    WINNING TOGETHER | Warrior Week | EP 054 Apr 06, 2019
    Show notes

Coach Kevin Voisin and his wife, Whitney, are Coach Sam's special guests in this week's episode where they talk about their recent adventure of swimming the Alcatraz event and share the lessons they learned.

    Parable #1: Childhood Sweethearts
    • Kevin describes his wife as the ultimate diamond in the rough. They met on a church trip when they were twelve, and her hand was the first hand he ever held. But they lost contact after Whitney moved away.
    • Twenty-five years and two marriages later, Whitney happened to see Kevin's face on a billboard while she driving through town one day. She reached out to him via Facebook, and the rest is history.
    QUESTION

How did you and your spouse meet?

    Parable #2: Witnessing Growth
    • In the past three years, Whitney has witnessed the growth and rise of her husband, Kevin. "Inside of being an amazing father, and wanting to please me, he had lost Kevin. I feel like Wake Up Warrior has been the process of discovering who he is."
    • During this same time, Whitney saw herself as happy and content, not feeling like anything needed to change until she began witnessing Kevin training and leading men. She then began feeling like she was remaining stagnant while he continued to grow.
    QUESTION

What growth have you witnessed in your spouse? In yourself?

    Parable #3: Overcoming Fears
    • Whitney's decision to enter the Alcatraz event stemmed from a fire that has been lit inside of her where she is "tired of living inside this little box I've created for myself."
    • "I jumped off the boat into the water because this was something I was doing for myself, not for anybody else." Up until this point, Whitney was convinced she was meant to decorate the outskirts of the water, not jump in it.
    QUESTION

What huge leap have you taken recently?

Parable #4: Life Lessons From Alcatraz
    • One of the take-a-ways for Whitney from her experience was that she wants to do the things in life that make her strong, surrounded by others who are also going to make her strong. "There was comfort and safety swimming in a pack."
    • Whitney observed a lesson she felt Kevin had learned by not completing the race because he began assisting others who were having troubles in the water. "The fact is, he straps others to his back all the time, which prevents him from completing something he wants to do."
    QUESTION

What are some of the lessons you have learned about yourself as you have competed in events?

    Parable #5: Creating Wins
    • After coaching both men and women over the course of the past three years, Sam and Kevin have witnessed a huge disconnection between husbands and wives.
    • Coach Sam: There may not be any drama or trauma inside a marriage, but there's a huge gap between the husband and the wife. What you two have co-created by doing this event together is the Voisin standard of connection and winning."
    QUESTION

What are you committed to creating together with your partner or spouse?

    Parables from the Pit:

"In a world today that is so connected using technology, we are actually in the worst era of disconnection, specifically between husbands and wives."

    —Sam Falsafi

"I am not alone is a powerful feeling, and when it leaves, it underlines just how important it is in your life."

    –Kevin Voisin

"I am the only one who gets in my way."

    –Whitney Voisin

The PAIN of FAME | Warrior Week | EP 053 Mar 17, 2019
    Show notes

Coach Sam welcomes special guest, Ravi, to the show today. One of the main entertainers inside the game of Warrior and the Warrior's Way, Ravi is all about energy. He joined the Brotherhood in August of 2018 during a time when his life was a mess. "Everything was fucked up. My wife hated me, I hated her, and literally, everything was a disaster." Warrior turned that all around for him.

    Parable #1: WC3
    • During the three day WCON3 in December 2018, Ravi was an integral part of creating and driving the energy of that experience with over 1200 men. "It was fucking spectacular and unbelievably inspiring!"
    • "Ravi has an extensive background in performing on world stages with all of the big names in the entertainment industry. Yet WC3 was an experience that stands out because "it meant so much to me. The energy was so intense, and everyone was on fucking fire to win!"
    QUESTION

What was your experience at WC3?

