    In Between

I’ll bet you’re pretty good at starting over.
And are even pretty good at setting goals.
You know where you want to go.
You know what you want to be different.
    And you look ahead.

You see your end goal in sight.
    You get excited.
You plot your steps and start taking them.

    All is good so far.
But at a certain point, you reach that middle point.
    The in between.
The point between your starting point and your goal point.
    And it feels awful.

And this middle point, this point that is in-between where you start and where you want to finish… it’s a danger zone.
This is where you and most others generally quit.

    It’s new, it’s hard, it’s uncomfortable.
And no one likes being there.
How do you currently get out of the discomfort of the middle?
Typically, you give up. You quit.

But getting to the middle and giving up won’t get you where you want to go.
It will give you momentary relief from the discomfort of doing a new thing.
And then you will be right back at the starting gate.

Join me in this coaching session today, where I will show you how to get past the pain of being in between your starting point and your goal.
    No more U-turns.
    No more giving up.
    You can do this!

Episode 251: What You Need To Do Today To Create A Better Tomorrow Nov 30, 2021
    Show notes

    a better tomorrow

    Welcome back my dear listener.
If you are against planning and thinking ahead because you think it’s a diet-y thing to do, you are not alone. Today we are going to talk about how you can use today to have a better tomorrow, in how you eat, how you think and feel and how you take care of yourself.

    • Do you feel in control or out of control?
    • Do you know what you are going to eat or is it just whatever is around or what is offered to you?
    • Do you know how to anticipate your day?
    • What is coming up for you, and when and with who?
    • Or does it all seem to come at you all at once?
    • Do you feel like you cross your fingers and hope you have a good eating day?
    • Or do you know how to create a good eating day?
    • Do you think it’s all about luck?
    • Do you think that women who eat well with foods that are helpful and love them back are smarter than you?
    • Or luckier than you?
    • Or is it just a mystery of what is the difference between you and those special women?

Join me in this coaching session as we shine the light on the truth about what makes a good eating day vs. a challenging one.

It is not random, and, yes, you do have so say in how your day goes.
I’m going to show you what makes a day good, what makes a day challenging, and how it all affects how you eat.

When you think today about how you want tomorrow to go, you are not at the mercy of all the other people and events that are in your orbit, sitting with your fingers crossed hoping they will go well. You are in charge of you even when you don’t know the exact details of what is coming at you.

Episode 250: To Lose Weight: Tough Love or Compassion? Nov 23, 2021
    Show notes

    Tough Love or Compassion

What do you say to yourself when the going gets tough?
When you’re struggling to eat in a new way or to stop eating your emotions?
Do you talk to yourself like a tough drill sergeant?
Do you coddle yourself like a baby?

What is the right thing to do?

Join me in this short coaching session as we discuss the three most common ways we tend to talk to ourselves when we struggle…some are helpful and some are not.

The first most common method of trying to motivate ourselves to do better is when we take the role of our very own mean girl.

Yelling at yourself, putting yourself down, saying things that make you feel hopeless.
Is this you? If it is, stop it right now!

The second most used method of trying to encourage yourself is in the form of self-compassion. This one sounds good, doesn’t it? It will show up as thoughts like, aww, don’t worry! You did the best you could, so just move on.

We think this is the best solution, but I’m going to explain why compassion alone is not enough.

And finally, there is the option of tough love. This is different than being mean to yourself. It firmly encourages you to do better, but without the mean girl element.

Join me as we look at the mental talk, all inside your head, that has the ability to totally derail you OR motivate you to get the best results ever.

Episode 249: Why Don’t You Weigh More? Nov 16, 2021
    Show notes

    Why Don't You Weigh More?

What do you weigh right now? Is it your highest weight? Do you know how you got there? And why you don’t weigh even more?

Let’s talk about the control you actually DO have over the number on your scale. I think you’re going to be surprised!

In today’s coaching session we are going to talk about how much control you DO have over your weight.

Yes, I know you likely think your eating and your weight are out of control.
    Have you ever said that?

Well, let me ask you this question:
What do you weigh right now? I want a very simple answer, without judgement.
Just the facts please, just the number

Is this a weight you like or don’t like?

When you look at your weight as just a fact, this helps you look at your thoughts, we are going from the number, a fact, to what you think about it, right?
And for most of you, you are kind of judgmental about your number.

You might think that this number says something about you as a person.
If you like the number you see, you might be doing the happy dance around your bathroom scale, patting yourself on your back.
Go me! Look what I did!
I can do this after all!
I’m on my way to the number I want.

And if you don’t like your current number, you are probably thinking: I’m out of control! Help!

Today we will talk about how to see the control you already do have, no matter what the number on the scale says.

Episode 248: Stop Starting on Every Monday Nov 09, 2021
    Show notes

    Stop Starting on Monday

Do you always start your diet on a Monday? If so, you are not alone. This is a universal habit. The question is: does it work?
Join me for a mini coaching session today and I will help you look at this habit.

    Today we’re going to learn:

    • What is the habit of starting on a Monday about? What do I mean with the ‘Monday diet’ habit?
    • Why you love it? Sometimes we all are addicted to doing something even though we know it’s not helpful. Is this you
    • Why you do it? What might motivate you to get stuck in the cycle of starting over, time and time again? Even though you aren’t making progress.
    • Why you keep believing it even when you see it’s a never-ending cycle. You know it doesn’t work. And yet you get hopeful every single Sunday night, thinking about your fresh start coming up.
    • Why it does not work.
    • And how to stop starting over and over and over.

