    I’m Lance Essihos, and I sit down with athletes, bestselling authors, doctors, entrepreneurs, spiritual teachers, and everyday warriors to have real conversations about adversity — the kind that strips away the surface and forces us to face who we really are.

    84. Robert Stone - Financial Literacy and Independence Aug 14, 2019
    Show notes

    In this episode, Lance and Robert Stone talks about his journey from boxing to founding a tax preparation service company.

    Robert grew up in a broken family. He was raised by a single mom, his grandparents and was the oldest of six siblings. His childhood was dominated by the love of sports. Robert dropped out of school in grade 11 to pursue a career in trading and real estate. He took up the sport of boxing at age 30 and almost qualified for the Canadian Olympic Trials in 1996; winning a bronze medal. A few years later he qualified for the 2000 Olympics; winning a silver medal.

    In 1996, he suffered a neck injury from jumping off a train. Because of this incident, he was forced to take a break from boxing and took a part time bookkeeping job. Here’s when he transitioned from boxing to a career in finance. In 2012 he partnered with a company and grew the business to 42 offices. Along the way, he suffered depression and his health deteriorated. He took three years off to recover and went on to learn more about his craft, acquired relevant licenses and relaunched his business: Mr. Taxes.ca in 2019.

    Today, Robert is a Canadian authority on personal tax. He was the keynote presenter for CCH’s 2011 and 2012 annual Tax Roundup, part of Intuit.ca’s 2014 annual round table, Founder and CEO of MrTaxes.ca’s 42 locations and founding member of www.CTPCanada.ca; the HRSDC accredited federal tax certification course.

    Robert tells listeners: “Don’t listen to naysayers. Don’t let anybody tell you that you cannot make it.”

    Dorothy is a digital marketer and podcaster who aims to show people that creating massive financial success and making a massive impact can go hand in hand. Dorothy abandoned her planned career as an accountant to work for a start-up after college. After helping to scale that business from 0 to $6M in annual revenue in its first 3 years, Dorothy founded Needle's Eye Media - a full-service Facebook & Instagram advertising agency. Leveraging Dorothy's innate talent for data-wrangling, Needle's Eye Media has become the premier media buying partner for prominent personal brands and other digital product businesses seeking improved customer acquisition with paid traffic.

    In this episode, Lance and Tom Sylvester talk about the link between our relationships and connections with other people with our own purpose and journey.

    Tom worked three jobs to get himself through high school and into college. He has two degrees: an undergrad in computer science and a Masters degree in business management. Nine months before getting married, he set a goal of retiring by age 35. At first, his wife struggled with the validity of his entrepreneurial goals. But after some early successes and goal alignment, she joined forces with him in pursuing the goal together.

    Over the past 15 years, Tom has helped with thousands of business leaders and their teams create more success - from startups to Fortune 500 companies. During this time, Tom has honed and refined his philosophies, models, and strategies for growing entrepreneurial businesses.

    Céleste has been fascinated by the law since an early age, and for good reason: her maternal grandfather founded his own legal empire, practicing under the name of Reumert & Partnere, later known as Kroman Reumert. Later in her life, after failing to find the same sense of zeal and duty in other career paths, she found herself again drawn to the law, completing a Master’s Degree in Law (LLM) at the University of Copenhagen. After more than three years with the Artists Legal Aid in Copenhagen, she felt compelled to start GRAND IPR®️.

    Today, her vision, commitment, and expertise combine to help small-to-medium sized businesses feel confident trademarking their brand and content, empowering them with peace of mind and true protection. Céleste helps ambitious creatives & innovators protect their Intellectual Property.     80. Zachary Babcock - Powering Through Adversity Aug 05, 2019

    In this episode, Lance and Zachary Babcock talk about how Zachary went from being an underdog and ex-convict to a successful online entrepreneur and podcast host.

    Zachary is a former drug addict and spent over five years of his life in prison. He grew up in Ferguson, Missouri while being raised by his mother. After missing the birth of his twin sons when he was in prison, he made the decision to completely transform his life so that he could be a responsible father. Upon returning home after serving eight months in prison, he was faced with many challenges. The odds of his success were stacked against him but he still took matters into his own hands when he couldn’t find a job. It was time to begin his journey as an underdog entrepreneur. Entrepreneurship provided him an income when no employer would, and in the process, changed his life. He found his true calling in empowering underdogs when he wrote and published his first book, Prison To Promised Land. He moved on from network marketing and found his true passion through helping underdogs attract their ideal, high paying customers so they can enjoy growth and success without the overwhelm, stress, and frustration of trial and error

    Brooks spent the majority of his career in the hospitality industry until he woke up one day and realized that he was 25 pounds overweight, working his life away, and was deeply unhappy with his circumstances. That's when he got into holistic wellness and realized that his success in life began with what he puts into his body, or equally as important, what he didn't put into his body.

    His journey began when he was hospitalized and could have lost his life. He knew that there had to be a better way to improve men's health so he chose to dedicate his life to serving others for this cause. He became a strong entrepreneurial leader, helped with the creation of restaurants, worked in marketing consultation, authored 6 books, created a nutraceutical entity, and a bike taxi company.

    In this episode, Lance and Melonie DeRose discuss her struggles and triumphs from being a Corporate Securities Lawyer to an Entrepreneur of a Consumer Packaged Food.

    Melonie grew up in Lubbock, Texas, left for college to study at UCLA, and went to the University of Texas School of Law. When she finally worked for an international law firm, she found out that her passion for her work was dwindling due to workload and stress. She questioned her priorities when she was pregnant with her second daughter and she slipped and fell in the parking lot. Melonie was faced with the thoughts of being a bad lawyer, a bad mom, and a bad spouse on a day to day basis so she decided to go and take a chance, step out and launch a health and fitness company for women. Her entrepreneurial journey started with an in-home DVD program, then gravitated towards producing nutrition plans.

    Today, Melonie is the Founder and Owner of Empact LLC that produces Empact Bars. Her company takes the guesswork out of healthy, tasty snacking. The mission is simple: be a catalyst for women to live fit and healthy lifestyles by providing superior snack options.
