EP081: How to Go From a Leadership Soloist to a Conductor to Transform Your Team, Business, and Life Apr 16, 2019
    Show notes

Back when I was a personal trainer working with clients one-on-one I only had to rely on myself to get the job done. As long as I got results for my clients and hustled, everything worked out fine... until it didn't. As my business grew, I started to collaborate with other trainers and build a team. It was a natural progression, but it forced me to take a look at how I was running things. As I grew, it became increasingly evident that the behaviors I had built up weren't cutting it anymore – slowing as opposed to facilitating my growth. Essentially I was a soloist trying to play in a unified band – which never works when you’re working to build a championship team. With self-reflection I realized what I had to do. I needed to transform myself from the soloist, who's shoes I had grown accustom to wearing, to a conductor focused on strengthen the team instead of the individual so that we could work together in unison. Today I share five lessons I learned a result of that transformation. These lessons will teach you how to take yourself from a soloist to a conductor, when it comes to leadership, and will enable you to strengthen your team, business, relationships, and family. Don’t learn through pain and mistakes. Listen to these lessons and save yourself the trouble of going through them. Let's go. IN THIS EPISODE YOU’LL LEARN: 1. Why I threw myself into learning obsessively about leadership and team building by hiring mentors and going through courses 2. Why taking things slow will allow both you and your team to go further in the long-run 3. What you have to give up and commit to if you want to go from a soloist to a conductor 4. The difference between a hiker and a leader 5. My Tough Mudder experience and the mistake I made that you need to avoid if you want your business to be successful 6. What the “leadership dance” is and how to implement it in your business to help you do/be your best 7. The KEY to shifting your mindset that will ultimately become the catalyst to change your team(s) for the better 8. How to know if your team is 'completing against' or 'working with' one another 9. The reason your team is not working together, and the number one road block that stops teams from succeeding LINKS AND RESOURCES: Vigor Ground Fitness and Performance: http://www.vigorgroundfitness.com/ Vigor Life Podcast (iTunes): https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/vigor-life-podcast/id1180256583?mt=2 Luka Hocevar YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQ29YcBh-g6onRujX3wD_XA?view_as=subscriber Luka Hocevar Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lukahocevar/

http://www.VigorGroundFitness.com I grew up watching my oldest brother play rugby – something he still does to this day. The current captain of the Slovenian National Rugby Team, he has become someone the sport respects. Growing up I would watch rugby with him; which led to an infatuation with the New Zealand All-Blacks. There was something different about them. And I loved the Haka they did before their games... even though I didn’t know what it meant at the time. Fast forward two decades to my current life. As a business owner, a friend recommended a book to me called “Legacy”. The book covers 15 leadership lessons from the All Blacks. In particular, how they overcame struggle and a failing team to build a culture of champions that leave a legacy. I devoured the book. Going onto a mission to learn everything about how the team has become the most successful team sports franchise in history. In today’s podcast I wanted to share 5 lessons of leadership from my studies. I have implemented these lessons in my own life – using them to help me change things around so that they serve my vision for my business and life. I am confident if you apply them to yours, they will help you turn things around in yours too. Let's go. IN THIS EPISODE YOU’LL LEARN: 1. The topic I don't think is taken seriously enough when it comes to business – despite being crucial to growth and longevity 2. How I found these leadership and success principles and why they resonated with me so much 3. A key value that highlights a success secret that most business owners forget 4. Why you should never be too big to do the little things 5. The analogy of the the spearhead and how it’s a belief system you must live by if you’re going to succeed as a team 6. The one philosophy that will separate you from your competition—for the rest of your life—and allow you to overcome any adversity 7. The "issue" that kicked off Bo Jackson's career—that happens to be the same problem plaguing many entrepreneurs—and how he made the shift 8. The lesson you must learn to win in business and life 9. The one principle that is key to building a great team and overdelivering on results to clients – that will become the catalyst to you building an incredible network 10. EP077: 17 Lessons To Invigorate Your Life Feb 19, 2019
    Show notes