    Parable #2: The American Dream
    • Ravi's father sailed from India to America in the early 1960s with $8 in his pocket and a desire to live the American dream. Within three years, Ravi's father was able to become established and sent for his wife to join him in America and began raising a family.
    • At a very young age, Ravi was obsessed with the drums and used anything he could find to beat on, resulting in a lot of breakage around the house. At age 10, at his father's insistence, Ravi began working odd jobs to earn money for a drum set.
    QUESTION

What is a passion had as a child that has carried on throughout your life?

    Parable #3: Trifecta of Insanity
    • One could say Ravi is living the American dream. He met his wife at the Playboy Mansion and got married on the beautiful beaches of Malibu, he's the father of two children, and a musician in the entertainment industry. "My life is a Trifecta of Insanity."
    • Coach Sam: One of the biggest fucking poisons inside the industry are the lies and cover-ups. Being a celebrity today has so many waterfall effects where everything you say – even your intentions – can get edited.
    QUESTION

Inside your world, where are you noticing the lies and cover-ups?

    LEONIDAS | Warrior Week | EP 052 Mar 10, 2019
    Show notes

    Parable #1: Kettlebell Mania

    • After breaking the record in kettlebell swings – over 368,000 lbs and over 80,000 swings in 24 HOURS – Alex underwent five back surgeries. He's the guy who is willing to take things all the way to the edge in order to succeed in life.
    • "Your mind really starts to play tricks on you, and in my mind, I went to that place where I'd rather die than fail. It inspired me to know that I can take things to a certain level, but now I channel that energy in the right direction going forward."
    QUESTION

How far to the edge are you willing to take things in order to succeed?

    Parable #2: The Death Race
    • In his early to mid-30s, Alex traveled the country competing in Spartan races, and at the height of his popularity, he was invited to compete in the most elite Spartan Races of them all, the Death Race in Mexico.
    • "We found ourselves staring down a bull in an arena in the middle of nowhere, our hands zip-tied in front of us, with instructions to find our bib number on the other side of the stadium, grab our bibs, and get the hell out of there – without getting attacked or killed by the bull."
    QUESTION

Where in your world have you taken huge risks? What have the results been?

Parable #3: Please Let Me Go
    • After Alex's mother went in for minor colon surgery, complications arose which ultimately turned into sepsis. In the midst of losing organ and brain function, and while on a respirator and heart pump, she wrote four heart-breaking words on a pad of paper for Alex: please let me go.
    • To this day, there's a part of Alex that thinks that maybe she could have survived and pulled through if he hadn't turned off life support, which is what he took into the Pit during Warrior Week.
    QUESTION

What are some especially difficult moments you have experienced in your life? How did your life change because of them?

    Parable #4: Significance
    • A lot of what Alex has done in his life has been linked to significance, which can be looked at as very important on the one hand, or very shallow on the other.
    • "In a lot of my cases," shares Alex, "it was shallow. I was always looking for more acceptance and more significance, but I still felt hollow; I still felt like shit inside. It was at Warrior Week where I was exposed and my perspective began shifting."
    QUESTION

Where in your world has significance played a big part of your life purpose and experience?

    Parable #5: What Matters Most
    • Alex used to live his life wanting to be in the spotlight; wanting and hoping to get recognized for his athletic excellence. His hope was that he would be "discovered" on television and make a lot of money in the process.
    • Today, his priorities have shifted. Alex finds joy and purpose in connecting with those whom he loves and cares about. When he's having a bad day, his thoughts go to hugging and loving his son rather than to the memories of a competition he won in the past.
    QUESTION

How have your priorities shifted through the years? What caused that shift to take place?

    Parables from the Pit:

"It may not inspire someone to want to do kettlebells themselves, but it's inspiring in the fact that it's respecting the commitment and courage it took to take upon yourself this challenge. What becomes inspiring is the fact that you never quit."

    –Coach Sam Falsafi

"When you're doing everything with an actual fucking purpose, things start to align. You start to feel filled up inside and bring a completely different energy to the Universe."

