    Show notes

Today I got to hang out with someone I've adored for a while from afar, from her podcast, Dr. Aliza Pressman. She's a developmental psychologist with nearly two decades of experience working with families and the healthcare providers who care for them. Aliza is an assistant clinical professor in the Division of Behavioral Health Department of Pediatrics in the ICAN School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital, where she is co -founding director of the Mount Sinai Parenting Center. Aliza is also the host of the award -winning podcast, Raising Good Humans. It is such a great podcast. I love it. I've been a long -time listener. She holds a BA from Dartmouth College, an MA in Risk Resilience and Prevention from the Department of Human Development at Teachers College, and her PhD is in Developmental Psychology from Columbia University Graduate School of Arts and Science. Aliza also holds a teaching certificate in mindfulness and meditation from the Greater Good Science Center at the University of California, Berkeley. Aliza is the mother of two teenagers and her first book is out right now. Y 'all, it is so good and I mean this. It is The 5 Principles of Parenting. And what I love so much about this, it lets you off the hook for like really what doesn't matter, and helps you focus in on what does, and it spans age ranges from like infancy to teenagers. There's different chapters and sections for you to dive into, so you can kind of use it as like a reference text. So go snag The 5 Principles of Parenting and let's dive in.

    Show notes

Today on Voices of Your Village I got to hang out with Dr. Aditi Nerurkar and y 'all, this is a conversation I feel like so many of us have been needing. Her book The Five Resets helps us dive into what it looks like to reduce stress and overwhelm so that we can show up as our best self. I love her work because it's so actionable and practical. I think it's especially key to look at how to reduce overwhelm in a time of chronic stress, where when we look at the past few years, we've had a lot of chronic stressors. And diving into some real tips and strategies around what this looks like and why it's important, and that not all stress is bad stress, I think is a game changer for us being able to live in healthy bodies, both physically and emotionally. I'm so excited to be going into the new year with this in mind and to have Dr. Aditi's book, The Five Resets, in my hand. All right, let's dive in.

I got to hang out with Libby Ward, Diary of an Honest Mom is her handle, if you're not following. And we got to chat today about so many things related to like self -esteem and motherhood, and one of my favorite things we got to dive into was this idea of like shame versus accountability, and breaking down like this concept of guilt. Show notes

You're listening to Voices of Your Village. This is episode 264. I got to hang out with Pam Luk to chat about building allyship for plus size kids. We know that the world that we are living in today is so different from the world that so many of us grew up in, and we all are coming to the table with our childhood experiences and our cultural experiences, and that includes our body experiences, what we've experienced in our bodies, what we've heard about our bodies, what we've been exposed to in media and all around us. And we get to have a real, open, honest conversation about what it looks like to build allyship for plus size kids. I'm so jazzed about the work that Pam is doing, and I'm truly excited to see the world that our kids get to grow up in now. All right, folks, let's dive in.

263- Sensory Regulation for High Energy Kids with Julia Ieslin Dec 21, 2023
    Show notes

You're listening to Voices of Your Village. This is episode 263. Y 'all know I love hanging out with an OT, an Occupational Therapist, and today I got to hang out with OT Julia Ieslin to talk about high energy kiddos. We are diving into what it looks like to support those sensory seekers who have a lot of energy, and trying to meet those needs-- and what does that look like? How do we do that as an adult? How do we do that in families of multiples or in a classroom setting when you can't give one-to-one attention? It can be exhausting. I loved getting to team up with Julia for this episode and I'm so jazzed to get to bring it to you. I don't think this is a conversation that is happening and I think it's one that needs to be more prevalent. So, without further ado, let's dive in.

262- How to Navigate Grief and Loss with Ashley LeMieux Dec 14, 2023
    Show notes

Welcome to Voices of Your Village. This is episode 262. I got to hang out with Ashley Lemieux and chat about grief and loss and what it looks like to navigate those. I think this is an especially tricky time of year where a lot of grief can come up and we can almost be reliving loss. I have followed Ashley's journey for a long time, and have found bits and pieces of myself in her journey--sometimes mirroring the same timelines. And I want to let you know that there are a bunch of things in here as we're talking about grief and loss that might be triggering or hard to hear. And if you are not in a place for that, hit pause. Come on back when you're ready and know that this episode will be here for you, with you, when you want some tools to navigate that grief and loss. All right, folks. Let's dive in.

261- Transforming our Attachment Patterns with Eli Harwood Dec 07, 2023
    Show notes

You're listening to Voices of Your Village and boy, do I have a banger of an episode for you today. I got to hang out with Eli Harwood. She is such a dreamboat. Her Instagram handle, @attachmentnerd, if you're not following already, is a gem. And she wrote the book, Securely Attached. Y 'all, attachment is at the root of how we show up in this world. There is a whole section in Tiny Humans, Big Emotions about it because we can't talk about how we interact with kids without talking about attachment, and Eli has an entire book on it and my favorite part of this is that it's a workbook. So she guides you through figuring out what your attachment style is and what's coming up for you, and how your childhood is showing up in your present day, and where do you go from there, what do you do with that. This episode was so fun to do and I'm so excited to put it out into the world. Press pause and go snag Securely Attached right now and then come on back and dive in.