3 or 4 years ago I wrote a blog post with 99 lessons from life in it. At the time, I didn’t think much about. So when it went viral I was surprised by how many people enjoyed and shared it. Last year I decided to give my original post an upgrade. I ended up rewriting a lot of it – pulling from my notes in my journals, my voice recordings, as well as insights on things I had changed since then. What started as a blog—that I was going to write over the course of a week —ended up taking almost a year to complete. I am really proud of the completed project and am currently packaging it as an ebook – which I will be giving away for free. My hope is that you can take the lessons I have learned over the course of my life and apply them to your own—and benefit from them as much as I have. Since there was no way to cover all the lessons in the podcast, I chose 17 powerful lessons and stories to share with you. Let's go. IN THIS EPISODE YOU’LL LEARN: How I approach each day and the lesson that you need to live by if you want to continue to grow and improveThe most important thing to understand if you want to win in life – no matter how bad a card you have been dealt or the obstacles you are facingThe one word that you need to understand that will help your happiness thriveMy favorite documentary and why it fires me up to be the best in the world at my craft every time that I watch itA painful question that will determine whether you need to changeThe 3 C’s that drive our intrinsic motivation and what helped me get out of some of the darkest places in my lifeThe formula for achieving anything you want in lifeThe 7 lessons of the Japanese forrest and why they are such an important part of my belief systemThe 5-steps to changing your subconscious behaviorsThe number one thing we should buy and useHow to use your favorite self-sabotage stories to unlock your growth LINKS AND RESOURCES: Vigor Ground Fitness and Performance: www.VigorGroundFitness.com Vigor Life Podcast (iTunes): https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/vigor-life-podcast/id1180256583?mt=2 Luka Hocevar YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQ29YcBh-g6onRujX3wD_XA?view_as=subscriber Luka Hocevar Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lukahocevar/ Jiro Dreams of Sushi Documentary: http://www.magpictures.com/jirodreamsofsushi/ Book: Tribe - On Homecoming and Belonging (Sebastian Junger): https://www.amazon.com/Tribe-Homecoming-Belonging-Sebastian-Junger/dp/1455566381/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1550480643&sr=8-1&keywords=sebastian+junger Book: Social - Why Our Brains Are Wired To Connect (Matthew Lieberman): https://www.amazon.com/Social-Why-Brains-Wired-Connect/dp/0307889106/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1550480737&sr=1-3&keywords=social Thanks so much for joining me this week. EP076: What We’d Tell Our Younger Selves As A Coach and Fitness Business Owner If We Could Go Back In Time Feb 08, 2019
    Show notes

In this episode of the podcast I sit down with Vigor Coach, Theo Bowie to discuss the lessons we have learned and would tell our younger selves. We dig into things from two perspectives: What we would tell ourselves if we were a young coach just coming into the industry who is looking to learn and grow personally and professionally. What we would tell ourselves if we were a fitness business owner starting with nothing but a vision who is looking to build something that will positively affect people locally and/or worldwide. As a wise man once said, “Life’s too short to learn from just your own mistakes.” It's important to learn from the mistakes and lessons of people that have been there, done that, and are still doing it. Then apply those lessons to your own life so that you don't repeat them in your own life. Don’t get it twisted – you will still have to put in a LOT of work and face struggle, obstacles, and failure(s). But this is the true definition of learning from mentors. If you are a coach, business owner, entrepreneur or a part of a team, you will benefit greatly from the golden nuggets in this episode. Let's go. IN THIS EPISODE YOU’LL LEARN: How we scare interns to see if they’re really committed to interning at Vigor Ground Fitness and PerformanceOne of the most important things Theo would change as a young coach to excel faster while also creating less stressThe difference between time management and work when you’re younger and when you’ve been at it for a whileThe exercise that will make it very clear on how much time you’re wasting; and how much more time you could have for yourself, your family, and meaningful work just by doing itThe opportunities and perils of social media and how to navigate it to get what you want without falling into “the trap"Money management 101 and what almost no one does that could build their financial health and wealthThe key thing you must avoid if you’re going to become a business owner of any kindWhat truly makes you happy in life and how to create work and life masteryAdvice for young coaches to excel, create opportunities for themselves and build a career on integrity and connections And so much more. We go deep in this episode.