    –Alex Nicholas

    Live Now | Warrior Week | Ep 051 Dec 27, 2018
    Show notes

*This is an encore presentation of a previously published episode.* The Kosher Warrior, Dr. Adam Splaver, joins Coach Sam in this week's episode to talk about the most incomprehensible experience a man will ever have to go through. The message of Warrior was completely against most of his cultural and spiritual beliefs, but Dr. Splaver's leadership within the Orthodox Jewish community and as a cardiologist in the medical community was in actuality a merging of multiple beliefs to help him deal with the pain of his wife's illness.

    Parable #1: What's Your Story?
    • Dr. Adam Splaver's journey into Warrior began when his interest was piqued by the ads showing up in his Facebook feed. The experience of Warrior spoke to him, yet as a leader inside the Orthodox Jewish community and a highly respected Cardiologist in the medical community, he was nervous as to how these two traditional worlds might collide with the message of Warrior.
    • The biggest issues he had were the stories he was telling himself. He wondered, "What the fuck am I doing as a religious cardiologist going into a program very foreign to my community and background where I'll be stepping into a boxing ring, climbing up a mountain and swimming in the ocean?" Unbeknownst to him at the time, Adam would eventually discover for himself that Warrior Week was not a physical event but rather a powerful and painful spiritual journey.
    QUESTION

Where in your life are the stories you are telling yourself preventing you from acting on a decision you feel deeply inspired to take action on?

Parable #2: Tap Into Your Natural Gifts
    • In 2012, while at the top of his game personally and professionally, tragedy struck out of nowhere for Adam's family when his wife, believed to be in top physical form, collapsed and was unresponsive. With one look at her x-rays, he realized there was a hell of a lot of blood where it didn't belong, sending him to the ground in a heap of emotions and uncontrollable screaming.
    • Within six months of being told to prepare to lose Shaani, the love of his life, she began improving and Adam believed the worst was behind them as he prepared to enter Warrior Week 28. While there, he realized he has been playing too small in his life and afterward began tapping into his natural gifts of teaching and speaking, appearing on television, inside periodicals, and makes appearances in various public venues.
    QUESTION

Where in your life are you playing small?

Parable #3: Truth Is No Respecter of Persons
    • Coach Sam: So you come to Warrior Week finding something that is actually giving you joy and is feeding your Certainty and Purpose. Life has been numb and it almost took a tragedy for you to wake the fuck up. All your life you have been living by the book and following the rules, yet you weren't finding happiness and joy in doing that. As you started living your truth, you began colliding with an army of opinion within your professional and spiritual community.
    • Adam: While at Warrior, I came to realize that the message of "stop lying and start telling the fucking truth" was the only way worth living. I had an incident with a Rabbi in my community while I was president of the synagogue, realizing that the rabbinic staff was not living up to their role as a spiritual guide and leader. I confronted them about it, and needless to say, it was not well received. What I learned from this experience is that I have the key, the access, and the ability to make my own connection with God and that I don't have to go through anyone else for that.
    QUESTION

What adds to your joy, certainty and purpose? How do you experience and express that in your life?

Parable #4: All We Have Is Now
    • Adam: The brain tumor returned with a vengeance in 2016, robbing Shaani of her short-term memory. When we were originally presented with this entire situation, I was absolutely paralyzed thinking what the fuck am I going to do… until I surrendered. I surrendered to the idea that the only thing that I could control was now, so let's make this the most incredible now that we can.
    • Coach Sam: Every piece of wisdom that you read says don't live in the fucking past, live in the present, and the future doesn't exist; the truth is not in the past, the truth is in the now. Your wife didn't remember the past, she had no power to live in the future, so she was forced to live in the now; and inside of this, you found beauty, love, intimacy, sexuality, and power.
    QUESTION

Inside of tragedy, what does it look like to surrender to the gifts?

