Garret's story is one of perseverance, resilience, and transformation. After retiring from the military, Garret faced challenges familiar to many veterans—anxiety, depression, and a sense of displacement. Like so many, he turned to alcohol as a crutch, but it wasn't until he experienced suicidal ideation that he sought real change. This episode takes listeners on a journey through Garret's struggles, his path to recovery, and his current mission to help veterans and others find hope, healing, and purpose.

    Key Takeaways from Garret's Journey:
    • The Power of Self-Worth: Garret explains that his recovery wasn't rooted in traditional addiction treatments but in mentorship that helped him rediscover his self-worth and identity. He emphasizes that addiction and mental health struggles are often symptoms of deeper issues, and that true recovery begins by healing those inner wounds.

    • The Importance of Connection: Drawing from his military experience, Garret highlights how veterans often lose their sense of connection and purpose after service, leading to emotional struggles. He stresses that reestablishing a sense of belonging and community is crucial for mental health.

    • ValiantPath™️ and Positive Psychology: Garret's passion for helping others led him to develop ValiantPath™️, a recovery program specifically for veterans. Grounded in positive psychology and human flourishing, this program offers a holistic approach to recovery, focusing on emotional processing and personal strengths rather than merely treating symptoms.

A Journey of Healing and Hope

Garret's story is one of deep transformation. From serving as a Marine Corps pilot to becoming an advocate for mental health and recovery, Garret offers invaluable insights into the unique challenges veterans face after transitioning out of the military. He shares the pain of losing the structure, camaraderie, and purpose that come with service, and how these losses can contribute to addiction and mental health struggles. However, Garret's message is one of hope—through mentoring, personal development, and the support of loved ones, he was able to overcome these challenges and now dedicates his life to helping others do the same.

    160. How To Quickly Heal The Real Root Cause Of Fear and Anxiety with Daniel Packard Oct 15, 2024
    Show notes

In this episode of Warriors Unmasked, Chuck Thuss dives deep into a fascinating conversation with Daniel Packard, a UC Berkeley-trained mechanical engineer and the CEO of Permanent Anxiety Solutions. Daniel shares his personal journey from battling severe anxiety and complex PTSD to pioneering a breakthrough solution that helps people overcome anxiety for good.

With over eight years of research, involving 3,000 people across five continents, and more than a million dollars invested, Daniel and his team developed a system designed to address anxiety at its root cause. What makes Daniel's program truly innovative is the "no change, no charge" model—where clients only pay at the end of the program if they see measurable results. Daniel's success rate is nothing short of remarkable, boasting a 90% success rate with a six-week program that has transformed lives.

    Key Takeaways from Daniel's Story:
    • A New Approach to Anxiety: Daniel explains that anxiety, perfectionism, procrastination, and other symptoms stem from one root cause—fear. His system targets fear at its source and provides a permanent solution, rather than just tools to manage symptoms.

    • Mechanical and Systematic Approach: Drawing from his background in engineering, Daniel reveals how he applied his problem-solving skills to create a structured, step-by-step system that yields measurable results. His program isn't about quick fixes—it's about getting to the core of the problem and eliminating it.

    • The Power of Innovation: Daniel's story is an inspiring example of how innovation can disrupt even the most complex challenges. With his program, clients experience significant improvements in just six weeks, freeing themselves from lifelong anxiety, procrastination, and low confidence.

    The Breakthrough System

Daniel Packard's program isn't like anything you've seen before. The system doesn't just give tips or tools for managing anxiety; it systematically addresses the root cause—fear—so clients can experience permanent relief. With measurable results in as little as six weeks, his program has helped professional athletes, entrepreneurs, and everyday people live anxiety-free lives.

One of the most revolutionary aspects of Daniel's work is that he only charges clients at the end of the program if they achieve clear, measurable results. It's a bold and innovative model that speaks to the confidence Daniel has in his approach and the life-changing results it delivers.

Want to Experience It for Yourself?

If you're ready to take control of your anxiety or other limiting behaviors, Daniel is offering a free call where you can learn more about the program and even access a 90-minute training session. You'll see firsthand why his method is so effective and get a taste of the results that have transformed thousands of lives.

