    Voices of Your Village

Let’s get real, this whole raising tiny humans thing is wild. That’s why I created a place where parents, caregivers, teachers, and experts come together to create the modern parenting village. We can support one another on this crazy journey so it doesn’t have to be this hard.

239 - How to keep kids at the center of divorce - not in the middle of it with Sarah Lyman Jul 06, 2023
    Show notes

Today I get to dive into a topic we get so many requests about. I got to hang out with Sarah Lyman the founder of Purpl Couch, and we got to chat about what it looks like to keep kids at the center of divorce, not in the middle of it. And we really got to chat about how do you really do this, what does it look like logistically? And there's so many things to figure out in the process of divorce, even outside of the adult feelings, just the logistics of it all and how do we do this while supporting children's emotional development? Sarah created Purpl Couch, and it is an incredible resource for folks navigating divorce. She has a flagship course there called Fresh Start, and if you are enjoying this conversation today, this is something that you want more on. We also have a section in my book, Tiny Humans, Big Emotions, that dives into this. We chat about some different ways to support kids when you're navigating divorce and how to help them with the emotion process processing work. You can head over to seedandsew.org/book to snag Tiny Humans, Big Emotions today. All right, folks, let's dive in

238 - How to have healthy conversations about sex with Vanessa & Xander Marin Jun 29, 2023
    Show notes

Buckle up today, y'all, because we are diving in to the topic of sex. We get to hang out with Vanessa and Xander Marin. They are over at Vanessa and Xander on Instagram. They wrote an incredible book called, Sex Talks. And what I love about them is that their approach to sex is really about an approach to communication. How are we showing up in relationship with one another? How are we having conversations, especially ones that might feel awkward or new for us, like, if we didn't grow up having these conversations or witnessing them, what does it look like to have them? It is truly the sex education I wish existed for all humans. What does this look like postpartum? What does it look like to prioritize our relationships and really pour into one another? Or connect when our bandwidth is low, when we're pulled in 7000 directions, or you've had a baby on your body all day? I love how practical and applicable their tips in the book and then in this podcast episode are and I cant wait to share them with you.

237 - Why parents need to matter more than peers with Gordon Neufeld Jun 23, 2023
    Show notes

Welcome back to Voices of Your Village. Today we get to chat about the difference between the peer relationship and the parent or caregiver relationship. We get a lot of questions about this and really what comes up there's and really looking at how do we separate that relationship? What's different about the relationship with peers or other humans in the world than our parents or caregivers? How does it show up? How does it affect us as humans, and how does that matter? What is our job as parents or caregivers in showing up for our tiny humans? This was such a rich discussion that I got to have with Gordon Neufeld, and I am excited to share it with you. Screenshot you tuning into this episode and tag me, and let's have a conversation. What jumps out at you? What do you want to dive further into? I love continuing the conversation over on the gram.

235 - How to find balance as a working mom with Paula Faris Jun 08, 2023
    Show notes

Today I got to hang out with Paula Faris. She is the author of You Don't Have to Carry It All. We know that historically, working mothers have been forced and expected to carry it all. And Paula dives into all this in her book. Where do we go from here? What do we do next? How do we shift this conversation and these narratives and frankly these practices? I think this is just such a needed topic to dive into the fact that we don't have to carry it all. We so often are. And this message is one that I think we need to not only have out into the world, but to continue the conversation going around. I loved hanging out with Paula, and I'm so excited to share this episode with you. Head out and snag her book.

233 - Navigating Adult Anxiety with Dr. Ellen Vora May 25, 2023
    Show notes

I got to hang out with Dr. Ellen Vora. Oh gosh, I love hanging out with Ellen. She is incredible. She wrote a beautiful book about adult anxiety. And let me tell you y'all like we know anxiety is on the rise and we need concrete tools for what to do with it. And when I first started reading her book, The Anatomy of Anxiety, it was one of those things where immediately I was like, yes, yes. Yep, so much yes to this. As a human who once lived with a lot of anxiety and has learned a lot of tools that I get to employ in the day to day to live with less anxiety, I felt like I just felt so seen in this book and it felt really validating. And Ellen and I get to really get into the down and dirty of what is anxiety and what she refers to as these two different components of anxiety, this false anxiety and true anxiety. And what do we do about both of them? How do we manage them? What does it look like to navigate them and how do we create systems that support our lifestyle? Ellen is one of those humans. I feel like I could hang out with forever and we just got to scratch the surface. So please snag her book, The Anatomy of Anxiety to dive deeper into this work. You wont regret it, I promise.

231 - Compassionate discipline with Wendy Snyder May 11, 2023
    Show notes

Today we get to dive in with Wendy Snyder of Fresh Start Families. I got to chat with Wendy all about compassionate discipline. I don't know about you, but I feel like this is one of those topics that is just a hot button one. Like, what is discipline? What's the difference between discipline and punishment? How do we navigate boundaries and discipline with compassion? How do we really connect with the human in front of us and be mindful of our triggers and aware of our like, especially for me, like, defiance is such a trigger. And so when it comes time for discipline, when there's been defiance, I can feel it all in my body. Like, my chest is tight. I can feel the rage building, and I'm triggered, right? And so it was so fun to get to dive in with Wendy on what this looks like, to truly be compassionate in this process. I'm so excited for you all to get to dive in to this one with me. My first book, Tiny Humans Big Emotions, is available for Preorder. Right now.