    Parable #5: It's A Matter Of Heart
    • Coach Sam: Every single piece of emotion you have felt has been a gift from Shaani to you; gifts that you can use in your teaching as you heal men with the expression of their feelings. It's coming from a place of experience, and it's always been a part of who you are.
    • Adam: At the end of the day, my understanding is that our souls are here for expansion: to get better, to get stronger, to get bigger than where we were before. And if that's the case, then for some reason that I will never understand, God determined that our souls needed to undergo prolonged, prolific loss in order to perfect ourselves. I think this journey that my wife took me on has been an eye-opener, a heart opener; something I'm forever grateful for. And for that, I consider myself lucky, probably the luckiest man alive.
    QUESTION

How many emotions do you allow yourself to feel and express?

    Parable from the Pit:

"Shaani left this world for an unknown reason. You learned to surrender to what is. She left you many gifts, and each of those gifts come into play in your leadership. You would have never been the man sitting here today carrying so much power and respect if she had not been building your life with you. What the fuck are you going to do with the tremendous amount of gifts Shaani left for you?"

    –Coach Sam Falsafi

"What happens when shit goes sideways? Are we prepared to deal with it? The bottom line is this: having the structure of the Warrior's Way empowered me to continue on and just keep moving forward in order to tackle – to embrace – this huge problem in my life. If we can fortify ourselves to become stronger, then all of this other stuff becomes easier to tackle. Despite your darkest hour, despite the pain that you have, you are not alone. If you can lean on your Brothers and the people around you that really have your best interest at heart, then you can get through anything."

    –Dr. Adam Splaver

    Own Your Truth | Warrior Week | Ep 050 Dec 20, 2018
    Show notes

(This is an encore presentation of a previously published episode.)Your host Sam Falsafi has Warrior Guest Kelly Curtis on the call to face the barriers of race, culture, and religion and how becoming your own man based off of your own definition instead of society's helps shape you into what you want to be in life.

Parable #1: Follow the Lead of the Universe
    • Kelly's journey to Warrior Week began in 2007 while attending a convention where Tony Robbins, Les Brown and a charismatic guy named Garrett White were speaking. Years later while surfing the internet, Kelly was surprised to find himself viewing a documentary featuring the guy who, years earlier, had made an unforgettable impression upon him.
    • There comes a time in your life when a conversation takes place that is out of your hands, where the Universe is delivering a message to you that will either move you to take immediate action or lead you down the path in the direction that is meant for you to take.
    QUESTION

Are you opening your eyes to the messages the Universe is sending you? What are some of the messages you are currently receiving?

    Parable #2: Own Your Truth
    • While on a spiritual journey questioning everything he has ever believed, Kelly began owning the answers instead of relying on someone else's idea of what he should believe. He was brought to a place of peace, yet felt like he was missing the Map of what to do next. Warrior Week provided the tactical piece of the puzzle that was missing, giving him permission to become the Seeker.
    • In sharing the story surrounding the origin of the Muslim law established 1700 years ago forbidding the consumption of alcohol, Sam asks you to consider: What laws and beliefs will you follow today that will serve you as a man, husband and human being in getting what you want and putting you in a position of serving others?
    QUESTION

Where has questioning your core beliefs led you? What beliefs and practices do you still hold onto that are no longer serving you?

Parable #3: There Is No Finish Line
    • In a grinding 12 hour day in the war zone during one of the most difficult and challenging experiences of his life, Kelly is able to stay in the grueling game by retaining a piercing and determined focus on the vision of his sons watching him, envisioning demonstrating to them what it looks like to do your best, give your all, and go all in.
    • In the midst of a six-month audit, Kelly owned that he had nothing to hide. What separates him from his contemporaries in the finance world is the fact that he lives by a Code that says: Don't Lie, Tell the Fucking Truth, and I will not ask you to do anything that I haven't done myself.
    QUESTION

Where in your life are you asking people to do things that you have not done yourself?