    159. Bullying, Trauma, and Healing: Ray Brune's Inspiring Story of Forgiveness Oct 08, 2024
    Show notes

In this heart-rending and deeply inspiring episode of Warriors Unmasked, Chuck Thuss sits down with Raymond J. Brune, an Emmy Award-winning producer and former Executive Producer of Good Morning America, World News Now, and E! News Live. While Ray's career achievements are nothing short of incredible, this episode dives deeper into his personal journey, revealing decades of trauma and bullying that shaped him into the resilient person he is today.

Ray's story starts with a childhood marred by relentless bullying, beginning in third grade and lasting through high school. Growing up in Catholic schools, Ray was tormented for having red hair, freckles, and his sexual orientation—things his peers picked up on before he did. But his trauma didn't end there. Ray faced severe emotional scars that haunted him for over 40 years, culminating in a CPTSD (Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) diagnosis.

Despite his successes in television, Ray found himself grappling with unresolved pain that nearly derailed his life. But an unexpected discovery of using artificial intelligence to reframe his trauma helped him find peace and healing. Through art therapy and his "right brain rain," Ray began transforming the narrative of his painful memories, moving from victim to victor. In this episode, Ray opens up about this journey, his emotional scars, and how he found a way to forgive—even those who hurt him the most.

    Key Takeaways from Ray's Journey:
    • Overcoming Trauma: Ray candidly discusses how bullying impacted his childhood and mental health, from daily harassment to intense isolation. His story sheds light on the lasting effects of childhood trauma and the importance of addressing it, no matter how long it takes.

    • The Power of Reframing: Ray shares how he stumbled upon using AI to create artwork that helped him reframe painful memories, turning the narrative around his trauma from shame to strength. This discovery was a turning point in his healing journey.

    • Forgiveness and Healing: Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of Ray's story is his ability to forgive those who caused him pain. By forgiving his bullies and even his father, Ray found peace and began to live a lighter, more fulfilled life.

    The Art of Being Bullied

Ray's book, The Art of Being Bullied, is a powerful exploration of his experiences and the process he went through to heal. It blends memoir, psychology, and practical advice on how anyone can reframe their own trauma. Whether through art or other methods, Ray's book offers a unique and inspiring roadmap to forgiveness and emotional freedom. You can find The Art of Being Bullied on Amazon and other platforms.

For those who are struggling with trauma, bullying, or just feeling lost, Ray's story is a beacon of hope. It's a reminder that, even after decades of pain, it's possible to heal, forgive, and emerge stronger than ever.

Listen to the full episode to hear Ray's courageous story and learn how you too can reframe trauma in your own life. Share this episode with someone who could benefit from Ray's inspiring journey, and remember—you're not alone on this path.

    156. Leadership Lessons from the NFL: How Bret Davis Turns Failure into Confidence Sep 17, 2024
    Show notes

In this episode of Warriors Unmasked, Chuck Thuss sits down with Bret Davis, a leader who has seen it all—from the world of professional sports to rising through the ranks in the medical field. Bret shares how growing up as the son of an NFL coach shaped his unique perspective on leadership, motivation, and handling pressure. From observing legendary figures like Don Shula and Bill Cowher, to developing his own leadership style, Bret's experiences culminated in his Amazon #1 best-selling self-help book, Bretisms.

Throughout the episode, Bret and Chuck explore how leadership is not just about victories, but about dealing with adversity and how vulnerability can actually be a sign of strength. Bret shares his "Bretisms"—insights drawn from a lifetime of experience in high-stress environments, designed to help people reduce anxiety and build confidence in everyday life.

    Key Takeaways from Bret's Journey:
    • Growing up in an NFL family taught Bret invaluable lessons about leadership, adaptability, and handling pressure. Moving every couple of years for his dad's career exposed him to different cultures, teaching him how to fit in and stand out as a leader.
    • One of Bret's key leadership principles is "Take the blame, shed the credit". Great leaders, he notes, are quick to give credit to others while taking responsibility for failures.
    • Bret also emphasizes the importance of vulnerability in leadership. In high-pressure environments, it's crucial to open up and lean on your support system rather than trying to be "bulletproof."
    Bretisms and Their Impact

Bret's book, Bretisms, outlines 30 life principles that can help reduce anxiety and build confidence. One of his most impactful sayings is, "You can't trip over what's behind you"—a reminder to let go of past failures and focus on moving forward. Through real-life examples from his childhood in the NFL, Bret demonstrates how letting go of perfectionism and embracing failure can lead to personal and professional growth.

