Ingalls on the Prairie: An Interview with R. Lee Ingalls Feb 17, 2021
    Show notes

    Episode 125

    R. Lee Ingalls is part of the famous family Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote about in her series of beloved books. Lee describes himself as more of a story teller rather than an author. He often says Laura Ingalls was part of the fabric of America as it was populating and moving westward. Her life and experience didn’t differ much from most living at that time, but the remarkable act was she documented the journey. That is what Lee is doing with his new work. He is continuing the legacy that Laura began by telling the life experiences of his parents.

    Episode 124

Kim Layer joins me to review one of the most difficult and strange episodes in the Little House in the Prairie Universe!

    Monkey love!

    Monkey Farts!

    Monkey Drunk!

This amazingly strange episode was a blast to review – I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

For the Love of Blanche originally aired on Monday, March 7, 1983

“On his way back from Sleepy Eye, Isaiah Edwards meets up with a dying old man, whose last request is for Isaiah to take care of his 3-year-old Blanche. It isn’t until later that Isaiah realizes that this “little girl” is actually an orangutan! Most of Walnut Grove is happy to welcome Blanche into their community, but the trouble starts when Harriet Oleson gets involved.”

The man who is bringing Little House on the Prairie to a new generation on TikTok joins me to unravel Family Quarrel! Raven Stone is an extremely talented author, musician and content creator and I was so pleased when he accepted my invitation to come onto WGC for an episode. If you haven’t checked Raven’s TikTok channel you’re missing out but the links are below!

Family Quarrel originally aired on January 15, 1975

“Divorce looms when Nels and his dog storm away from Harriet and the mercantile after the Olesons quarrel over the price of eggs. But the situation only gets more muddled when the townsfolk try to help them reconcile, prompting Harriet to pack her bags and causing some to wonder, a little wistfully, if Walnut Grove wouldn’t be more peaceful if the volatile woman left town for good.”

    Episode 121

Before I get into this episode description I want to just say thank you to everyone who sent me get well messages, phonecalls, emails and letters! I am truly blessed to have so many people thinking of my family and me as we dealt with having covid-19! The good news is we are all doing great and every day we are feeling more and more ‘normal’! I am fortunate that the worst part for me was the loss of my smell and taste which comes and goes but I am convinced all will be back to normal very soon. My ears have a clogged up feeling and my hearing is a little muffled (so editing has been a struggle), I am also dealing with a lingering cough which makes recording a little tough. It’s all normal so that’s still the good news….the BAD news is that I haven’t released an episode in awhile so let’s GO!

*As I stated, my hearing is screwy at the moment so please keep that in mind with the audio mix.

Chantelle Dubois Nishiyama returns to discuss this classic episode! Thank you so much Chantelle!

“Mrs. Oleson invites a charismatic preacher, the Rev. James Danforth, to preach in Walnut Grove. He immediately woos parishioners away from Rev. Alden’s congregation with his fiery sermons and “faith healing.” But nobody is aware he is a charlatan, and it will soon have tragic results.” The Faith Healer first aired on November 19, 1979!

ps – Wagon Talks is still 100% happening – I just need to heal a little more before resuming with recording! I am so happy with the level of interest to come on and discuss Little House! There is another soon to be released piece of information that I am sure you will be interested in if you love LHOTP!

Stay well and there is a lot more to come!

    – Mark

    The Craftsman Dec 08, 2020
    Show notes

    Episode 117

Kim Layer joins me for a very special Hanukkah Episode! We discuss all types of crazy things in this out of place, but somehow perfect episode. Albert takes on an apprenticeship with the local carpenter/coffin builder/Jewish man and is then called a Jew-Lover, ouch! I hope all of you enjoy this episode as Kim and Mark dive into the anger and confusion that can manifest from people who are different.

The Craftsman first aired on Monday, January 8, 1979! “Albert becomes an apprentice for a craftsman who is Jewish. His classmates accuse him of being a Jew-lover and Laura is embarrassed because they accuse her when she tells them to quit picking on Albert. Albert learns to take pride in his work and when Mr. Isaac Singerman dies at the end of the summer, Albert follows his way of planting an acorn to grow a tree to repay the earth for the one he used in his carpentry.”

    Episode 116

Kelly Mielke returns to discuss this dark and poignant episode about regret and giving up! I think I can speak for everyone here that we sure are happy that Doc Baker stuck around and even though things can be rough and overwhelming, it is important to never forget how a single decision can negatively effect others!

“Holding himself responsible for a farmer friend’s death and unable to face his now seven-months pregnant widow, a disheartened Doc Baker leaves his Walnut Grove practice in the hands of a self-absorbed Philadelphia physician and decides to raise corn.”

We had a fun time discussing this episode and I truly hope you all enjoy it as well!

To Run and Hide originally aired on Michael Landon’s 41st birthday which is also Halloween, October 31, 1977!