Parable #4: Religion, Race & Culture: The Big Dividers Of Humanity
    • Judgment is the barrier that you put between you and another human being. As humans, we create labels which create the separation. Our backgrounds, race or culture should not create any fucking barriers to what we want or what we are ruthlessly committed to going after.
    • By lying, we separate ourselves into these labels and circles. You can have an association that has the same religion, culture, and race, but inside of that, there is a major amount of separation taking place. On the outside the labels are perfect; on the inside, the love is not connected and the love is not real.
    QUESTION

What are some of the ways you label, judge and categorize others? Does that make you feel more connected or more divided?

Parable #5: Freedom Has a Price
    • In his travels outside of America, Sam observed behaviors and patterns that were symbols of restriction and poverty, wherein one city families were claiming poles in the street as their home. He came back home appreciative of the freedoms that most take for granted in America. At the end of the day, freedom is a fundamental need for humans.
    • We are acting alone as men, feeling like there is nowhere we can drop the guilt, pain, and shame, where we are conditioned to mask our totality. The secret to not fucking living with guilt and shame is to give yourself permission to be free to own the light and the darkness within you. That is what we do inside the experience of Warrior.
    QUESTION

What price are you willing to pay to experience freedom within yourself and in all areas of your life?

    Parables from the Pit:

"The reality is this: You are either my brother in my faith, race, or culture or my equal in humanity. Black, white – no matter what you want to call yourself – you are more than welcome to come inside this place and discover the permission to stop fucking lying and start fucking telling the truth."

    – Sam Falsafi

"Brothers, I'm looking forward to seeing more of us – guys who look like me. A lot of times we just need to see it. Maybe I'm the guy who sparks the thought inside of you: 'Hey, he looks like me and he's doing this, maybe it's okay for me to try this out.' The message, doctrine and principles are universal and there are a lot of men out there that can use this across the board – any race or color. We all have the same problems and issues no matter who we are or where we are in the world."

    – Kelly Curtis

    I AM | Warrior Week | Ep 049 Dec 14, 2018
    Show notes

Master Stephen Co is Coach Sam's special guest in this week's edition of Warrior Week: Parables from the Pit. Master Co is an expert in Pranic Healing and Arhatic Yoga and is the co-author of the books, "The Power of Prana" and "Your Hands Can Heal You." Since 1988, he has been traveling the world teaching and sharing energetic techniques based on ancient spiritual principles that can be applied immediately to transform one's life.

    Parable #1: An Inspired Encounter
    • Master Co has been traveling the world with Tony Robbins for the past two years sharing the Eastern traditions with the Western minds, something he finds most gratifying.
    • Nearly a year ago, during Warrior Week 43, Coach Sam began writing "I AM THAT I AM" on a whiteboard, setting into motion a series of events orchestrated by the Universe, leading him down a divine path to an inspired encounter with Master Stephen Co.
    QUESTION

Where in your world have you seen the hand of God or the Universe orchestrating events in your life?

    Parable #2: Learn, Live, Teach
    • Coach Sam: There comes a time when a man needs to identify a spiritual mentor because the idea of "I'm going to do it alone" is limited. What I have been learning from Master Co, I have been giving away to those whom I teach.
    • Master Stephen Co: The more you know, the more you realize how little you know. As a man, a lot of times our ego tells us, "I know everything." Humility, on the other hand, gives a person the self-confidence to say, "I want to be better; therefore, I will seek someone who has accomplished more."
    QUESTION

    Who is your spiritual mentor?

    Parable #3: Stepping Stones
    • Thirty years ago, Master Co's wife fell fourteen feet onto solid concrete and broke her hip. The doctors told them it would take 3 1/2 months for her to heal and to be able to walk again. Master Co searched for alternative solutions, which eventually led him to his mentor.
    • He put into practice what he learned from his mentor – which is what he teaches today – and in two weeks, his wife was walking; in five weeks, she was running.
    QUESTION

How has finding alternative solutions changed the course of your life?