    What's Coming Next?

Chuck reflects on how Bret's perspective on failure has inspired him to rethink his own approach to perfectionism. He challenges listeners to adopt the mindset that failure is okay, as long as you're learning and growing from it. Bret's stories of watching NFL players handle adversity off the field provide listeners with a behind-the-scenes look at the mental toughness it takes to succeed in high-pressure environments—whether in sports, business, or everyday life.

Connect with Bret and Get the Book

If you're ready to dive deeper into Bret's lessons on leadership and life, check out his book, Bretisms, available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. You can also visit his website Bretisms.com to learn more and find additional resources to help you build confidence and reduce anxiety.

Listen to the full episode for more insights from Bret Davis, and remember to share this episode with someone who could benefit from the wisdom of a leader who has seen it all. If you're ready to embrace failure, boost your confidence, and reduce anxiety, this episode is for you!

    155. Chuck Thuss Returns: What to Expect from Warriors Unmasked in 2024 Sep 10, 2024
    Show notes

Hey Warriors Unmasked family, Chuck Thuss here, and I'm excited to welcome you back to a brand new season of Warriors Unmasked! In this special episode, we're taking things in a fresh direction, while staying true to the heart of what makes our show great: sharing powerful stories of courage, perseverance, and mental health.

It's been an amazing and busy summer for me, filled with travel, coaching, and speaking engagements. I've had the privilege of connecting with so many of you, and I want to thank you for the gift of your time. Your support and the meaningful conversations we've shared have been nothing short of incredible.

But now, it's time for a relaunch – and I'm thrilled to share what's coming up for Warriors Unmasked!

    What's New this Season?

Warriors Unmasked is evolving. We're giving our website and social media a fresh new look, but the soul of the show – those raw, real, and inspiring stories – remains. You can expect more solo episodes from me, where I'll dive into various topics around mental health, self-care, and personal growth. I'm going to let you in on more of my own journey, the challenges I face, and how I continue to grow, so that together, we can tackle life's hurdles.

We've also enhanced the resource page on our website to provide you with even more tools to help you along your journey. Whether you're navigating stress, mental health challenges, or just want to level up your self-care, we've got your back!

    Reflecting on Life and Loss

This episode is a deeply personal one for me. I share updates on my family, including my daughters Bethany and Brooke, who are doing incredible things. But I also open up about the ongoing grief I feel after the loss of my mom in 2022. There are days when the pain still hits hard, and I know many of you understand what that feels like.

A special moment happened recently that I believe was a sign from my mom – a cardinal appeared on my windowsill, reminding me that she's always with me, even if she's no longer here physically. It was a beautiful reminder that while grief never truly goes away, love stays with us.

    The Power of Self-Care

As always, I'm a huge advocate for self-care, and this episode is packed with tips to help you manage stress and prioritize your mental health. From daily gratitude to meditation and exercise, I share the practices that have been life-changing for me. Trust me, when you make yourself the number one priority in your life, everything changes.

Are you making yourself a priority? If not, today's a great day to start!

    Exciting Changes for the Podcast

I'm also incredibly excited to share that we've got some amazing guests lined up for this season. Expect more stories of courage, perseverance, and triumph over mental health challenges. From athletes like Trevor Gillies, who has found unique ways to manage his mental health, to innovators like Daniel Picard, who has developed groundbreaking solutions for anxiety – there's so much to look forward to.

One big update: My incredible partner Clint Malarchuk has moved on to focus on his work with Ranch Teammates for Life, where he continues to do incredible things for mental health. Clint will always be a part of Warriors Unmasked, and I'm proud to call him one of our ambassadors.

    Join the Journey

If there's one thing I want you to take away from this episode, it's that we're all in this together. Whether you're dealing with grief, stress, or just need some inspiration to keep moving forward, this community is here for you.
