    Show notes

    Episode 115

I hope you enjoy this interview I did with Sarah Uthoff who is the host of Trundlebed Tales! Sarah was amazing and although we had some serious audio glitches, we got through it and she will be returning with clearer audio in the near future. Her show sounds better than this so don’t hold that against her! We discuss all things Laura Ingalls Wilder and even discuss how because of Rose Wilder, Laura Ingalls Wilders’ notes are all being preserved beautifully in a Presidential Library!

Please check out Sarah’s amazing work and radio show!

    Episode 113

Many of you may know that Leah Mitchell and I have launched a podcast named, RetroTV which reviews a lot of the nearly forgotten tv shows and the history associated with them. Kim Layer and Chris Hasler have also come on to guest host and we look forward to releasing more of them in the future. It’s really a relaxed vibe and we’re just having fun discussing the shows.

We thought we would bring Michael Landon and Victor French into the mix with a Highway to Heaven review! I Was a Middle-Aged Werewolf is paying an homage to the 1957 Michael Landon film, I Was a Teenage Werewolf where he stars as Tony Rivers.

    I Was a Middle-Aged Werewolf originally aired on October 28, 1987

    Episode 112

It’s Halloween time so in keeping with that dark theme – Today Walnut GroveCast releases one of its’ most requested reviews! I don’t get hundreds of emails every month but I must have gotten at least 30-40 in the past couple months asking why we aren’t reviewing The Plague and Quarantine.

Here ya go! Kim Layer joins me to tackle this dark and extremely timely episode. We try to keep it as light as possible but once the rats show up in cheap cornmeal the episode is really on cruise control! We had such a great time recording this episode and I hope you enjoy listening to it! “Typhoid is unleashed on an unsuspecting Walnut Grove, teaming Charles with Doc Baker and Reverend Alden, work together to the point of exhaustion tending to the community’s sick and dying.” The Plague originally aired on Wednesday February 5, 1975

    Episode 110

Wow! This was a great episode! Suzann Holland joins me to discuss this interesting episode about bi-racial families and racism in 1877. We discuss the origin of the word, Injun, discuss Spotted Eagle and Willie Aames hairstyles, play the Eight is Enough theme song and wonder if The Sioux should have considered writing songs about Charles Ingalls!

” Jeremy Stokes lives in Walnut Grove. His daughter Amelia was rumored to have been kidnapped by some Indians. When her husband is killed she and her son, Spotted Eagle, come home to live with her father. Jeremy says that while in Walnut Grove, Spotted Eagle will be called Joseph Stokes. He doesn’t want to claim the child as his own flesh and blood. His story is that that her daughter was kidnapped and she is just taking care of Spotted Eagle. Amelia tells Caroline that actually she fell in love with Spotted Eagle’s father and that Spotted Eagle is her actual son. “

Kim Layer returns to discuss an episode that will remind each and every one of you that Hiram Baker is a MAN! Doc Baker finds love with the lovely and much younger, Kate Thorvald, Harriet Oleson’s visiting niece. Kate is played by the talented Anne Archer. We loved this episode and hope you enjoy our discussion of Kate’s outfits, Doc’s awkwardness around women and how Charles needs to cool the jets when a new woman comes into town….

Doctor’s Lady first aired on Wednesday, January 22, 1975! ” It’s love at first sight between Doc Baker and a beautiful, though much younger, Kate Thorvald, Harriet Oleson’s visiting niece; but when Kate happily consents to become his wife, Doc’s concerned friends wonder if the May-December romance and the harsh reality of sharing a prairie-doctor’s life will give the genteel, city-bred girl second thoughts and result in heartache for both of them.”

“Feeling lost and abandoned, Mary Ingalls battles anger and self-pity at a school for the blind, far away from the little house by Plum Creek. But soon, Mary finds a source of hope in her new teacher, Adam Kendall, and as the two young people work together they find they have much in common. Meanwhile, back in Walnut Grove, many are forced to consider the real possibility of having to start a new life elsewhere as the town’s economy erodes and work becomes scarce.”