    Parable #4: I AM
    • I AM is the mover of the body, the creator of feelings, and the thinker of thoughts. If you don't know who this I AM is, you become a slave to your body, to your emotions, and to your thoughts. By knowing who the "I AM" is, you regain your power and the inner strength to deal with life.
    • To be emotionally stable, mentally clear, and to have inner peace is the desire of most human beings. If someone is not experiencing this in their life, they are in need of healing.
    QUESTION

How do you live when you feel power and strength?

Parable #5: The Energy of Happiness
    • Happiness is a feeling, a state; it's a certain frequency of energy. When you're with a person who radiates happiness, you begin feeling uplifted. And if you can keep generating that energy, you can permeate yourself and infect other people with that energy.
    • When you're happier, it's easier to be compassionate. When you're not happy, it's going to be harder, but you can choose to be compassionate. In the end, it's always a choice.
    QUESTION

What is your experience being around happy vs angry people? How do you feel?

    Parables from the Pit:

"You never arrive at I AM. You find yourself in its presence, but there's no arrival."

    –Sam Falsafi

"Being a true man is being able to master yourself."

    –Master Stephen Co

    I Did Not QUIT, Daddy | Warrior Week | Ep 048 Dec 06, 2018
    Show notes

It's father and son time in this week's special edition of the Warrior Week podcast where Coach Sam and his nine-year-old son, Nickon, engage in a conversation about life and the life lessons they have been learning together.

    ___________________________________________________________________________________

    Parable #1: The Hike
    • When Nickon was six years old, he and his father went on a four-mile hike in the mountains, an outing that proved to be quite rigorous for Nickon. His six-year-old feet were tired, he was crying, and he didn't want to go on. But he did go on and was SO happy he hadn't given up.
    • At the tender age of six, Nickon learned an important lesson that day that no matter what, you never quit – even if you're tired, even if it seems too hard, even if you're hurting – you just keep going.
    QUESTION

Where in your world have you wanted to quit but persevered instead? What was the outcome of that decision?

    Parable #2: Learning Through Experience
    • In order to experience the lessons of life, one has to actually jump in and play the game. You can't gain experience reading about something or sitting on the sidelines; you have to actually live that experience.
    • Coach Sam: We understand these lessons if we experience them; if we don't experience them for ourselves, we cannot learn the lessons."
    QUESTION

What is something you want to experience but have not taken the steps to make it happen?

Parable #3: Stay in the Game
    • Nickon loves the video game, Fortnite; Coach Sam loves Call of Duty. Nickon is certain that if his dad were to play Fortnite more often, he would not only get better, he would learn to like it more than Call of Duty.
    • Life lesson: In the beginning, if something sucks but you keep yourself in the game, you will become better, and chances are you will like it more.
    QUESTION

What is your experience where staying the course has improved your skill set?

Parable #4: You Become Who You're Around
    • Coach Sam and Nickon had a conversation about spending time with kids who don't want to do anything, who sit around complaining and making excuses.
    • Life Lesson: If you hang around someone who doesn't want to do anything, the chances that you will also end up doing absolutely nothing are very high.
    QUESTION

Who are you currently spending time with where you are doing absolutely nothing? When are you going to change that?

    Parable #5: Invictus
    • At the graduation of each Warrior Week, Nickon dons a suit and tie and recites from memory the famous poem by William Ernest Henley, Invictus.
    • "It matters not how strait the gate, how charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul."
    QUESTION

Where in your world are you not acting as the captain of your soul?

    Parables from the Pit:

"Sometimes I take the lessons I learn from you (Nickon) and actually teach them to the men at Warrior."

    –Sam Falsafi

"What other people think about me is not important; what is important is what I think about myself. This is a lesson you taught me that I use at school a lot."

