two. It seems that someone kept recording while Rich and Caleb were goofing around. It might have been Red, but it was probably Robin.

Get ready for almost an hour of bloopers, tangents, shenanigans, bits, and ramblings. You'll hear them in sequential order from way back when we started recording episode zero.

We honestly don't remember what happened during most of these, so we kicked on the explicit warning, just in case. We probably used some grown up swears and made some off-color jokes.

Stay tuned for a huge and extremely important Intel Update next week. After that, you'll get some extra bonus Discussion episodes and maybe even see the return of Secret Origins.

And of course, season two is right around the corner, getting ready for summer.

Thank you all, and stay whelmed.

Discussion : Joseph Z : Fan Filming Apr 19, 2017

Show notes

Today in the Cave we have Joseph Z. Joseph and I have been talking behind the scenes about Young Justice, it's interpretation of the broader DC universe, and more specifically, about the Young Justice fan film he's working on and about being a creator of fan-projects in the modern day.

Tune in to hear Rich geek out and then stick around and listen to everything Joseph Z has to share.

Episode 24 : Usual Suspects and Auld Acquaintance Apr 14, 2017

Show notes

Welcome, team. Welcome to the last episode of season 1. This monumental occasion is being celebrated with a double episode. Hey, we started the season this way. It's almost like we planned it.

Before we go any further, thank you. Thank you for being a part of this amazing journey and encouraging us to follow our crazy dreams.

And with the emotional stuff out of the way, let's get on to our discussion of Usual Suspects and Auld Acquaintance.

These episodes wrap up all the threads, deliver all the payoffs, and drop off a few amazing teases for season 2. In this episode, get ready for a lot of long lists of names and special appearances by Rich's garbage truck and some very timely birds.

The episode segments are as follows: Hello Megan: 2:07 Mission Briefing: 3:46 Feeling the Aster: 13:07 Canary Debrief: 51:04 Crashing the Mode: 56:03 to 58:43

We also have 2 Fan Service features this week.

First is the art of Kelly Hartman. This was submitted to us by listener Bo Hartman. Hey, I think they're related. Check it out here.

Second is the AMV The Final Mission created by Lukequin90. This gorgeous video is a framed as a wrap up to the series when it originally went off the air. With that in mind, this AMV spoils pretty much everything that happens in season 2, so be warned. Enjoy it here.

Lastly, please remember #vandalsagavedidnothingwrong #lexluthorisagoodguy #redson

Thank you all, and stay whelmed.

He has been a voice actor since 1997 and has more credits to his name than we can mention here. He hosts the Voice Acting Mastery Podcast and is also a mythology scholar. What can't this guy do?

Tune in to hear Rich geek out and then stick around and listen to everything Crispin has to share.

Episode 23 : Performance Apr 07, 2017

Show notes

Hello team! Welcome to our discussion of Performance, the 3 ring, high-flying, Robin-focused episode that takes us right up to the last 2 episodes of season 1.

In this episode, we get Rich's favorite moment of season 1 and a long discussion about mystery games, elephants, and using in media res in storytelling. We also learn that Rich doesn't know pop songs.

The episode segments are as follows: Hello Megan - 1:39 Mission Briefing - 2:37 Feeling the Aster - 6:24 Canary Debrief - 16:20 Crashing the Mode - 24:14 to 30:31

For Fan Service this week, check out Remember Robin's Name, an AMV made by Ms94Baby, here.
