As I mentioned in an earlier episode last year, my customized Warrior Surfboard's tip broke about a month ago and after getting it repaired, I now have it back. It works as great as ever, and it wasn't until I was putting the board away for the day that I learned a significant lesson about myself. There's constantly something for me to learn,so after looking at the crack between the crown and the word KING on the Warrior Crest of my board, it represented for me the scars that I've experienced as a king that fell yet was able to rise again. The lesson that I learned was that in order to heal, you first have to be broken. The only way we can gain expansion in our lives is to be broken in the way in which life was currently operating. Only then, can we be healed and reborn. Brokenness is part of life.

While out on Date Night with my wife about to go have some drinks with friends, I had this thought come to me about unspoken social agreements. It's this concept that when I say 'this' you do 'that,' but the moment that the person no longer chooses to do the action ('this') the person that repsponded to 'that' gets lost in the chaos. The reality is...they've changed, and change is hard. It puts tension on others, especially those that choose not to rise along with it. Tension is an inevitable part of growth, and yet it can quick become extremely chaotic, especially if those we want to rise with us don't. Sometimes, it's the other way around as well, in which they are growing and you want to stay right where you're at. Either way, change is hard but required in order to grow.

I had a little mini-date with my youngest daughter Ruby that explained the hibachi grill that we went to in which the chef made everything on a big griddle right in front of us. Though the food wasn't the best, it was the experience of spending time with my daughter that I value the most, and so we were able to continue our date right within the podcast as we ordered dessert from McDonald's drive thru. This is one example of the experiences that I choose to place within my life, instead of treating her and the rest of the people that I spend time that I choose to spend time with as commodities.

While dropping my daughters off to school this morning, I saw in front of the school a sign that read, "Warning: Future Leaders at Work and Play" which taught me a crucial realization. I lead tens of thousands of people every week, and my teachers while I was a kid had no fucking clue. The entire game is covered up inside of these schools and neighborhoods, not realizing that the youth and kids we see today will be our world leaders 30 years from today. There's going to be a hold new brand of leaders going to school right now...so who's leading the leaders? Parents need to stop abdicating their roles and see the great gift that it is to lead our future leaders.

Everybody is on point when their patterns are in alignment, but what happens when those patterns get interrupted? In order to grow, we have to destroy the patterns that we're currently leaning on for power in order to get to a newer pattern of power. You can't be elite if you don't know how to operate outside of your patterns.

Today's life lesson was inspired by repetitive practice and comes to you in learning that the vast part about surfing is about learning how to read the waves and know what's coming up. While out surfing, I got Reps, reps, reps, reps, reps. That's how I become good at anything I do, regardless of the situations and conditions. Whether it's in surfing, speaking or my relationship with my wife. The only way we can become great at something that we first initially sucked at is through continual repetition, regardless of the situation.

In today's episode Garrett shares the importance of looking the part in order to feel the part. He noticed that when he put in more effort into his appearance for something like Date Night, he found that he enjoyed the experience even more, especially because his wife Danielle is continually focusing on making sure that she looks as good on the outside as she feels on the inside. When we dress the part of who we are internally, we operate on a higher level.