    –Nickon Falsafi

Parable #1: Picking Up the Pieces
    • The #1 thing our wives are concerned about is saying something that will cause us to go into a spiral, leaving them to pick up the pieces.
    • Most of the time when women lie to us, they are literally trying to protect us from our own breakdowns. Women are more concerned about preserving our feelings than in telling us the truth.
    QUESTION

What is your experience with this?

    Parable #2: Mum's the Word
    • A lack of feedback will only increase the insecurity of men. If your wife never praises you on your sexual performance and sexuality, that silence is as bad as criticizing.
    • Coach Kevin loves giving massages, but his wife doesn't get them very often because she stays silent. He likes feedback in knowing that she's enjoying it. She loves it, but she's silent about how much she loves it.
    QUESTION

What can you do to open up a conversation about the role of feedback inside your relationship?

Parable #3: It's This, Not That
    • Men get bitched at by their wives, but it's not about the things they REALLY want to talk about. It might be the thing they're losing their shit about, but there's actually something underneath that has been building for a period of time.
    • Ninety-eight percent of the time it has to do with communication, and the ultimate form of communication is sex. It also has to do with "I want to be seen, I want to be heard." But they never really teach you how, so you have to guess, and if you guess wrong then they think you don't love them.
    QUESTION

What would be possible for your relationship if you actually had a conversation about what your wife is upset about rather than making assumptions?

    Parable #4: Sex Pyramid
    • Sex is at the top of the pyramid but you won't get that full, complete experience of the without the deep communication and connection.
    • Men penetrate and go out; women accepts and takes in. In order to take you in, there's got to be massive trust.
    QUESTION

What do you do to increase the trust your wife has for you?

    Parable #5: Fantasy vs Reality
    • Because porn is a fantasy acted out by real people, it's very difficult, even with the adult mind, to remember that this IS fantasy. These are paid actors, paid to produce a result.
    • As parents, it's your responsibility to begin talking to your children about the biology of sex as well as about the psychology of sex. It is absolutely crucial that you start painting the picture of the Sex Pyramid beginning at a very young age and make them aware.
    QUESTION

How has porn played a part in how you view sex?

    Parables from the Pit:

"Part of the training at Warrior is to get you comfortable in having the uncomfortable conversations across all areas of your life."

    —Sam Falsafi

"She feels it's her job is to protect you, and the easiest way to protect you is to pretend that everything is great, even though it's not."

    –Kevin Voisin

    THE SHIFT | Warrior Week | Ep 046 Nov 22, 2018
    Show notes

It's back to the basics and fundamentals in this week's podcast with Coach Sam and Coach Jesse taking on the topic of Habits and Patterns, and the idea that any habit, good or bad, is breakable.

    ___________________________________________________________________________________

Parable #1: The Sixty Second Rule
    • We all have patterns and behaviors that either work for us or work against us. When you walk into a room or a building, or even when you wake up, you have about sixty seconds to decide what you're going to do next, otherwise, your brain is programmed to go back to the lowest level of training or highest level of addiction.
    • Jesse notices that sometimes after entering the building he'll start looking at his phone and make some coffee, and before he knows it, 30-40 minutes have gone by and he still hasn't worked out.
    QUESTION

What are some of your default habits that tend to suck away your time?

    Parable #2: Cues
    • We constantly have things in front of us that distract us from the shit we know we actually need to do or want to do. Distraction takes more time than anything out of our day.
    • An example of a cue or habit for when you get distracted would be something like working out or meditation, giving you more space and helping you to be more present throughout your day.
    QUESTION

What distracts you from the things you want to do?

    Parable #3: Modern Men Distractions
    • We are used to being stimulated all of the time, smoking vapes and being on phones being two of the most popular activities.
    • As modern men, we tend to justify our distractions; our brains are actually programmed to defend these distractions.
    QUESTION

How are distractions affecting your relationships?

