GUEST SERIES // H+K on The Fresh Start Family Show - Support Sibling Conflict with Integrity Nov 09, 2020
    Show notes

Before launching this next season, we wanted to highlight a handful of favorite podcasts we’ve been guests on recently. We speak with some amazing folks about Upbringing, our mission and approach in practicing powers beyond control when it comes to daily discipline with our kids!

The Fresh Start Family show is hosted by husband and wife team Terry and Wendy Snyder, parenting educators and coaches. A Positive Parenting community, Fresh Start Family tackles a range of topics that bring reality, hope, and a path to more peace in the home and world.

We loved chatting with Wendy about all things SIBLING CONFLICT! We flip a few limiting beliefs we hold about sibling challenges (and the concept of mistakes in general) and discuss how choosing to approach conflict, our role and our goal with fresh eyes can help kids learn and grow adaptively. We also unpack and walk through some specific ways we can avoid creating cycles of victim and aggressor as we slowly but surely build kids’ awareness of themselves and one another through a challenge. Fun stuff!

We hope you enjoy our conversation with Fresh Start Family as much as we did!

The Balanced Parent is a top-rated podcast hosted by Dr. Laura Froyen that offers practical tools and mindset shifts to help parents get clear on the goals and values that will help them show up with open-hearted authenticity and balance. We loved chatting with Laura about the value of kids’ daily resistance and how we can examine and reapproach our power as parents to best support it.

We discuss the power of connection, especially in the hardest moments with our kids. We explore the position we hold as the authority figure at home, and how we can show up more mindfully and democratically with our kids to teach them how power can be used responsibly. We also unpack and walk through some specific questions listeners sent in-- a parents’ struggle to accept her kids’ current skills, as well as a child whose meltdowns are really challenging for their parent to support.

    Show notes

Before launching this next season, we wanted to highlight a handful of favorite podcasts we’ve been guests on recently. We speak with some amazing folks about Upbringing, our mission and approach in practicing powers beyond control when it comes to daily discipline with our kids!

This week, we’re sharing our interview with Jen Lumanlan on the Your Parenting Mojo Podcast. We discuss how we grew to identify as feminists through our parenthood and the experiences we had that helped us reckon with the power + privilege we held over our toddlers. We also unpack and walk through some specific ways we can take back our parenting practices from our cultural conditioning-- from exhaustive tooth brushing resistance to fears of uncomfortable conversations-- challenging moments that give us the opportunity to align our values as people with our practices as parents. Fun stuff!

It was a dream come true to chat with Jen about our unconscious hypocrisy as progressive parents, and how finding alignment can prevent us from undermining the very skills and values we hope to promote in our kids! Your Parenting Mojo is a top-rated podcast and parenting community led by Jen Lumanlan, (M.S., M.Ed.). Jen was the first parenting resource we found as new mothers that examined the scientific research related to child development through the lens of respectful parenting.