Let’s take this repetitive habit apart and learn how to really move forward and create a weight loss habit that works.

I want you to make progress, not just be busy and tired and frustrated.

Join me and let’s work on this together!

Episode 247: Just Tell Me What To Eat! Nov 02, 2021
    Show notes

    Tell Me What To Eat

The biggest question my clients have when they first come to me is this: what should I eat?
And that is their biggest desire. They want to lose weight, and they want me to tell them step by step exactly what to eat to get to their goal weight.

So in today’s episode, I want to revisit the subject of what to eat.

Here’s what we’ll cover in our coaching session today:

    • Why you look at food as good or bad and where that perspective came from.
    • Why that way of looking at food isn’t helping you and may actually be making weight loss harder.
    • What your parents and teacher may have trained you to think when it comes to what you eat.
    • How you judge yourself and why when you eat a ‘bad’ food.
    • When you see certain foods as forbidden, what happens when you do eat one of these foods?
    • And if you manage to stay away from forbidden foods, why do you feel so deprived?
    • How can you look at different types of food without the good vs. bad division?
    • What are helpful foods?
    • How can we incorporate less helpful but good tasting foods into our diet without losing control?
    • How can you judge how much ‘less helpful’ / treat food to allow yourself and still lose weight?

I want you to feel secure even when there is no exact prescription of what and how much to eat. I want you to always know what to eat and how much to eat because you know what works for you and your body. And this is what I teach my clients in the Freedom Group.

So even if your question is: “What should I eat?”, I promise that you will enjoy and learn from this enlightening coaching session.

Episode 246: Why You Should Plan For Eating Obstacles Oct 26, 2021
    Show notes

    Ostacles

Do you hope for the best each day?
Crossing your fingers, quietly saying a little prayer, and wishing that you will be able to eat according to your plan?

If you do this, you are surely not alone.
But that still doesn’t solve your problem.
That still doesn’t resolve you feeling out of control as life throws challenges at you.
    Daily.

Today, I’m going to make a case urging you to think ahead.
To see what is coming at you in the coming week, or at least the coming day.
And to think through how you want to respond.

    No time to do this?
    Hate planning?
Do you fear that thinking about these things will make you feel too structured?
    Restricted?
    Un-spontaneous?

    Guess what?
    Planning is empowering.
Letting life come toward you without a thought ahead of time, with no semblance of order at all…that is disempowering.

    What do you wish for?
When you want to make a change, you have a goal, right?
To get to that goal, you need to take steps.
You need to know that you will keep your word to yourself.
Do what you say you will do.
But if you operate with no plan at all, you will feel like you are out of control.
You will feel lost, frustrated, and angry. And be unable to take those steps.

How do I know? I know because this was me before I took charge of myself and looked ahead.
Join me and allow me to show you the value of thinking ahead, for what is probably predictable. And learning how to keep your promise to yourself.

What was it like for you to grow up?
How did you think about food?
    And your weight?

A lot of the ideas you have now, as an adult, come from your childhood. From your early caregivers.

And their ideas were passed on to you.

I’d like you to listen to this interview with Annie, an alumni of The Freedom Group.

Her mom, like many of ours, had her own struggles with food. And she passed them on to her children.

    Did this happen to you?

Episode 244: Your Automatic Thoughts About Your Weight Oct 12, 2021
    Show notes

    Your Automatic Thoughts

Sometimes it’s hard to get yourself to do what you want to do.
    I know.
    I’ve certainly been there.

Something that has helped me, and my Freedom Group members is looking at what goes on in your mind.
What are the thoughts you might be thinking that come up automatically?

Are these thoughts you think without being aware?
    Not exactly.
You are aware of them, but they are so well-practiced, it feels like they come up and you have no choice.

It feels in the moment like this is just the truth and it’s reality, and it leads you to your moods and what you do.

What if your automatic thoughts lead you to do things that aren’t helpful? Like overeat?
    Like eating by the clock.
Or never turning down food, even if you aren’t hungry?

That’s where your automatic thoughts might be leading you.

The good news is once you become aware of what your automatic thoughts are, and you can see what results they create for you, you will become aware of your choices.

And you can ditch those automatic thoughts for ones that serve you better.

Join me in this coaching session. Let’s see what your automatic thoughts are, and whether they are working for you or against you.

Episode 243: Before and After Oct 05, 2021
    Show notes

    Welcome back, my friend.
Do you love a good before and after?

    So do I!
I love it because it’s so motivating to see someone before with struggles I can relate to, and then the ‘after’ version of them, free from all the struggles.

    It gives us hope, right?
If they can change so can we.
And it’s so inspiring to see how different someone can be.

It’s one thing when we think we might be capable of change.
And it’s another thing to actually see someone be transformed, right before our eyes.

The problem comes when we think of our before and after only in terms of how much we weigh, or what size pants we wear.

There are so many parts that need to change and lead to your after.
So today I’m going to help you break down what would have to happen for you to go from now, today, your ‘before’ to your ‘after’.

It is doable. And we’re going to talk about how.