    Parable #4: Be Here, Now
    • One of the major consequences of distraction is the lack of being present at home. It doesn't mean you don't love your wife and children; it means you're not present in the experience of the moment.
    • Being present is tasting and nourishing the experience of what's happening right now, right here. You are not connected emotionally or mentally to any other aspects of your life other than what is going on right now.
    QUESTION

What can you begin doing today to be more present with your wife and children?

Parable #5: The Shift Move and Meditation
    • The purpose of the Shift Move is to move you out of your present state into another state. It's not about the exercises involved in the move, it's about moving you into another state.
    • Meditation: Pull over and meditate for five minutes before entering your home. Visualize how you're going to show up and what it is you want to experience upon entering your home.
    QUESTION

What have been your results with meditation and visualization?

    Parables from the Pit:

"Too often there are moments in our lives that pass us by without us tasting and nourishing them."

    —Sam Falsafi

"You have 60 seconds to execute and take action, otherwise, you will revert to your lowest level of training or your highest form of addiction."

    —Jesse Ewell

    DRAMA is a LUXURY | Warrior Week | Ep 045 Nov 15, 2018
    Show notes

This week's podcast is a candid and eye-opening conversation around the topic of Trauma and Drama. Coach Sam and Coach Kevin uncover some important truths as they delve deep into this topic and share how a Warrior tool, Release the Rage, gives men and women the possibility to shift the drama, connect with the heart, and create a new perspective and path.

    ___________________________________________________________________________________

Parable #1: Drama Fuels the Ego
    • Drama gives our ego fuel to justify and to create significance. So if this big thing is happening to me and to nobody else, then I must be very important.
    • There's a piece of us that wants to maintain the drama to continue to tell the story that we're important, hanging onto that drama in order to hang onto our significance. But we also hang onto the negativity and bullshit around that same drama.
    QUESTION

Where in your world is drama giving you a sense of importance and significance?

    Parable #2: Drama Serves You
    • There's no question we have drama because it serves us. Most of the things that have fucked us up we learned to do because it gave us something in return.
    • As babies, we cried and our mothers fed us. The problem is, we are no longer infants, yet we still have this instinct that maybe if I cry, someone will put a "tit" in my mouth; someone will give me attention.
    QUESTION

How is drama in your life serving you? What is your payoff?

    Parable #3: Drama and Disasters
    • We have a tendency to get caught up in the drama of the disasters across the globe. It's a way for us to stop thinking about our own lives, and instead, become completely distracted by the unfolding disasters.
    • As we get sucked into the drama, we tend to forget about those around us who really need our time and attention. If we're not careful, the drama will pull us away from what really matters most to us.
    QUESTION

How do you respond to unfolding disasters? Do you get completely sucked in and distracted?

    Parable #4: The Hollywood Effect
    • We think that everything that happens to us is supposed to be this epic moment like we see in movies and on television. We learn from them how we're "supposed" to act and feel.
    • But these are manufactured to produce a certain response in us, almost like an audio-visual drug. It uses drama to tap into our emotions, which allows them to control us.
    QUESTION

How has Hollywood affected your emotions and responses?

Parable #5: The Pit of Comfort
    • Trauma happens, and then I take that trauma and build drama around it. "This happened to me, so, therefore, I'm going to isolate and stay in my fucking Pit alone in the darkness, because everywhere else I will be betrayed." So into the Pit, I go.
    • We create a dramatic story justifying why we should stay in the Pit, even though deep down inside, we want to be out of the Pit. We get comfortable inside of the Pit because the drama is easier to deal with than the trauma.
    QUESTION

What drama have you created in your life because you don't want to face the trauma?

    Parables from the Pit:

"Sometimes we deliberately create drama through our words, actions, and feelings in order to draw attention, importance, and significance to ourselves."

    —Sam Falsafi

"Drama stunts growth. You cannot grow and experience drama at the same time."

    —Kevin Voisin
